It depends, some people seem to lose lots quite easily so more than 2lb/week might just fall off, but if you aim for 2lb/week to begin with you should certainly manage 2.5 stone by mid July. If you couple that with plenty exercise - including weights, then you should see you're more toned too, not just the weight loss, so…

Time of the month can be a kicker too as your hormones play funny beggars with your digestive system (I did check you were female before I posted this :)) I found the pill initially made my symptoms worse, so spent several years avoiding it, then for other health reasons decided I had no choice but to go back on it and…

Fibre is a funny one. My M-I-L adds Bran to so much of what she cooks, because she needs it to control her symptoms and it works beautifully for her. I on the other hand eat white everything as I can't touch high fibre stuff, it actually makes my symptoms worse. It is a fine balance to work out.

It sounds like you've never tried a proper elimination diet to see what foods are triggers. To be honest, there's so many variations in how people experience IBS you could get 100 different answers to this. My own symptoms tend to mutate to some extent every few years. I've found being vegetarian, but eliminating most…

I find no difference at all on the pill. My weight changes very little, but off the pill it didn't change much either. Not much help at all really!

I just track cals. Couldn't care less about the macros because I'm comfortable that my diet is sufficiently healthy and I have no issues with carbs v. protein etc. I know I was putting on weight because I was beginning to eat larger portions, not because I was eating the wrong things, so they're of little significance to…

I'd agree with this. For example - I don't know what you're using for the 'coffee, 1 serving' but that seems too low - unless you take it black with no sugar? I drink it with 1 sugar & skimmed milk and that makes it 40 cals. I also saw Banana 50g - are you weighing portions, or did you just judge it to be that - 'cos…

Is a crockpot the same as a slow cooker? Asking from the UK here. And if I have neither, what temperature would you put the oven on at to achieve the same? I cook lots of stews n' stuff in the oven rather than on the hob but never more than 4-6 hours, so I dunno if my oven would go low enough to replicate these recipes.

If you've hurt yourself - pulled a muscle etc. Stop. Rest it. But if you're talking post workout soreness, then I'd say a combination of resting a bit, but still working out - I find after Boxercise I ache the next day, but swimming loosens everything off again. Runners who've done a race are advised to have a slow gentle…

My snacks are either Bananas - about 100 cals in a medium one, or pretty much any dried fruit too, I find them filling even in small quantities (58 cals in a 20g portion of raisins or sultanas) or Cheese - hard cheddar by itself if I'm low on left over carbs, but on crackers/oatcakes with a smear of butter (UK spread type,…

If you want people to check out your diary you'll need to make it public. I'd second hunter 1025 though, 2 pounds in your 2nd week isn't bad. What have you got your loss set at?

I try to be vegetarian, but the family are confirmed carnivores, so I tend to find things I'd like and then tweak it to find a way to add meat for them. Last night I made a bean stew & stir fried beef for them to add to it. Most of them didn't like the bean stew, but I knew that was likely before I gave them it, so I just…

There's lots of stuff on here about trusting neither & using a heart rate monitor. 100 calories per mile is average, but dependent on weight, it'll potentially be less, I'd say MFP was exaggerating, but then again, gradient will change things too. I find if I do slower (so lower heart rate & in fat burning zone), with a…

I'm the same, struggling to reduce carbs and up fat/protein. I've resorted to eating cheese by itself if I have any deficit after dinner in a bid to bring them up.

If all you're interested in is Cals burned, then the elleptical will do a better job than the treadmill - based on what you can achieve right now. But, if you persevere with the running (and walk/run is a programme tons of people follow and works) you will get faster and be able to go further in the same time. This will…

Has he managed to explain to you why he doesn't like it? And why are you so averse to cooking something you can both eat - that you obviously enjoy making for yourself? If he won't eat what you make, and you won't eat what he makes then the only option is to sort out why you both feel the way you do, so you can at least…

I'm about the same size as you and wanted to lose a similar weight. I've found it really slow to start, despite following the cals given and accepting them as realistic. It took me about 3 weeks to even see any loss begin - I consoled myself that I was building muscle as I stopped running as much and replaced runs with…

I'm glad you're both home safe. Today may be unpleasant, but it'll get better.

There are ways to ask questions, that are more tactful than you are managing though. Your posts are coming across judgemental and accusatory and now you've pretty much said he's trying to escape from her in this latest. If you have been in this situation, or something similar surely you can empathise to the point where you…

It's probably because you've hit 1200 before your exercise. So strictly speaking you aren't undereating in the same was as if you'd only eaten 1100 and done no exercise. I think.

Another tip that helps with the transition to outside is to use the treadmill on an incline so there's a bit more resistance, it helps to simulate road running a little more than otherwise happens. Lots of people find they can run well on the treadmill and try to achieve the same speed outside - slow it down outside so you…

Absolutely agree about the body composition aspect. I haven't lost a pound since Christmas but I have gone down a pant size. Of course, some of that can be attributed to the pounds I lost before Christmas but there is no way I could have squeezed into these pants back then so, obviously, my body composition is changing in…

How about Tuna pasta bake? This is the UK version, so hope the quantities etc. make sense... This serves a family of 6 with leftovers - it keeps well in the fridge for a day or two, tastes not bad cold too and freezes and re-heats reasonably, so you could split into smaller quantities and freeze a couple of batches. The…

Sounds like you're running too fast when you do run. And that'll only do one thing - kill you after the same length of time every time. Slow it down, big time, to a jog where you can chat to someone, or sing along to the music (in a breathy & not very tuneful fashion). If you get too tired, walk for a couple of minutes to…

I wear daily disposables. I've had contacts for about 20 years and wouldn't change back to glasses. I wear my glasses in the evenings to give my eyes a rest before bed 'cos by then they're getting a bit dry. I like the dailies as they're fresh and clean every morning & I was way too lazy to clean my previous ones properly,…

I agree with the fuzz, everyone loses fat in different places so it's hard to give you a single answer. I'm finding that a similar regime is toning up my upper abdomen fairly quickly, but having little or no impact on my lower abdomen. In my case, that may have a lot to do with 2 c-sections, but I find abdominal exercises…

I think they can be helpful for the reassurance if you've been doing the research and reading yourself. Like all humans they can be flawed, or brilliant. I saw one to help identify food intolerances, and I'd already done most of the work so most of what she said was useless, but it gave me the confidence that I was getting…

You're right, I wouldn't humiliate the 2 of them by trying to talk to him. He'd never forgive my son, and my son wouldn't forgive me! I think I agree too about leaving him too it, but I get the impression that he doesn't feel he's getting anywhere, and it would be nice if he could find a way to feel supported, or at least…

Hi Charm, I agree completely - those are good ideas, unfortunately it's my son's friend, not my son. They go to the gym together and are at school together, so I'm hoping that I can feed information through my son to his friend and help him that way. But I have no idea what he's eating - I think from what I hear he's…
