There is nothing wrong with getting extra protein in powder form rather than from food. Someone mentioned Any Whey by Optimum Nutrition. This is one of the "unflavored" protein powders you can use for cooking. I use it cooked into oatmeal and grits for breakfast, or even dissolved in almond milk (for morning cereal) or…

I was running about two days a week when my knee started giving me hints... I decided to do biking exclusively for a month or so. When I went back to running, my knee was OK and it didn't take me long to get back in the groove.

I definitely lost mine!

Eating too much period is generally the issue. To lose weight, you need to eat at a calorie deficit. The good news is it doesn't matter where your calories come from... you could eat almost all of your calories in the form of protein and, as long as you are within your calorie budget, you will lose weight. There really is…

It can't be that hard to add a trend line to the existing MFP weight graph. No need to incorporate a whole proprietary spreadsheet for that. MFP's tools and graphs are just pathetic.
-
Keep a spreadsheet of your weight each Monday morning over a few months. You will see it bump up and down, up and down. Any decent spreadsheet will allow you to create a "trend line" from the raw data. Create one and as long as you are on plan it should show a downward trend. Do wish that MFP had such a simple feature in…

It's great and it works to build muscle, tone, and shape. Read the reviews on amazon. It's for men and women. I don't take the pills. I use MFP for my diet program, and use cheap protein shakes instead of their expensive "recovery drink".
-
Ignore the jokers above. Unfortunately you will need to accommodate family members who don't share your goals. I wish everyone had the support I have (my wife is on MFP with me, hurray!) but the sad fact is that only YOU can change YOU and you can't really count on anyone else, including close family members. Just be the…

You would set your "goals" in MFP to "Lightly Active" or "Active". That will increase the NEAT value that MFP uses to compute your daily calorie needs. NEAT is defined here: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=121703981 You don't want NEAT counted as EAT, so don't add your daily "normal" activity as exercise.

We tried the Shiritaki noodles and I can put up with them but my spouse can't. Google "Hungry Girlfredo" for a fun recipe using these noodles. HG had another great pasta swap -- broccoli slaw. Google "Slaw and Order" for her dish using these... I love it and it's SUPER cheap! If you simply can't give up that unique pasta…

Try pre-packaged "steam-able" vegetables that already include the sauce. If you like indian food, try the boxed veggies that already have the indian spices (brand names like Swad, MTR, Haldiram's, Ashoka, Tasty Bite, etc.)

Oops... the last phrase there is an epic fail. After 19 years you probably know better than to say or even think that. We're all subject to wishful thinking, though, eh? Triumph of hope over experience, etc., etc...

Working out will not induce weight loss. Only a calorie deficit induces weight loss. Diet is 90% (or more) of the solution. No matter how hard you work out, excessive calorie intake will overwhelm the exercise. It's a trusim that one hears often and should be taken to heart: "You can't out-exercise a bad diet." No "fat…

Glad to hear you aren't neglecting strength training... sorry if I was presumptuous. Whey protein + lifting will not automatically make you "bulk up". Bulking up is really hard. You would only get bulky if you were lifting 100+ pounds four days a week and shrinking your body fat down to 5 %. I don't know what protein…

I use the same brand, get it at WalMart like you It works for me if I mix it with a tablespoon of PB2 and a packet of splenda. But I have to shake shake shake it for about 2 or 3 minutes before most of the clumpiness is gone. As others suggested, mixing it with some other flavors can help. This morning I had a scoop of it…

That's cool. I need a better smart phone. Does the app's weekly numbers take into account your earned exercise calories? I'm thinking that my wife's iPhone app does not, which has always been another irritation. In the spreadsheet, I'm just entering the positive or negative number from the MFP food diary for the day, and…

Nothing to worry about. The limits for most of those things (like sodium) are somewhat arbitrary.

To many many many people (including a younger version of myself) the most distressing thing about the article is the last sentence: "You simply have to cut calories and be vigilant for the rest of your life."

Awesome! I thought I was the only one eating these things on a diet. You've gotta try MTR's Bhindi Masala! Also, check out the Colonel Kababz Chicken Tikka Masala -- in the frozen food section. The best version available!
