  • Big numbers are not possible for me - I'll be quite happy if I can lose a pound a week! :)
  • I have DVDs and I love them, they're lots of fun. I have the Total Body Transformation set which has an introductory workout to take you through all the steps, then other workouts of different lengths which is convenient. Haven't tried Wii, so I can't comment on that, but the DVDs are fun and give you a good workout.
  • Another to try: http://www.readyseteat.com/
  • I have a Conair Weight Watchers scale. I don't remember what I paid for it (it's been a few years) but at the time it was the only one in the store that went to 0.1 lb (most seemed to go to 0.2 lbs). I've had it for a few years now and have not had any problems with it - it seems to be pretty consistent.
  • It depends on what you like to do, but I agree Zumba is a lot of fun. You can search youtube for Zumba videos to get an idea. Personally, I would be alternating 30 day shred with non-strength training type workouts. Even going for a walk, doing some yoga - whatever you enjoy doing.
  • I used to be able to eat pretty much anything and not be bothered by it. I could bounce back and forth between healthy stuff and and fast food/processed foods and not notice much difference. I find that is changing over time. I don't know if it has to do with getting older, or the fact that I eat less and less of the…
  • There are so many different styles of yoga, and different instructors make such a difference too, that it can be hard to make recommendations. I started with a Kathy Smith video at home, attended some live classes with various instructors, and have grown my DVD collection quite a bit. I like Sarah Ivanhoe a lot, I find her…

  • I have Fit Flops and I love them because they are supportive and comfortable to wear. I can't say whether they actually tone the legs - I think you are better off actually exercising if you want to shape your legs - but as a comfortable shoe for walking, I feel they are worth it.
  • Agree with poster who said any exercise works as long as you do it. Zumba is lots of fun, which makes it easy to do. Not everyone likes choreographed cardio, but if you like dance you'd probably like zumba. If you search youtube you can find videos of people doing zumba - might give you an idea of what it's like.
  • I have an area set up in my basement with all my equipment, DVDs, etc. I think that you have to find some workouts that you like to do and make it a habit. It might take some trial and error to figure out what works for you, but you can do it! Before we bought our house I would have to exercise in the living room of our…
  • I have the total body transformation set and it's a lot of fun. For me the fun is the biggest selling point. I've been a fairly regular exerciser for a long time, but sometimes if I'm tired, stressed, busy it can be hard to talk myself into a workout. Zumba is a great workout and I look forward to doing it, and there are…
  • Most of the time right after work, thought I have done workouts later in the evening if that's the only time I can fit it in. Some people find that disrupts their sleep, but I don't have any problem with it. I tried morning workouts for a while, but I am not a morning person and it just made me cranky.
  • This happened to me on my very first mammogram - they called and wanted me to come back for more films. They had me wait on the second visit, and before I left they were able to tell me that everything was fine. It's hard not to stress about it, but hang in there and good luck!
  • The usual recommendation is not to go below 1200 calories per day. 1000 a day sounds low, especially if you are exercising at all.
  • Good for you! Keep it up!

  • Four pounds lost in a month is actually good - that's about a pound a week. Since your calories are set at 1200 I'd guess that you are petite and/or don't have a large amount of weight to lose? In either of those cases weight loss can be slow. However, if you are burning that many calories every day it wouldn't hurt to eat…
  • I would say you haven't found the right dress yet. Keep looking! You'll find a dress that makes you feel beautiful. :)
  • I like these - not necessarily low cal, but healthy ingredients: http://viveleveganrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/04/super-charge-me-cookies.html
  • If you have been finding that 1800 cals/day is working for you, then stick with it. I think the trick is to track honestly and watch your progress. Everyone is different, and, as others mentioned, that base calorie recommendation does not account for calories burned through exercise. You know your body best, do what's…
  • Hello all! I am still here - or I guess I should say I'm back. :) I was on vacation for the last two weeks of December and ended up getting the flu. We also went home to visit family for the holidays and we were a day late returning home due to bad weather. So it was not the most relaxing vacation and to be honest I'm not…
  • I am never able to lose 5 pounds in a month, even if I am doing everything perfectly. I think you just have to keep plugging away. Even if the losses are small, they add up eventually!
  • I live on the east coast of Canada and it's getting cold here (likely colder than Texas) and yes, I find it hard to get moving. Happens to me every year - the days get shorter, the temperatures drop, and all I want to do is curl up with a blanket. It's really hard to make myself change into workout clothes and get moving,…
  • Did you know that women lose bone density as they age? But strength training can help to prevent that, and even reverse it. Not to mention that increasing your lean muscle mass can boost your metabolism. There so many good reasons for strength training - for your overall health and for weight loss.
  • I think it depends on you, and maybe on the workout you are doing as well. I'd experiment a bit. If you eat too close to working out, it can upset your tummy. But first thing in the morning, you may need a little bit of fuel to get you going. I don't work out first thing in the morning these days, but back when I did I…
  • I hear ya on needing motivation and support - makes a huge difference! Congrats to you on what you have achieved so far.
  • For the most part I just just log my 'real' workouts. However, I work a desk job and I think it's good to get up and get out of the office once a day. This time of year, when it starts to get cold and snowy, I tend to be reluctant to go out so I started logging a short walk each time I do - I don't worry about timing it…
  • I was never overweight until I started working full time. It's been years and I haven't been able to lose weight even though I do exercise regularly. So I don't think it's quite that cut and dried.
  • I tend to have the same problem. Exercising regularly is no problem, but consistently logging and staying within my calorie range is tough. I don't know how much I can help, but at least you know you are not alone. :) I do find that planning ahead can help. If I plan out what I'm going to eat first thing in the morning, or…
  • I agree with starting out slow. As for what you should do I think the most important thing is to pick something that you will enjoy and stick with. Just get in the habit of adding activity to your day. I would also suggest educating yourself a bit, particularly about strength training, if all this is new to you. For…
