  • I would encourage you not to go under 1200, I did that and much less for 3 months and felt awful, as well as not losing any weight, and 3 weeks ago I increased my calories, and am now seeing some inches come off. Read the threads on the group listed-eat more to weigh less and you will save yourself some frustration. Just…
  • I am in the same boat as the original poster, upped my calories (re the recommendations of TDEE and BMR excel spreadsheet from this website search results), and have added jogging to my routine. I am having a hard time eating over 1200, but I am definitely feeling better, and seeing some inches come off. I agree with all…
  • Make sure you get good calories, and take some vitamins if you can, and rest!
  • You MFP folks are great! Thank you for the encouragement. For new runners, I probably should add that I skip a day between jogs to rest and recover and prevent injury. All the good advice is appreciated, it is another reason I love this site...you folks who are ahead, helping those of us coming behind you!
  • Just remember how long it took us to gain all this weight...it was NOT overnight....and it won't come off overnight. Persevere....remain steadfast...run! This is about changing our lifestyle...right? I am clinging to the evidence of my tape measure (2# off my hips-my largest part:laugh: ) and how I feel!
  • I might be too old for this group, 48 mother of 4, at least 30 to lose, just started "jogging" last week. I am a full-time mother, part-time nurse, part-time substitute teacher...and ready to get healthy the right way. I do not have any friends yet, but would love to encourage others and be encouraged! Please add me!
  • Thank you so much, that sounds like a great idea-I didn't realize how little protein i eat until I joined MFP! I am amazed how hard it is to get over 1200 cal in every day-good calories I mean.
  • You know, that is very sound advice! Being older, and not as fit, and with 4 children I am very cautious about protecting myself from injury. I am only racing myself, and pushing for my health!
  • Thank you so much for all your encouragement, and good advice-it is greatly appreciated! I never thought I would enjoy it, but there is something that makes you want to get out there again-isn't there? Maybe it is the challenge. Anyway....off I go..."Lord willing...and the creek don't rise!"
  • what is siracha? sp?
  • I agree with the above, I was eating WAY TOO FEW calories since January and only lost 4 pounds, and have recently set more realistic ones. I have lost inches-that is what I am tying my progress to-not the scale.
  • I suggest doing a search for the excel spreadsheet BMR, TDEE and it will give accurate macros.
  • I agree with this wholeheartedly! I have been "dieting and exercising" since Jan 09, 2012 and have been frustrated by slow weight loss, and not feeling very well. About 2 weeks ago I finally upped my calories to about 1600, because I had been consistently below 1000 to 1200, and no weight loss. I believe I was in a…
  • If you go to search on this site and type in excel spreadsheet for calculating BMR-TDEE you will see the link for a really neat sheet which I used to refine my goals for calories, etc. It will give you a breakdown of carbs, proteins and fats!
  • This is a great site, and thank you for all the great tips. No, besides strong calves from walking, I am really out of shape. I have a Y membership, so no excuse-right?! I will recalculate, and add some weights!
  • Thank you for the encouragement! No, I don't eat back my exercise calories, and to be honest, they aren't huge amounts when I walk even though we have a lot of hills. I probably need to try something like Jillian Michael's, is that a DVD? I have lost an inch off my hips-which frankly as a pear shape is not a bad…
  • I have never heard of negative calorie foods, however, you can improve the effect the carbs have on your blood glucose levels by paying attention to the combinations you eat. For instance, eating a carb combined with a protein (cheese and crackers, PB and crackers, hummus and carrots) will slow the absorption of the…
  • OK! Of all the reading I've done I've come to the conclusion that very restrictive carbs-like Atkins-can make you drop weight quicker-but as you get close to goal weight and keep up a good exercise routine I don't think that is practical to maintain. As you eat a balanced healthy diet (as every dietician who has counseled…
  • Thank you for all the replies-how encouraging! I did up my calories starting yesterday-and i feel better already! I was recommended to eat 1,400 and I was eating 1000 to 1200, sometimes as few as 800 and exercising.
  • Yum! Does anyone have a recipe for a low fat/cal peanut butter and chocolate treat? Is there any such thing?
  • Maybe you need to add some good carbs back into your diet ie whole grains, or fruits and make sure to pair your carbs with protein since that slows absorption of the carb and evens the effect on your blood sugar:smile:
  • Thank you for posting that-I just started my diet 3 weeks ago and really haven't lost any weight-and i have a preexisting Vit D deficiency. You have inspired me to start taking my injections of Vit D again! Thank you!
  • Hey, you know weight watchers allows any amount fresh fruits without costing points on their plan, so that tells me that fruits are probably a better source of sugar and that the extra fiber and nutrients in fresh fruits is important and that eating them has a better net effect on your metabolism. I am trying to limit my…
