Here's what my wife and I (and several of our friends) do. We weigh ourselves once a week. We try to make it the same day of the week, at the same time of day, because your weight fluctuates throughout the day. We weigh in (and you should wear the same clothes--a sweater and jeans weighs more than a light towel) every…

I bite my tongue and cheeks more than I used to. I didn't realize how much fat I'd lost from my face--I have to relearn how to eat! And yes, with 150 pounds less of me, the wind blows right through me. I'm making tea right now! And we won't even talk about how frequently one has to use the facilities...

I add it to sugar-free vanilla pudding or yogurt. My wife mixes it and actually uses it as peanut butter, but it's a little thin for my taste. I've also added it to oatmeal and it is yummy!

I love burgers--that's the problem. I'll start loading them up with stuff and end up screwing up my whole day (or week). And once I eat one, it's like potato chips, or bacon--I can't stop! So instead, I eat chicken breast or portabello mushrooms in place of a burger and save my beef intake for low-sodium jerky or steak.…

I eat it a whole lot less than I used to, but I do like an occasional steak. It's the burgers (and often what I want on the burgers) that I've had to stop completely. It actually helps with iron too--for some reason, the best foods for iron, like bread and beef, are the ones blessed with carbs and fat and cholesterol! Keep…

I was listening to NPR a few days ago and heard an interview on Science Friday (a repeat from January) that explains why juicing is not necessarily as good for you as might be believed. Here's the link to the transcript: http://www.npr.org/2013/01/11/169144853/the-fallacies-of-fat Lots of interesting information in there…

I made eggnog French toast for breakfast, using a half eggnog/half skim milk and Sara Lee 45-calorie bread. Came to 76 calories a slice, and we had some turkey sausage on the side. And we just had a lovely piece of 122-calorie chocolate cheesecake made with fat-free cream cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt! Vegetarian…

You know, my wife and I tend to fight over yogurt too! In our case, it's not Greek yogurt. She eats an Activia every day, and I just get generic low-calorie stuff, but sometimes she'll start eating mine. So yesterday, I go to grab a yogurt--I'd just purchased ten 6 oz. cartons on a 10 for $3.00 sale, and I'd only eaten two…

Started at 385 and now at 275. You can do it!

There's a McD right next to my office, and it's my go-to lunch place. I get a grilled chicken snack wrap and a side salad with the light Italian or balsamic vinaigrette. Periodically, I'll grab the southwestern salad. My wife enjoys the oatmeals, and once in a while I might throw in a fruit and yogurt parfait. I've found…

I can see where all of these are annoying, but I'll take 'em. After 37 years of being overweight, I'm excited and motivated every time people who care about me notice. That being said, I guess growing up on the farm, we were taught it wasn't polite to comment on someone's weight period. So I usually start a conversation…
