One tbsp crunchy peanut butter and two tbsp sugar-free blueberry or blackberry preserves, with about 1/3 cup of matching berries.

Ha! Reminds me of something similar about why there are so many "lottery winner" horror stories -- most jackpot winners prove to be poor money managers... which is the reason they were playing the game to begin with!

I think the winter months are harder. Something about the bear instinct, storing fat reserves for hibernation, etc. I exercise so I can eat more. I used to think that was weird. Food is extraordinarily powerful. You're not alone. I remember my Dad saying that even though he had given up cigarettes 20 years ago and hadn't…

Don't use MFP's "recommended levels" for anything. They are pretty arbitrary... the only one that matters for weight loss is the calories. Sodium is not a problem unless you have a medical issue (like hypertension) that requires you to regulate it. Drinking 10-16 cups of water a way will flush it all out anyway. Sugar is a…

I started the program in 2010 and got to my goal in 2011. I've maintained since then by keeping at the logging and exercise... I've been at my goal weight now for almost 2 years. Weekly. Eating more one day means I eat less another. I keep a spreadsheet of my weekly count (just sums up the daily totals from MFP). See this post: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/591066-weekly-calorie-spreadsheet

Just drink a gallon of water (or enhanced water) a day. It will flush any extra sodium out of your system.

I'm looking forward to trying your recipes! I generally go for convenience but of course making fresh stuff at home is so much better. You can get them from TFSupplements.com for less than $2/bar if you buy 12 at a time. True, they're "too tough" right out of the package,... but if you nuke one for 10 or so seconds before eating it you'll be happy.

Sky's the limit because oatmeal is a bland base, a blank canvas (like rice or pasta or quinoa) for a thousand works of art. For a sweet version I usually go for PB&J with appropriate berries (blueberries if I'm using blueberry preserves, for example). (But the peanut butter has to be super-crunchy to make me happy with it…

Sounds right. A deficit of 1000/day = 7000/week, 3500 calories = 1 lb. Your math is spot on. But the easiest way is just to let MFP do the math for you. Go through the guided "goals" steps. When you walk, put it in your exercise diary and let MFP "allow" you to eat more. Give it a few weeks and adjust as needed. The MAIN…

Female psychology. My wife lost 40 lbs and never felt like she was getting anywhere even though she dropped from 3x to XL clothes. Women's brains are just messed up when it comes to body image. Men's are too, but in a different way. The most famous illustration of how it works is this cartoon:

They're great! One of the few whey-isolate-only bars on the market.... most have whey concentrate, which gives me gas. One of the lowest calorie-per-protein bars you can get. The thing about these bars is you have to nuke 'em for about 8-12 seconds because they are fairly dense. The flavors are great. They're too expensive…
