Icing after a run helps me. Also I have been told not to run every day esp. if you have shin splints. Walk instead of run to get moving and don't increase your distance more than 10% every week. *Tip for home made ice pack: add some rubbing alcohol to water in a zip top bag and freeze. It keeps it mold-able! :)
