Cooking is easy. Get a few recipes from magazines, cookbooks, this site, etc. Follow the recipes exactly. A few tips: 1. Do NOT put your finger or any other body part in front of the sharp end of the knife. 2. If it says to stir constantly, do that. Do not stop stirring or it will burn. 3. Use the numbers on the dial, 1 is…

I admit I did not read all the posts so someone smarter than me probably has pointed this out. The premise that if you eat more calories you have more energy is wrong. You only burn the calories you need to based on bmr and energy exerted. Eat more calories then you burn and you gain weight not feel more energetic.

Agreed, but I think my recommendation was to use this site to calculate a reasonable deficit or are you suggesting that this site encourages anorexia?
-
Weight loss is strictly about total calories eaten. If you can not exercise just eat less and you will lose. Fortunately there is a website that allows you to calculate how many calories you should eat to lose weight then it only adds calories for exercise if you exercise. It also allows you to track what you ate so you…

The OP has some issues. How many pics of Brittany do you have stored on your computer. You are more of a stalker than a troll. Edit to Add: I originally thought this was a serious post. That was when I thought you were a 23 year old female who was scared of bulking by lifting weights. (see page 1).
-
I was going to say almost the same thing. You can always out eat any exercise program.
-
I thought this was going to be about the 3 second rule after you dropped your sandwich on the floor. It is not like you could wash it, the bread gets soggy. Add sarcasm smiley. Good post.
-
OK, so she is a little bulky. I think the OP is responding to all of the "women won't get bulky by lifting unless they use steroids" threads. I think the real take away is that even if a woman gets a little bulky through hard work she A). Must have wanted to because it won't just happen by walking into the weight room and…

This site includes a deficit in the calculation if you selected weight loss as your goal. If it says you can eat up to 3027 for the day, that still includes a deficit. Some people believe that the site over estimates calories burned by exercise and therefore will only eat back half or so. That would still allow you to eat…

Even though you are running around, you still do not have to eat out. It would take some planing and extra time on the weekends. You could prep your meals on the weekends to take with you. You would end up eating cold meals mostly but that is okay. There are things like london broil beef slices on a salad that is really…

While I can not point to the article I can offer a slightly different perspective. I was a heel striker and still am if I run in running shoes. For some reason that is my natural tendency. When I run completely barefoot, I do not heel strike. I do not have to think about it. If I do land on the heel there is immediate…

Another black drinker here. I prefer a good espresso. It is hard to find a good espresso (that is not bitter) in the US. At home I have a Bialetti pot which does a good job. I also use my french press. Some beans are better in the press. I hate using my drip maker, it makes bitter coffee and loses all character. No wonder…

I have and use a scale, BUT a lot of the foods in the mfp data base do not have the option of entering as a weight. Several are listed only by volume and several are listed by portion size determined by someone. If I know it is a food listed by volume then I will use my measuring cups or spoons. To the OP, I have a…

If you are up to 5 miles in two weeks you have really done TOO MUCH TOO SOON. I would suggest stopping for a few weeks till the pain stops then start again. It is like starting from scratch when transitioning to barefoot or to minimum shoes. You should be thinking c25k timeline i.e. 9 weeks to 3 miles then no more than 10…

Congratulations in successful maintenance especially with some extremely stressful life situations. I love the quote about change. Do you know where that came from?
-
Another WOW. Now comes the fun part, maintenance. You just need to keep doing what you did to win.
-
Not what you want to hear but I had the same thing happened to a finger 20 years ago and it still hurts today whenever it gets cold. It doesn't matter which gloves or mittens I have in it hurts long before any other finger.

I guess it was the ice cream that turned this to a milk thread. :-) Are you using the mfp defaults for fat and protein? If so the defaults are to low for most people. Try setting your protein to 1 gram / lb of lbm or body weight and your fat to .4 g/ lb bodyweight and consider these somewhat as minimums. Fill in the…

You don't have to exercise to lose weight. It is more important to reduce the calories in then to increase the calories out. It is easy to out eat any exercise program. That said moving is important. Start just walking 5 minutes away from home then turn around and head home. As you start moving and losing weight the knees…

For those of you interested in learning more about wines, there is a national organization called the American Wine Society. It is a non profit group whose focus is on the wine consumer. There are chapters throughout the US that meet monthly to taste wines. All are welcome from complete novices to professional winos. :-)…

A caveat of a different type. I have bad knees. In both knees, the patella grinds on the bone when bending. I do not have the groove that the patella is suppose to ride in. This makes me susceptible to patella dislocations and subluxations. I also have cartridge damage in both knees. There is a lot of clicking and popping…
-
When I was a teenager, my left patella would dislocate. I had to have it put back in its proper place in emergency rooms twice. At nineteen I had surgery to "tighten" up the ligaments to hold the patella in place. The surgery was successful in that I have not had any full dislocations only partial dislocations (subluxation…

I'm not a doctor or a physical therapist. I would focus on upper body until cleared for legs by your doctor. Then I would start body weight squats and lunges and build from there. A PT may suggest better exercises to start with for the legs.

Early to bed, early to rise. Seriously, it just takes time to adjust. I am in bed by 9:30 most nights and up before 5 without an alarm clock. The sucky thing is weekends when I could sleep later I wake up early now (unless I was out past 2 or so.)
-
Edited to delete post after further though. Sorry if I caused an issue.

I'll leave the shoe comments to those that wear them :-) . Are you landing in your heels? This generates a lot of impact force on the knees. You should be landing on the balls of your feet also called a mid foot strike. This allows your arch and calf to absorb the impact as they are intended to do when running.
-
How come when anyone asks about either barefoot running or minimum shoes the response is to go to a store that makes their money from selling shoes. Do not listen to this. Do try on the shoes before you buy them. Some people have problem with the material between the toes causing blisters. For these people a more…

If you want to gain some muscle, lift heavier weights. This should firm you up while eating at your maintenance calories, You will not get bulky from heavier weights. There are hundreds of threads by women on that topic to prove you will only look tone and sexy from heavy lifting.
-
What were you putting in those salads? Most vegetables are very low calorie. To the OP, I say keep doing what you are doing. Maybe she will see your success and be motivated to change.

If you just log your exercises under strength training and not cardio MFP will not add any calories to your total for the day. I have set my calories at a slight surplus to bulk and set my macros for 1.8 gram / lb of protein. When I log cardio, I just ignore the extra calories and shoot to eat my calories and macros. I…
