  • Welcome to my life LOL I had the alarm set for 6am but was up at 5:45 and hey that is sleeping in for me  I got up and headed straight to the gym for a couple of hours. I normally get up on run mornings at 4:30am and gym workouts I'm up at 4am. I get probably about 6-7 hours of sleep per night and that works for me…
  • It is really up to you. I'm also up very early, either 4am for the gym or 4:30 on run days. For me personally I eat a couple slices of whole wheat toast prior to working out or running because that works for me. I think as long as you feel fine and as someone else said, you aren't getting dizzy or lightheaded then continue…
  • Yes. Unprocessed, natural and delicious. They can really take the edge off when you're hungry but are in between meals. I say go for it
  • I use the Garmin 305 for biking and Garmin 405 for running. You get your mile splits which is invaluable information but it is simple to use. The only downfall to the 405 is it has the touch bezel so I tend to lock it or if it gets touched it jumps to the next screen which may or may not bother you. The 305 is bulkier but…
  • Oh for sure, 25 miles a week is easy...cause I'm training for my 3rd marathon
  • Me too :) Love them!
  • I'm the type that needs blunt honesty! My doctor should have told me years before I started changing my life that I was fat and headed to all kinds of medical issues. I think we tend to try and be too politically correct and not hurt peoples feelings when it comes to this issue but all you have to do is look around you to…
  • That is awesome! I smoked for a long time and now I run; sometimes I find it hard to believe I used to be a pack a day smoker
  • Glad to see I'm not the only one out there running in a sports bra  The people calling it underwear crack me up LOL My most recent purchase was a pair of bright orange Nike compression shorts and matching sports bra...meant to be seen! When I run it is all about me and my comfort and there isn't much concern for…
  • Oh you bet I do  I run in a sports bra and compression shorts. Oh sure I get some comments and even some stares but when I run being cool and comfortable tops my list! The other day I got a whistle and I admit I smiled
  • I've seen some calorie burns that don't seem right to me so I don't trust what MFP says my burn is. I use a Garmin when I run so I use that and an online calorie calculator to calculate an average somewhere in between. I ran over 2 hours this morning so I'm sure that is good for somewhere between 1100-1200 calories but…
  • Yep been there and done that  Even now every once in awhile I'll have someone ask me if I'm going to eat. Yes I will eat but like you if I'm going out I plan ahead. Yesterday for instance I planned on having a wrap but no fries and asked for a baked potato, sans butter, instead. It isn't that I don't want to eat the…
  • Doubt gets us all. I started out with a similar program, the basic walk/run and as much as it sucked I just kept working at it. Eventually I noticed it got easier and then I ran my first 5K which was hard but awesome! Now I've run so many distance races I can't count them all and am going to run my 3rd marathon in October.…
  • Ah yes, I have been asked and when I reply changing my diet, no fast food, exercise and hard work I sometimes get that blank stare. You know the one because I'm sure you've gotten it LOL Or I get...oh... You're right, no magic here just tried and true hard work and being diligent about eating healthy!
  • It can be a bit uncomfortable when they go on and on about how great I look. What I try to do though is use it as a teaching moment if the person seems like they want to know more about my journey. It is great that people notice but I do totally get what your saying too
  • I think for many it is looked at as a quick fix, although it is not quick or always the 'fix' people think it is. Quite honestly I think it should only be for those 125 pounds or more over weight. That said, I do have a friend who has lost and kept off 90 pounds by having surgery BUT unlike myself, he is not always able to…
  • Both at the same time  I was left with a horrible amount of skin in my middle and my breasts, well let me just say they no longer looked like breasts LOL The abs surgery was nothing close to as painful as the breasts...wow that hurt! I was back to exercising in two weeks, although very easy, and my first run one…
  • Quality cardio will help weight loss for sure! More cardio, well there are differing opinions but you do what you feel is good for you. I get more cardio than some but I enjoy working out so it keeps me balanced and happy! Weight training is very important as far as building muscle, which will protect your bones as you…
  • I'm a size 0 and I still don't LOL I will wear a pair of board shorts and a bikini top though.
  • There are day when I am not motivated to workout but I get up, get moving and I never regret it  Take Wednesdays and Fridays for instance. Wednesdays are boot camp and I always get in an hour of cardio before class and on Fridays it is core class and the same, at least an hour of cardio prior to the class. This…
  • You look fantastic and they are idiots for not saying something! I have family like that too, probably many of us do  I ran a marathon and not one person, other than my husband, bothered to show up to support me and I admit that hurt. I look at your pictures and the loss is VERY obvious. It makes me mad that so…
  • If you go out and run then you are a runner  I admit I have 26.2, 13.1, Trail Running, 25K and Run Anywhere stickers on my back window but that in and of itself does not make me a runner. What does make me a runner is the fact that I run whether it be for health, for a big race or just to relax. You are a runner and…
  • Hmmm...I work out an hour to two hours pretty much 7 days a week and take a rest day when I feel I need it. I would say from my own personal experience that she is not correct when she says you are only burning 400 although you may not be burning 700. When I run I calculate about 85-90 calories burned per mile. When I work…
  • A daunting task for sure. I love the marathon distance but not one a week LOL I do know someone who has done many, many back to back marathons for several weekends in a row...sponsored  I know the toll training for and running one marathon takes on my body so I can't even imagine doing something like this!
  • If you are truly hungry then eat them. Pretty much daily I eat back about half (somedays a little more) of what I burn. It is really a personal thing as I know people who don't eat back any back. I just base mine and how I feel with normally I burn a good amount of calories so I would be starving if I didn't eat some of…
  • I've been there :) I'll send a friend request nd if you need anything just let me know.
  • I would like to say no but chances are I will for many years to come  I know too many people who say they know calories just by looking and then complain they gain weight LOL Another reason too is because if I look at my count it will keep me pretty honest for the day. I do have one day a week where I don't count, I…
  • Lifting has become a very important part of my training for marathons and smaller races. Quite honestly, I love the look of a toned body. When I look at myself in the mirror I love the muscle I see and my husband says it is really hot :) Lifting not only makes me stronger but it also makes me a better all around athlete.…
  • I do a Chicken Parm without the breading. Plain chicken breast baked in the oven. Once done I put a slice of Provalon cheese and bake until slightly melted, topping that with spaghetti sauce and grated parm cheese. This is seriously good stuff :)
  • I find that people around me fail because they start with calling it a diet. This is not something you take up and then stop when you have reached your ideal weight or size. You have to change how you live or the chances are great that all the weight lost will slowly, or even quickly, creep back in.
