Just read your reply - what a difference in your diet a pity you had to find out you had a problem by cracking rib, however some good things come from bad.

I worked as a primary teacher for 39 years and loved it. However 22 of these were in an area with many children with problems, both behavoural and academic and many of these had parents with the same problems so I understand where you are coming from.

What an interesting life you have led. I started out life as a trainee shorthand typist and hated the typing bit Got married and had children, however due to finances went back to work as a typist. However at aged 29 was given chance to go to college and train as a primary teacher, which I then did for 39 Years. Decided at…

Aiming for 40lbs in a year is good as it is under 1lb a week. However, I can understand that having a thyroid problem does not help as I have a daughter who has the same problem but is on medication and does find it difficult to lose the weight but nevertheless has managed 28lb over the last year and is keeping at it. So…

I only tend to do two forms of exercise, swimming and walking. I am 73 and find that these both help to keep my weight healthy. As I have a back problem I was advised years ago to swim in order to help and it certainly has. I can work in the garden for an hour or two and |I get no problems with my back.I have tried going…

You have taken the first step which is always the hardest, with the support of your family you will come through. Thank you for sharing your story as it must have been very difficult but sharing, hopefully will make the journey easier. Good Luck and God speed.

I make up my own porridge using the oats very easy to make in the microwave. I also use soya milk as this makes it creamy. Try adding fruit, or honey and nuts to make a change. I tend to eat this most mornings but also will occasionally have weetabix for a change.

Pleased to read this comment as the page always states if I am not eating all my calories, but I would find it difficult to do this at times. I also feel that I make up when I go out for a meal or indulge myself at times so it is swings and roundabouts.

The odd 'treat' of unhealthy food is not going to hurt him, just so long as you can get this through to your parents. Tell them that you will allow it on your terms, i.e. once a week/fortnight, whatever suits you and then they will be happy. Banning altogether may make your son think that it is 'naughty' and we all know…
