Not so much fooling themselves as unaware, I agree. I lost 42 pounds over a period of 6 months before I began eating a low carb diet so I had a really good before and after to compare it to. And it's absolutely true that I eat more - hello 16oz ribeyes and sauteed vegetables - but what's not being accounted for is I…

I've been eating a fairly strict low carb diet for the last seven years (keto level low more often than not although I don't aim for ketosis) and I'm successfully maintaining my weight loss. I do not feel well when I increase my carbs overtime so I'm sure that's part of the reason why it's so effortlessly sustainable for…

I'm sorry, kpk54. I didn't mean for my disdain for this study in my reply to dismiss your interest. But my response was sincere in that if the study gets published I'll be sure to post a link and if I see anything else in regards to low carb and afib I'll post regardless if I find it interesting or compelling myself. I…

It's BS. There's nothing to follow, IMO, but if anything comes of it - or if the study even gets published - I'll be sure to post if I see it. You might be interested in the follow up post: https://twitter.com/jcsouto/status/1103610724075622401

Low carb support isn't widely offered from "brick and mortar doctors" is the reason. Or do you think these patients never went to their primary doctor for treatment and just stumbled upon their website? There's no doubt they're making (or are going to make) shedloads of money but their patients aren't being harmed and many…

The important takeaway is that these refined foods are harmful. Will be interesting to see if there's a change in posts on MFP in the coming years -- I hope the asinine more-vegetables-less-meat trend dies off at least. Why intelligent people think adding vegetables to their cracker, chicken nugget and treat diet improves…

It was a bad habit for us too - we agreed to limit it to the last Friday of the month to break the habit when I started dieting. It was absolutely worthwhile and I'm glad we got out of the habit. These days (5 or 6 years later) I eat takeout a few times a year (if that) and my husband limits it to bar food on Saturdays.…

Jim Mann’s new study: are high fat diets really dangerous, or is soybean oil toxic? By George Henderson Re: Effects of dietary fat on gut microbiota and faecal metabolites, and their relationship with cardiometabolic risk factors: a 6-month randomised controlled-feeding trial Source

If you have weight to lose you might feel better about the process if you remind yourself you're overindulged, not deprived. Dieting isn't punishment it's just what needs to be done to restore balance. And maintaining a healthy weight isn't a virtue but it is better than the alternative - an unhealthy weight. I do…

It's not necessary. Restrict your carbs, eat low/no carb foods to satiety and give it a few weeks and see how you make out. Most respond by spontaneously reducing their calories - no fasting required.

Meat is healthful and nutritious.

Forget the ratios and base your meals around the meat and vegetables dishes you enjoy. Keep your added fats to the minimum you need for your food to be delicious - don't eat fat (or anything) just to reach a certain macro percentage; that's nonsensical. If you're still hungry eat larger portions of meat.

If you're eating at maintenance right now the water weight gain will be minimal - a pound or two. I've experimented with increasing my carbs at various points over the years but it's accompanied by a sharp increase in appetite and obsessive food thoughts so I just prefer to eat a fairly strict low carb diet most of the…
