I think that is a good plan jsunshine! :) YAY! One week down! 2 weeks will just make you stronger!

I would get a brace and gauge it carefully as you increase. That is how my knee problem started. It is such a problem! I need to lose weight for my knees, but it hurts my knees if I overdo exercise. I have lost 25 lbs and it has helped my knees a LOT!

People like her are annoying regardless of their size, but her inability to control her own weight makes her seem... well.. crazy! Naturally thin people that have never had to work their weight can be annoying with their advice too, they just can't understand. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope this post helps none of…

Thank you! I have always wanted to be a runner.... I guess according to John Bingham, a respected runner, I am. WOW!

When I went to an orthopedist for my knee, he said that shape-ups have caused many knee and back injuries. He recommended that I not try them.

That's great. I did Day 2 today, and I am also excited. I have wanted to be a jogger for so long!

Day 2 done! I am so excited it is going well for 2 whole days.:drinker: I did the same routine as Monday and it went well. My heart rate was about 150, my knee is holding up and I am even excited for Saturday's session!

I have gotten my feet specially fitted/measured on one of those stride pressure machines (I forget the trade name) and I am a Brooks girl. They work best for my stride and somewhat flat feet. Izumis have worked well for me before too. Try on a lot and jog around in them!

I think those numbers sound great. We should all differ a bit in our speeds, and we do.

45 minutes, that is awesome! It sounds like you had a great start.

Woo-Hoo! Day 1 went well. I did some stretches, then a 5 min warm up at 3.0 Then I alternated 1 min. jog and 1.5 min walk. I did 9 cycles of this, then walked until the end of my 30 minutes. I wrote on a Post-It what the numbers were to toggle between walking and jogging so I wouldn't have to keep track. The thing…

Thanks for including all the details! Being a newbie those are some of the hardest things to figure out. I will post my details tomorrow.

I have a lot of experience of being motivated, going too hard because I "should be able to", injuring myself and giving up. I am glad that you are wise enough to take it easy. Walking is a great exercise, and I have done it for many years. I am ready to try something new, and hopefully lose even more weight. Best of…

I have heard that treadmills have more give, so are good for your knees, but incredibly boring for some people. Next best is a running track (the cushioned kind), then dirt roads, then blacktop. Cement is the worst. A MAJOR thing for me is good shoes from a running store. I am a bargain shopper, so it took me a while to…

I have wanted to be a runner for a long time. I am a walker and have completed several races, including a half marathon. Not competitively, but for exercise. My concern is my knees. I have lost over 20 lbs, so I know that helps and I am bicycling to strengthen my knees. Still, I would love to become a jogger. I am going to…

I am not sure which picture you are referring to, but I have seen one with Marilyn, and some sex symbols from her era above a picture of some young thin models. Besides weight, there is another difference. Age. Maybe part of the problem is that we have let the media sexualize the teenage form. Our obsession with youth ties…

I wish Paula Deen all the best. I would keep my personal life to myself too. But, once SHE came out, she invited the public into her business. She got paid for it, and will deal with the consequences. I would rather she became open with it because of a sponsor opportunity then if someone else came out with it. If someone…

The thing that concerns me is that she does NOT want to alter her diet, but would rather take a prescription. BTW, EVERY drug has side affects. This is a dangerous lifestyle choice. High blood pressure? Eat all the salt you want, just take a pill. Cholesterol too high? Eat what you want, sit on the couch and take a pill.…

OOPS! Not sure how to work the quote option! Moderation is excellent, in all things. But I really set myself up for failure if I think I can be moderate with some of my favorite foods. It increases my cravings if I try to have a little, like half a donut or one chocolate chip cookie... it is better if I don't have any. I…

When I am really craving chocolate, I have mini bars of dark, barely sweetened chocolate. I let it melt in my mouth until it's gone. It satisfies my craving, but I don't like it enough to have to have more. Dove Dark works and so does Hershey's mini. They are only about 40 cal and dark chocolate (in moderation) actually…

I went to water Zumba. It is a great workout! Unfortunately, I was trapped in a meeting with lots of yummy food! I was doing well until the caramel corn. :( Tomorrow I will keep my calories under 1200 and will exercise after work.

I did my goals today: Keep calories under 1200, half hour on recumbent bike for knee rehab, 40 minutes of yoga for core strengthening. Yay! Tuesday: calories under 1200, water Zumba at 5:30.
