  • Almost 47-1/2 myself and struggling... Injuries and such here and there have keep my exercise at lower intensity than I would like. It has gotten harder every year of aging. Was suffering from night sweats and the occasional hot flash but since I did acupuncture, that has definitely decreased. I always look bloated... I…
  • I would say yes as long as you are in pretty decent shape right now... have you been doing any sort of exercising? Hal Higdon has a good 12 week novice training program that I did before my first half.
  • I have outer elbow pain... I at first tried to work through it... decided it best to rest, ice, take ibuprofen. After about 3 weeks no better, and actually feeling worse so going to see my ortho doc... I assume it is some sort of tendinitis but I would have thought it would have gotten somewhat better by now and not worse.
  • Feel free to add me but I will be "inactive" for a couple weeks come the end of January as I have to have a torn meniscus repaired. I have run a bunch of 5K (even placing in my age group a few times - but easy to do when you are older), ran a 10K, 1 half marathon, atttempted a second one not know I had a torn meniscus and…
  • Does it work other than that, meaning can you see date/time, etc... I don't have an answer but curious because on occasion mine says cannot locate HR or something like that and just shows zeros
  • can you provide any exercises or references on the best way to use a foam roller for a runner???
  • If you have a smart phone look into yoga for runners app. It has great pre and post run routines.
  • If just soreness, I would do your walk/run... but if you feel sharp, stabbing pain at any point stop. You can expect to be sore with a new activity.
  • Do you think it is just muscle soreness or actual pain, like from an injury??
  • In my humble opinion, I think in the beginning focusing more on cardio is important (while still doing some strength training). I think once you get maybe within 20 pounds or so of goal, then I would up the strength training. I know this works for me.
  • I am no expert, and I am not saying this to be a smart *kitten*, but you views on eating the "perfect" food is also part of your eating disorder... control is a large part of an eating disorder and this is just a different way for you to do it. Please talk to a professional, again, I am not being mean and it is just my…
  • I find it less dauntig to set smaller goals, lose 5 pounds in a month as opposed to a big number but that certainly seems attainable.
  • splenda is poisoness??
  • Depends on your fitness level.. If you are new to such things, start out slow with maybe 1 or 2 sets of 10. Do you have any weights at home? What is your current fitness level?
  • Sit ups/crunches, pushups, squats, lunges... using your body weight is fine. You can do jumping jacks, maybe jump rope, get exercise DVDs..
  • I like my planet fitness, it is clean, people are friendly. There are some seriously buff people at my PF so apparently they are able to do what they need to do. I really like the circuit. I get a really high calorie burn doing it. Granted it does not have a lot of things I would like, but it is affordable and I can make…
  • what do you mean no deadlifts allowed?? I do at mine..
  • Thanks. I will try the sleeve. I am scheduled for knee surgery end of month anyway so I am still going to rest until then since I cannot do the program anyway... hopefully when I cannot work my lower body, I can start on the upper.
  • I am out of here temporarily ladies... having knee surgery the end of month and have been having some elbow pain issues so at only 5 weeks into the program, I have to stop for now...
  • No with the New Rules of Lifting For Women program I have been doing it is pushups, seated rows one day and then DB shoulder press and wide grip lat pulldowns the other day. I have previous done the exercise you mentioned but not recently.
  • Thanks.. I have never had this issue before, and I have lifted heavy before... I am going to rest it for a bit yet in hopes that the pain lessens. It is not constant but certain movement bother it and if I touch it, it feels like a bruise... perhaps heavy lifting is not in the cards for me anymore?? :frown:
  • Central PA girl here... I believe I say both but probably mainly dinner...
  • Thanks Cynthia. I will be having surgery on my knee at the end of the month... fingers crossed that it heals by then and I can at least work upper body while the lower heals!
  • and what about us poor folk where Planet Fitness and their equipment is the only option??
  • bumping in case it got lost in the shuffle! :flowerforyou:
  • Sorry about your injury.. I am also a runner sidelined with a meniscal tear.. surgery to fix it at end of month. Your injury is much worse than mine so I can still walk/run and do lower body work. Start with the weights you have at home and work upper body. If they are too light, maybe get bands or something like that. You…
  • Not British here but a similar article was in our newspaper here, not a "rag" paper, our daily news...
  • Honestly, I was in the best shape of my life when I was strictly running, my body changed dramatically, muscular, trim, but again both are important.
  • I have tried both ways individually. What works for me is a combination of the 2 but focusing more on cardio. What works for one person may not work for another.. For me it was trial and error for sure.
  • do you have nutrtional info for this??
