Touching the logo on the top left will bring up a side menu where you can click on diary and view it (among other things). I don't particularly love the extra step involved here either.

I noticed a possible bug last night when entering a recipe. I was adding an ingredient to the recipe and I clicked the scan button to scan a barcode. I like the new interface overall, but it's a little annoying having to tap twice to view my diary from the homescreen (open the menu and select Diary).
