  • :) Looking back, I realize that I spent a lot of my life doing things or wanting to do things that I thought would be fun or make me happy. It wasn't until I was required to stay home at the beginning of the pandemic that I realized that what I craved was solitude, the company of my husband, and entertainment that I could…
  • :'( Jake's computer quit working on Monday. His handy computer fixing friend across the street came and got it and declared it not fixable. After much hand wringing, Jake decided to go to Costco and buy a new laptop. His daughter went with him and I urged him to choose what he wanted and not just look at the price. Later…
  • :) Sandy, going over the night before is smart. You don't have to worry about traffic or something making you late. :) Lin, learning two line dances in the same day is too much for me. I used to go to a workshop every June where they taught many new dances. It was fun and very challenging. Now I like dancing the same dances…
  • :) Pip, that's a great quilt. :) Tracey, your crafts are amazing. :) Annie, many hugs to you. You are doing an awesome job looking after your dad. :) Heather, There is always so much going on at your house and in your mind. :) There was a brief windstorm here about midnight....enough to blow some branches onto the roof and…
  • :) Lin, what a great teapot. I usually read more than one book at a time. I have a physical book that I read in the bathroom, an e book that I read on the Kindle app on my phone in bed at night or anytime I have an extra moment, and sometimes an audio book that I listen to while I walk or ride the exercise bike. I consider…
  • :) Michele, Your ceramics have such a happy feel. :) I started knitting Christmas stockings in 1976. I knit some as gifts. When other people wanted them, I figured out how much the yarn cost and said I'd knit them for the cost of materials. That was a financially lean time in my life and that gave me money to buy yarn.…
  • This is a close up of the blanket pattern. It is called trinity stitch and is really easy. I added a seed stitch border and twists at each end of each row.
  • 🌻This is the blanket I have knitted for Project Linus
  • :) I am emerging from a two week black hole of having a terrible cold (the first one in many years) compounded by Jake having the same cold and having to call 911 three times for heart related issues, which included going to the hospital twice, once overnight. He came home with the directions to take it easy and not bend…

  • :) Pip, One of the toughest adjustments I've had to make in life was changing what I've been doing to accommodate my husband's changing abilities. It has been a challenge and I know you'll do well. <3 Barbie
  • :) Welcome Penny in Texas. I like your plan of focusing on the type of person you want to be. One of the first decisions I made in this journey was change my identity of being a great chocolate chip cookie baker. I left baking aside and now am known as a walker and a knitter. I knit blankets for Project Linus and do most…
  • :) We live on the North Olympic Peninsula. Our local hospital is Olympic Medical Center. That's where Jake was on Friday night. His first cardiologist was in Seattle and Jake had his pacemaker/defibrillator surgery at Swedish Cherry Hill. Now his cardiologist is at St. Michael's in Silverdale which is much easier to get to…
  • :) Jake is home from the hospital. He called to come get him just as I was starting to fix supper so I shut off the stove and grabbed a meal replacement bar and headed for the hospital. :) Earlier in the day Jim's daughter called to say that she had made plans to come up on the 11th. She also called Jake's friend and asked…
  • We have a new thread for November 2024 https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10926552/women-ages-50-for-november-2024#latest
  • :) Thank you all for your kind words. Jake has a complicated heart with stents and a pacemaker/defibrillator. When they diagnosed his heart problems in 2005, the doctor said he had another 10-15 years so we are living on borrowed time and grateful for every moment of it. Since then he has developed respiratory issues that…
  • This has been a tough day. We called 911 for Jake last night and they came and said it was just a scare with shortness of breath and left him here. Tonight he decided he wanted to go the hospital so they took him. Annie is stressed and needs a lot of attention. :) Here is the link to the thread for November…
  • :) There's a way to bookmark it so you can find it again. I found this thread years ago and have been coming back daily. These women are special friends to me We have supported each through joy and sorrow and lots of challenges 🌻🌞🤩
  • :) 🌻Today is pill day. I dole out meds into snack bags for AM and PM for six days at a time. The four bottles on the right are mine. The others are Jake's
  • :) Lisa, I agree with you about not making comparisons with anyone else. Along with that, one of my other beliefs is "what's fun for other people may not be fun for me, and vise versa." Sometimes I read about what others have been doing and think how grateful I am that I don't have to be doing that. :) Carol, your tree is…
  • 🌞🌻Jeanne this is what I do to reply to someone (bold their name in my reply) About meal planning--my husband and I have figured out some meals that are easy and healthy and we rotate them for the big meal we eat together This makes grocery shopping easier and faster because we eat the same things. With practice and trial…
  • :) <3 Yippee....dancing with my friend this morning.
  • 🌞🎶Welcome Jeanne If you are looking for support and want encouragement, you have come to the right place. I came here at age 62 after decades of fighting with weight. I started by creating a healthy eating plan for myself with high nutrition and low calories. One day at a time I stayed with the plan sometimes sitting at…
  • :) Today Annie and I are waiting in the car outside the doctor's office. Jake had to see his primary doctor after his 911 call and ambulance to the hospital. We dropped him off then did his errands at the pharmacy and library. Annie likes the pharmacy drive through because they have a treat for her. Being the driver is…
  • :) All is well here this morning. :) Allie, It looks like you are feeling better and can enjoy your cruise. :) Kim, loved the photos of your trip to Boston. :) We got more firewood yesterday. Our friends had trees cut down in their yard last year and part of their cleanup was to hire someone to split the wood and deliver…
  • :) Jake is home from the emergency room. All is fine but they were glad that he came in to get checked out. :) Lanette, I wear only jeans that have a pocket that holds my phone so I have my phone with me all the time. I charge the phone while I'm sitting down at a meal or using the computer. I use the pedometer feature to…
  • Jake had another "event" with his defibrillator early this morning so we called 911 and they hauled him off to the hospital to do more testing than what the EMTs could do. He's feeling OK and the the EKG that they did came out normal but it's good to get further information.
  • :) Rosemarie A poodle puppy. How wonderful for you. One of the happiest chapters in my life was when we had poodles. Is yours a Standard Poodle or a smaller one? 🌻🌞I have so much less time to work in my yard this year primarily because of the need to supervise Annie, the puppy. However, I am delighted at how much I have…
