  • I wouldn't log 10 minutes of walking. But 10 minutes of moderate or high intensity cardio should be logged.
  • You don't have to worry about the catabolic effect of exercise unless you're already at a low body fat percentage. Unless you're already at a low body fat percentage, you will be putting on muscle and burning fat at the same time. MFP tells me to eat 1850 calories a day. I do anywhere between 1500 and 1950 and work out as…
  • I don't cheat. However, if I do go slightly above my calorie goal, I will do some extra cardio that day or the next. I don't starve myself either. Better to go slightly above your calorie goal than to fall asleep hungry, wake up at 3am and have a bunch of cookies. Foods like bananas, greek yogurt and whole grain bread w/…

  • Good point - but she should still try to avoid simple sugars!
  • If I have dinner early (before 7:30PM) - I make sure to save extra calories and then have a banana and / or greek yogurt before sleep. Try to avoid simple sugars before sleep. They give you an energy boost that will make it harder to fall asleep and will also be stored by your body as fat because of inactivity.
  • Pasta, potatoes and baguette. And on the non-food side: cigarettes (though I'm moving to the e-cig now) and wine (yes, I'm French)
  • I use Optimum Whey 100% Natural - Natural vanilla. It's OK

  • Haven't gotten very far yet, but I have put on a lot of strength and endurance. But started at 215lbs pre Jan 2012 - Jeans size 36/38 waist Now around 196lbs - March 15th 2012 (25th birthday!) - Jeans size 33 waist

  • Your vegetable and fruit intake is low. Try replacing your protein bar snacks with fruits. Fructose is sugar but it is much healthier than the dextrose other bad sugars they have in protein bars and shakes. I eat a lot of bananas because they make me feel full and are relatively low cal. A good breakfast, for example is a…
  • Few times a week at the gym. Especially after working hard. Helps me keep track of errors in my diet. Ie: Wednesday night, I drank a couple beers and when I weighed in on Thursday, I had increased by 1.5lbs from Tuesday. My personal trainer guessed that I had had booze without water which was the case. I know learned that…
  • I don't use a pedometer and don't include any walking under 30 min (like when I take dog out). I figure that goes into my basal metabolic rate. I also don't measure cals burned during my 3 x 1 hours sessions weight training (with fitness coach). Weekly Goal: 3500 Mon: 704 (bike medium to intense + treadmill 6.5mpg total…

  • I'll agree with that. The most important thing is to break a sweat everyday and for a decent amount of time. What I was getting at is that there are no shortcuts... At some point, you gotta start hitting cardio hard. I personally hate running outside but I know it's the only way that I'll burn large amounts of calories/fat.
  • It's probably more fun; but nothing can replace real cardio and endurance that you get from the treadmill or better yet; running outside. Here's something that you can also do from home: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YnqibvUD14
