  • That's excellent bloodwork!! WooHoo!! Despite all the bad health genes I've inherited from my parents, the one awesome thing is borderline low blood pressure. I eat all the sodium I want and the only time in my life my blood pressure has ever been high (and my weight has fluctuated by 90 pounds over the course of my adult…
  • awood I used your link and it worked. Thanks! :)
  • Hard boiled eggs! Get someone to buy them for you at Costco - get the 5-dozen flat...or buy at a Grocery Outlet if you have one. Boil 1-2 dozen on the weekend when you have 20 extra minutes, and then you're good to go all week.
  • Whoa, this is quite the range of music on this picture. I don't consider myself a 'metal fan' per se, although I love a handful of bands on this pic. I can handle the Kyuss/Metallica/Dio/Ozzy/Suicidal Tendencies/Motorhead/Megadeth etc. and leave the Hammerfall/Pantera/Slayer/Lamb of God/Anthrax etc. to my metal-loving…

  • Congratulations! And High Five! I like that you were out to do it gradually and not overnight like a lot of people. Your arms look crazy buff and veiny; I love it. Thank you for inspiring all of us. :)
  • Upcoming race: VineMan Location: Guerneville, CA, Windsor, CA, Healdsburg, CA, and all over wine country Date: July 27, 2013 Duration: Full Ironman distance Triathlon 140.6 (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run) Trail or Road: Road Goal Time: 15 hour 50 min First Race? • It's great for a hangover. ;) Also for hydrating after long, hot workouts. I like the Zico brand the best - especially the chocolate and tropical flavors. If you can't stomach it straight, mix it in your protein powder or smoothie instead of milk or plain water.
  • The WODs on the main site are wicked hard for the beginner, IMO (especially leading up to the open workouts every year). You'd be better off maybe finding a box that is a little more realistic that posts their workouts and doing those. I think mine does...

  • I am a devotee of Crossfit. I love it. Been going for about a year and a half. I'm so much stronger now, and I have a new love for weight lifting! I had never touched a barbell in my life before joining, and now I can lift as much as some of the guys. :) I don't even freak out any more when we do huge workouts like Murph!…

  • I am a mixed bag of emotions right now: happy because I am going to the As game today and we are sitting in a luxury box with catering, etc...and my family is all going, so that should be fun. I am also sad because an acquaintance passed away unexpectedly yesterday (I don't even know what from) but had been in a big fight…
  • Sorry, my height is 5'6". Weight is 225 (that's a work in progress, obviously). I've been Crossfitting off and on (the off parts are due to non-CF related injuries) for 18 months. Before that I had never touched a barbell in my life.
  • DAYUM, GIRRRRL! Nice work!!
  • My last Crossfit Total from a couple of weeks ago (all using a barbell): Overhead Press: 115 pounds Low Bar Back Squat: 235 pounds Deadlift: 305 pounds
  • Yep! You won't taste them in there, and they add a good amount of protein and no fat.
  • You can use the liquid egg whites in a carton - add to smoothies for extra protein, virtually fat-free. Just check your ingredients to make sure they don't have any funky stuff added. Nonfat Greek yogurt Canned tuna in water Shrimp Chicken Breast Ground turkey breast
  • If I am craving something sweet and don't have enough calories left at the end of the day, I'll make a HUGE cup of herbal tea. I have about a million different flavors. Sometimes I'll sweeten it with a little Splenda or sometimes not at all (I've been trying to eliminate such things from my diet). It usually helps. If the…
  • Unfortunately, "processed" is a term that was coined somewhere, and not technically correct, but widely accepted to mean foods not near to their original state and having been refined, or nutritionally void ingredients added. It's kind of like how the term "organic" has come to mean "grown without the use of pesticides or…
  • You might be able to sell your unopened bags on Craigslist. I made some money on unused Medifast "food" once upon a time when I decided I didn't want to do that crud any more.
  • I had a 2-year-old who passed away in 2000. His half brothers were quite young at the time (6 and 4). We found some books on the subject especially geared towards children. Do a search on Amazon and you can find some that are not religious. We have this one:…
  • No sugar added jam. Just a Tablespoon. Fresh berries and a drizzle of honey or agave nectar. Almond butter.
  • Nope, this has never happened to me. If I track all my food, stay near my calorie goal, and get some exercise, I lose weight. Doesn't matter what program I'm doing - counting calories, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Paleo, whatever. I count every single thing, am honest about portion sizes (I weigh and measure 90% of my food),…
  • 9th grade. Waiting in the school hallway for the classroom door to be opened. David Tweed said to me (yes it was over 15 years ago but I still remember his name), really loudly, "You're the only fat chick I've ever seen who doesn't have any boobs!" I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me.
  • More calorically dense "clean" foods? Nuts, avocados, coconut oil (makes your skin look great, too), fruit, sweet potatoes, starchy squashes (acorn squash baked with butter, mmm), sunflower seeds, BACON!! Just put bacon on everything. Aim for a pound a day. :) Of course, I mean the uncured, no nitrate kind!
  • Meatloaf is the easiest thing to sneak veggies into! Shred some carrots, zucchini, sweet potato, or whatever you have around in there. You can also add mushroom, garlic, chopped spinach...the possibilities are endless!
  • That's funny, this morning before I got up, I was thinking about combining my morning coffee with protein powder and wondering what else I would put in it and how it would taste. Thanks!
  • Okay, at the risk of getting flamed by other posters, I'm not going to tell you to question your trainer or do your own thing because that is not what you asked. If you feel that this person is a reputable trainer who knows what he is doing, then do what he is telling you. You can start by telling him what is happening…
  • Currently Asics running shoes (need slight motion control) and for Crossfit: Innov8 F-lite 230s.
  • "I have a bad knee and my doctor says I'll never be able to run." This is probably true for a small percentage of the population, but I think it's an excuse that people use because they don't LIKE running. I think that with the proper shoes, running surface, and training program (i.e., not starting out too fast or too…
  • I had the same problem when I first started squatting. It was frustrating. I was in a barbell class with a bunch of dudes and I felt like everyone was yelling at me, ending with me in tears. I learned a few things: -It's better to take your time, go slowly, and get the form right before adding weight to the bar. Then when…
