Um, here's the thing. You might actually burn up there. I'm 6'1" and some change, and ~440. My daily burn total for a primarily sedentary life is around 3500 calories just to function. When I add exercise, my burns skyrocket to 5000-6000 calories A DAY. I'm sorry, but you cannot use a standard calculator to get your…

I started out 300lbs+ overweight, and disabled... but it really does come down to the nature of the disability as to whether or not it really keeps a person from exercise. Many disabilities are actually improved by exercise, as long as the exercise is appropriate. Why not discuss exercise options with the physician that…

Where did you get this information? MFP's numbers are grossly inaccurate for those of us big and tall people. MFP would regularly tell me that I burned 1/3-1/2 of the calories my calorimeter would report. If it were me, I would average the two for now, but get a device that is specifically made to monitor your individual…

Eating intervals are very individual, as demonstrated by this thread. There really isn't an ultimate truth to the matter that covers every person on this Earth. However, for people like myself, who have diagnosed issues with resting metabolism and thyroid function due to things like eating disorders, eating at regular…

I think of it as.. I weigh the equivalent of an average 4-5 person family. I have lost 2 children, and now working on a spouse :P hahaha Gotta have fun with it, I think.

For me, I am like the others here... though I am already an insomniac clinically, it can be way worse if I don't make sure to have something in my system to prevent severe low blood sugar during sleep. Shutting down is important, but there is also a reason why people have "bedtime snacks" that are full of protein and…

Neither, if you ask me. I have a BodyMedia unit, and while they did merge with Jawbone, the tech is completely different and seems to be far more accurate for actual calorie counts and such than other "activity monitors." I wanted something that would accurately track downtime burns, rather than just calculate on an…

My question was more, how do you know you're in a deficit if you don't know what your TDEE is? "I feel I am in a deficit" is not nearly the same thing as knowing you are. Based on your numbers, using a typical calculator, you are eating approximately an average person of your age/weight/height who works out 5 days a week's…

I'm flattered that you all think this was good enough for The Onion, which as we all know is a very reputable and consistent site for timely current events and information. :D
-
I see no one has asked, who calculated your TDEE, what formula are you using to calculate your daily intake need and your deficit, and what method of calorie burn tracking are you using? Menopause and other hormone changes in the body can really affect our metabolic rates, and it's typical that it slows for women during…

I appreciate the fact that someone else has come out to say they were diagnosed as malnourished aka "starving" at a higher weight. People simply don't understand that you don't have to look like a skeleton to be critically ill from nutrient deficiencies. The body does not just need calories to survive!
-
For the record.... Starvation mode DOES kick in when you are anorexic. I'm proof positive. What people misunderstand is that starvation mode as a medical condition is NOT something that prevents you from losing weight. It's something that pertains to aggressive thermo-adaptivity, that causes the body to adjust itself to…

Basically what it comes down to for most things is that eating it in excess of moderation is what causes any of the negative effects that people discuss, unless you have an allergy or sensitivity to it to start. Now, there is *some* merit to being concerned about the SOURCE of your dairy and such. This is because,…

If you have a history of hemorrhoids, it's quite possible that upping the fiber without increasing the water intake has re-aggravated the problem. They don't really go away so much as the swelling goes down, and straining/pushing can make them swell and bleed. You *can* have too much fiber in the sense that if you don't…

I firmly believe that if you are actually in need of psychiatric medications, you need to be seeing a counselor as well as a licensed psychiatrist/psychiatric medication specialist. GPs do not have full education on these things, and a NP is NOT a doctor. She may be great for standard care but psychiatry is a specialty…

@mabelbabel1 Sorry to be delayed here, but wanted to come back since I got tagged, see what was up. The cost of Rosetta Stone is one of the major downfalls. The concepts used in the courses, where they use active, real life practice to teach language, work well for a lot of people but are no longer the most unique. RS is a…

Just FYI, Duolingo is 100% free and accessible from any internet access. I'd personally recommend it over paying for Rosetta Stone. I taught ESL for a while and I feel like the overall program differences are well-worth it. Just my two cents though.

I use Duolingo. They have a French learning program, I've been using it to brush up my Spanish and to learn French.

My college food focus was salad bar as well. They almost always had fresh made baked chicken breast on the hot line, and then I'd make a veggie-full salad with a spinach base. It's actually pretty easy, you just have to have self-control since there are usually more options in a college mess hall than other daily living…

We all have our own paths. I essentially became addicted to starving myself, and then would binge to an insane level. There was no "high" that came from thinking or from eating itself. Would actually pride myself in how long I'd go between eating. I ruined much of my metabolism with that habit. Nowadays, I have a different…

It really depends on what you're into. I know what reddit is, and I think it's pretty often annoying, on par with buzzfeed. When I'm bored, I write or work on puzzles or something.

While antidepressants tend to encourage weight gain, it tends to be because they can dull the decision making process and limit self-control with certain compulsive orders. It is not common that they increase weight simply for themselves alone, like by causing water retention past 10 pounds or the like. If you feel you…

I could only read so much of the back and forth before I wanted to call BS. Don't tell your wife you miss laying with her and being with her, but then say "She knew when we got married that I'd be spending large portions of my day outside of work in the gym." You make the choice as to how you spend your time, and the only…

I would switch out the treadmill for some overall strength training, and perhaps consider doing it after the classes. Not sure why kelly is confused about the lean muscle statement. If you're looking to build lean muscle, you really do need to put in resistance training as more of a focus, as aerobics are more focused on…

Hey hey! *cheers*

I actually have mine broken up in 8 hour chunks, and use two sections to separate out drinks with calories and to track my meds/vitamins. I think my diary might be open, I'm picking up the tracking to a higher degree of accuracy now but at least can be demonstrative ;)

I'm just sticking my head up in this thread... Would like to have more night-shifters on my list simply because I find myself incredibly tempted and struggling right now... Making a change as of midnight today, and a coworker gone done and plunked a apple pie dumpling in mah face.
