We recently started a weight loss challenge at work. We're tracking it not by pounds lost but by how much percentage of body weight we lose from the start. That way, heavier people do not have an unfair advantage over those who are closer to ideal weights since it's tougher to lose there. If you HAVE to go competitive in…

I wasn't able to drink any form of protein shake without getting violently ill. I found out that most protein powders are manufactured in plants where high allergens are also manufactured. I have a shellfish allergy, so this is the only possible culprit I could find as I could tolerate pure whey like Isopure. Our bodies,…

Soooo.... I'm not doing so well this month so far. My goals for this month: 1. Go up a weight bar in my Muscle Max class. This has not worked out well for me because of personal issues (my car broke down and my gym is not within walking distance). Can't move up if you can't attend. :disappointed: 2. Figure out…

@cabennett99 is right - walk when you feel up to it and as often as you can as it will help speed your recovery, but don't overdo it. It's easy to pull stitching out and wind up back in the hospital if you don't allow yourself to heal properly.

I actually used to set alarms on the weekend to remind myself to eat because it's outside of my work week routine and I would forget otherwise. The hunger pangs come back eventually, although they're still different (more like you feel emptiness or you get tired when you need something instead of feeling that sharp pain…

That looks AMAZING.

Happy surgery day!! Come back and let us know how you did when you're feeling up to it.

Feel free to add me! I'm always open to new MFP friends.

GREAT discussion. I struggle with this as well. I've been having fun being able to get younger-styled items, especially for workout clothes, but I'm also 41 years old so I'm trying to maintain that line where I get things that show off my new body while keeping them age-appropriate. That said, I've had at least two people…

YES! This one! My husband was doing laundry over the weekend and was like, "What is with all this wear and tear on your pants legs?"

Yes, thanks for posting. Interesting stuff.

On top of what @ki4eld said, there's a practical reason this isn't a great idea as well. You're going to be spiraling down through so many sizes of clothes that most anything like that is honestly going to be wasted. Consignment shops and second-hand stores are going to be your best friends for clothes on the way downward.…

Don't EVER let that stop you! I tend to be a week-to-week person, so I usually check in weekly with my progress anyway. Might as well throw in whenever you're able. We don't stand on ceremony.

Today's lunch: an unwrapped Hormel Rev roll (sausage and pepperoni pizza) with some colbyjack cheese added and toasted in a toaster oven. Takes care of my pizza craving.

My goals for this month: 1. Go up a weight bar in my Muscle Max class. 2. Figure out camping-friendly food options for our Spring Break trip - and stick to them. 3. Hit my step count (set at 12,000) at least 5 out of 7 days in the week. 4. Keep up with consistent training for C210K. 5. Keep with healthy snacking - no junk!

Wonton wrappers have really become my go-to bread/cracker substitute. It's nice to have something crunchy besides almonds. Those taco wonton cups have become one of my favorite dinners, and I've also started using them to make mini-pizzas with pepperoni, sauce and cheese.

I struggle with this every single day. I'm not sure my brain will ever flip over to "healthy weight" from "obese." It's as simple as me automatically walking into the plus-sized section when at the store or being startled by my image in the mirror. I'd love to see what our long-timers can offer in this thread.

Welcome to the group! There's lots of great advice and even better support to be found here. Good luck with your journey!

Splenda and sugar-free coffeemate here. No issues. Everybody's body reacts differently post-op, though, so it's really just going to be trial and error until you figure out what works for you.

Awesome pics, @rpyle111! What a contrast!

I have not had the Syntrax Nector Medical, but the unflavored Isopure does not dissolve very well. It BLENDS well, but it doesn't really dissolve. I ended up using it as a food additive (in my yogurt, blended soups, etc.) rather than a drink mixture. The exception to that is my berry smoothies - the ice texture was able to…

Check the amount of protein you're taking in. Usually I get that exhausted feeling when I've been active but haven't hit my protein grams. But also, what @anbrdr said - your body needs rest days, too.

Tom Ka from any thai restaurant is pretty great, too. Mmmmm.

My hospital has two support groups that meet on the first Thursday of each month - topics/discussion are driven by the attendees, but the two groups could not be any more different. The daytime group tends to be people who are more focused on mourning the loss of food as a whole (the "what have I done?"/"this was a…

Last push for the end of the month. How's everyone doing? Updates: 1. Still doing really well with the snacking. A small slip now and again, but nothing as bad as it was getting. 2. NAILED IT! I ran a 5K this weekend and my official time was 34:53 with a chip time of 34:41. 3. I think the weight goal is going to have to…

I just started using a Weight Gurus scale that I like. I like it because it gives me weight, BMI, bone density, water percentage and muscle mass and connects data via bluetooth with Fitbit, which then connects it here.Every now and then, it throws a weight that I have to seriously question, but for the most part, it's…

Thanks, @anbrdr, for reminding me of this thread. I've been lax with accountability lately. 5'1", Heaviest Weight: 250; Surgery Weight: 236 lbs.; Surgery Date: 2/17/15 GOAL: 130 lbs Pre-op diet: 14 lbs Month 1: 14.4 lbs Month 2: 9.8 lbs Month 3: 10.4 lbs Month 4: 7.6 lbs Month 5: 12.4 lbs Month 6: 8.2 lbs Month 7: 7.0 lbs…

Go ahead now! You'll be surprised how much you'll learn and how that will motivate you and help you during the weigh-in/waiting game. If your hospital has a support group, I'd go ahead and attend that as well as it was a great motivation to talk to people who had already had the surgery and to get answers to questions from…

Hmmmm... Yeah, I'd question this too. Our hospital's nut specifically mentioned that it doesn't do any good to protein overload for one meal because your body physically cannot absorb any more than 26 gm of protein in one sitting anyway.

I've had issues lately with my body wanting me to cut back on the amount of Splenda that I use. For instance, I have always put two Splenda packets in my coffee but now I can't tolerate but one. I have heard people switch to Stevia or Truvia with success so I'm trying that out but it's weird how your body just starts…
