That is a great accomplishment! I have 5 pounds and I'm there too. Congrats! Yay, you!!

This was my experience exactly. After decades trying to eat low fat, semi-vegetarian, whole-grain-based diet and exercising five days a week, the scale wouldn't budge - until I went LCHF. Three weeks in I am down 8 pounds and 3 inches off my waist. And never hungry. I eat 5% carb/25% protein/70% fat, and I'm losing weight.…

Seriously, I eat a lot of fat. Triple cream brie - an ounce has no carbs. I liberally butter everything. I made a batch of oopsie bread the other day and ate a butter sandwich. I am not kidding! It was delicious. Snacks are olives or small dill pickles, some cheese, some meat like salami or soprasata. You can look at my…

Yes, you can do LCHF if you work out regularly. I do boot camp m/w/f and spin t/th and yoga whenever I can fit it in. This is not just a diet for me, it's my response to a shift in my understanding of eating for performance. A great book is The Art and Science of Low-Carb performance by Volek and Phinney. It instructs you…

You already look great in the dress, so I'm sure you can reach your goal!

I've been wearing low-rise skinny cords all winter. My jeans have seen no action.

You are looking fit and strong! If those are your girls in your before pic, you are an excellent role model for them.

On Keto, Drs. Volek and Phinney's book says, controversial as it may seem exercise does not help you lose weight. They have a whole chapter on why it may be good for you for other reasons but for weight loss it doesn't help and may hinder. I do exercise, first because I like exercise. I do boot camp m/w/f; spin t/th; yoga…

I agree with some of the advice here. I looked at your diary. You are not eating many calories - that could be one thing - especially for someone who is exercising. The kind of low cal, low fat eating you are doing doesn't work for every BODY. Google Dr. Peter Attia, a doc who is also a triathlete who worked out 4 hours a…

Switch to sugar-free drinks, then slowly wean yourself off those. You will start to see weight loss immediately and that will keep you going.

Totally agree! My first weeks were higher as I got used to no carbs. Later, your hunger dissipates and that's when you might have trouble eating enough. Luckily, you lose the most weight in your first few weeks as well. Don't skimp on fat. It's hard to retrain your brain, but really the more fat the better.

True! Is it the eyebrows?

I know! I'd like more details on the diet.

He looks younger -- but that often happens when people lose weight.

Yes, his face is glowing. He lost a lot of weight in the face but he doesn't have jowls.

I start my plan with the veggies I want to eat that week, then add meat, cheese, condiments to my plan. I plan it right here in the food diary. I use the recipe builder a lot.

I'm eating less than 30 g carb per day, so sugar was the first thing to go. Stopped craving it at all after a week.

I can't stand clutter. If I haven't worn it in a year - out it goes. If I buy new shoes, a pair of old shoes have to go. And I'm a sucker for compact appliances like microwave ovens that are also convention baking ovens. Small printer/scanner/faxers that can store away on a shelf. Is it odd that only the minimalists are…

I lost 7 pounds the first two weeks. I didn't lose any week 3 - that was last week -- but I lost more inches around the waist. This is week 4 for me. Never hungry/no cravings.
-
I used to drink several glasses of wine a day - almost every day. My first two weeks on this diet I gave it up completely -- first just to see if I can (and I easily can) and second because I didn't want anything standing in the way of meeting my goal. Now I am learning to recognize my cues for thirst and drink water,…

Also a good point. I've seen some imported from Italy brands at the health food store that say packed in olive oil. Maybe I'll try those. Have always wondered if $4 tuna fish in a jar is any different than $1.50 tuna fish in a can.

Good point.

I took a look at your diary. If it were me and I wanted to drop that 5 quickly, I'd reduce my carbs to under 100 a day (mostly green veggies) and increase my fat + protein. You'd see immediate results.

Best motivation in the world. Congrats!

David, could your gout be back? A lot of the guys in my family have it and an attack starts in the big toe for them.

Aspertame (equal) doesn't bother me. The alcohol sugars that are in diabetic chocolates and lots of low-carb bars can give me stomach cramps. Dr. Attia over at The Eating Academy applies his chemistry nerd to the topic of sweeteners:…
