  • I use Vega Sport and Aloha.
  • This site is the bomb.com!!! Thanks for sharing it!
  • Along these lines - carbs before runs are great for energy. They are also great immediately post run, such as a shake. Then about an hour later follow up with a meal balanced w/ protein and carbs, like scrambled eggs and baked sweet potato fries. My post run shake includes tart cherry juice, frozen blueberries, frozen…
  • They are high in calories, but they are super good for us. Try to enjoy 1/4 or 1/2 of one a day. Save the unused portion in the skin with the seed in a ziploc baggie with as much of the air taken out as possible. It will still brown a little, but tastes fine if you eat within a day or two.
  • Congratulations! That's a huge accomplishment! Love your before/after pic!
  • Chickpeas, tofu, tempah, black bean pasta, fish and eggs (if you eat them), greek yogurt - plain, without all the extra sugar, hemp hearts or hemp protein, chia seeds. Hope this gives you a start.
  • My goal is and has been to eat for performance and recovery. With that in mind, I time my higher carb meals prior to my runs, aiming for about 65% of my day to be carbs. I always follow my long runs (anything over 60 mins) with a recovery shake. My recovery shakes are not low in calorie, but they contains what my body…
  • Strange - I drink cashew or almond milk, and have found it to last longer than my kids dairy milk.
  • Certain grains were precipitating cravings. Since eliminating the grains, I've not had the issue with them. As a long distance runner, my body still needs a fair amount of carbs each day, so I get them from sweet potatoes, quinoa, amarath, and buckwheat.
  • I add dark leafy greens to lots of my meals - scrambled eggs or omelet, add spinach. Smoothies or shake - add kale. Sauteed veggies - add more spinach. I also drink domatcha tea, which contains some fiber, and once in a while I'll add Amazing Greens to my smoothies, along with chia seeds.
  • I'm curious how many calories your aiming for each day? Even on a low calorie diet, there is room for some pasta occasionally. As a previous poster suggested, I would look and upping the veggies in the sauce to help expand the visual on the plate. There are ther substitutions you can try, but try them with the mindset that…
  • Interesting. I am testing out a pseudo - paleo diet right now. I add in pseudo grains, as I am a long distance runner and still need a fair amount of carbs. I've worked with a nutritionist and developed a plan that closely mimics the paleo concepts. Lots of fresh veggies and fruits, quality meat and no dairy. I don't find…
  • Do you get a say in where you go, is it already picked out for today? Restaurants vary by locality - would be helpful to know what is around you. Otherwise, I sticked w/ baked/blackened chicken or fish. If it's lunch I opt for a complex carb such as wild or brown rice, or plain potato topped w/ salsa. I like veggie…
  • I've been loving the GT's Kombucha - Gingerade flavor. Low cals and low sugar.
  • Leftovers or meal prepping on the weekend for the week ahead, are my two gos.
  • Depends on what your goals are?
  • A general rule of thumb is half your body weight. For example, say the person weighs 140, 70 grams of protein a day would be a good starting point. See how your body responds to this, then adjust accordingly.
  • Yup. This ^^^

  • Sweet cravings are something I have really struggled with. There are a few things that have helped me. First, I have been trying to put a purpose to each of the foods I'm eating. I ask myself if this food is going to help me reach my goals (weight and performance). Then I look at how I can make a healthier, but tasty…
  • I struggled getting enough protein in each day while eating a strict vegan diet. My body doesn't tolerate soy or legumes, so my protein options were very limited. I then added back in eggs and fish. I still wasn't getting enough, so back in came chicken and turkey. I try to stay away from red meat still as it tends be…
  • I use it regularly. It has many great benefits. While it is pricey, it really only takes a teaspoon in a daily smoothie, so the powder lasts me forever! I add it to my energy bites, smoothies, etc. It has a slight nutty taste.
  • I got this one from this site - just place a whole, frozen chicken in the crockpot, add foil wrapped potatoes/sweet potatoes, cover and cook all day. So simple. It creates some juice that you can even use to make a gravy if you want. The potatoes end up perfect.
  • Check out Skinnytaste. I believe she has an entire section of vegetarian recipes. I also like Knead to Cook's blog.
  • Crustless quiche is good. Just whisk up a bunch of eggs, then in a food processor shred some carrots and zucchini. I also like to add chopped red pepper and green onion. Mix everything together, pour in a baking dish. Bake until golden brown. I have also added eggs or protein powder to my oats. Greek yogurt is a great…
  • Are you looking for green smoothies or more richer style?
  • I like to use salsa. I'm not a fan of it, but you may like it - baba ganoush, it's made with roasted eggplant. I like to mix a few tbls of tahini with lemon juice and water. Great for dipping baby carrots, also great as a salad dressing. I've also made hummus without the chickpeas but using zucchini.
  • Great site - thanks for sharing!
  • Lots of great advice in this thread! I couldn't agree more about planning! As for the junk/sweet cravings - I also have been dealing with this. I saught the help of a nutritionist to help me. We determined through a process of elimination that grains and gluten were perpetuating the cravings. Once I eliminated grains, the…
  • I am not an avid plain water drinker, so I'm always on the search for alternatives. Here are a few of my favorites - GT's Kombucha Gingerade - can be a little expensive, but it's a nice treat Good Earth Sweet and Spicy tea - can get this caffeine free or with caffeine Stash - licorice spice herbal tea Fruit infused water -…
