I have a stainless steel WMF one, which I bought on sale and it is excellent. It is brilliant for cooking chickpeas, which take forever otherwise. I cook large quantities of chana dall and freeze it. Thanks for the earlier link, I'll give it a look.

Thank you!

So true. This myth of breakfast has caused me so much angst and pain over the years. I've been so much healthier and happier (and slimmer) since I stopped listening to this type of rubbish.

Well done. Another C25K convert here. Running my first 10K in a couple of weeks. It does get quite addictive!

I'm 53, and in a lot better shape than when I first joined my gym :-) Mine also has a 12 month contract, but it suits me and I've been a member there now for several years. If you like it, and use it enough then the contract can suit. My son uses Pure gym and that is only a month's contract, I think. N.B. That is in the…

Great to see similar body sizes and height to me eating at what I would see as a manageable maintenance level. I only have around 7 lb to go to reach my final goal and eating 1350 + exercise cals to lose a half pound a week. It will be nice to up it gradually when I get there!
-
Oh, and I wear Aldi winter running stuff as it was on sale a few weeks ago. It's great, but I'm in the UK so I don't know whether you can get that?
-
Maybe he is running because he likes it? I didn't start running to lose weight, more to tone and get fitter. To suggest someone shouldn't exercise until they have lost weight is just wrong on so many levels.
-
I'd agree with that for some, but MFP has me as burning 550 cals for an hours Combat whereas my HRM calcs between 450-500. I do go flat out at that exercise, and couldn't do any more. My runs are likewise around 10-20% higher on MFP to that logged by my HRM. Although both are only estimates, I'd expect the HRM to be closer…

Good luck with that! I am doing my first ever 10K race in December and want to run a HM next year sometime. I don't have any desire whatsoever to run a marathon myself, but kudos for going for it.

A Garmin with a hrm should be more accurate than a fitbit? I have a Polar hrm, and use just under 10 cals per minute for a 5km run at around 31mins. I'm 69kg, and 5'3", so for me that Garmin estimate wouldn't be far out. The MFP ones over-estimate, IME.

I also prefer running outside. My physio suggested that treadmill running was aggravating a calf injury, so I moved outside and now wouldn't go back unless absolutely necessary. It doesn't matter what I like though: it's what YOU like.

I've been doing Combat for around ten years now, and absolutely love it. The instructor makes a difference though: I am lucky to have very good ones. I also like Balance, but not Pump as I find that a bit too repetitive.

Me too. Started the C25K last April and now can't imagine not running. I used to think the C25K was 25km, which put me off for a long, long time...

Two weeks isn't long: I've had stalls for 4-6 weeks and then dropped.

I also used the free NHS app. The music wasn't to my taste but the plan certainly worked. http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx

Thanks everybody for the replies and links. I was keeping an open mind, and the PT was very good. He introduced me to kettlebells and some of the basic machines, and suggested a re-assessment in a few weeks. I'll see how it goes. Thanks again.

The MFP approach has worked for me. My Polar FT4 shows my cardio burned cals at around 20-30% less than the MFP estimates, and I figure the Polar is more reliable. Based on this I normally cut back the non-cardio exercise that MFP calculates to around 75% of their figures. I eat back 50% of my exercise to err on the side…

Anyone who got annoyed reading this article should install this add-on for FF. It is much better for your mental wellbeing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/kitten-block/

I started the C25K in the spring with a goal of running a 5K Race For Life. It has been very surprisingly addictive and I can run 10K now. Saturday mornings are busy for me, so no Park Runs :-(

I scan food when it's packaged, e.g. pre-packed sandwiches from a supermarket, or a ready meal. If I'm out at a restaurant then some will have the cals on the menu and I'll log those. MFP has some chain restaurant meals in its database which you can use. If you eat at a friends then you'll just have to estimate, and…

I am lucky to have a disused railway track nearby that has been converted to a nature walkway. It is away from traffic, peaceful and nice and flat. I am not good at running hills. I've just got back and ready for my breakfast :-)

I started running for the first time since school with the C25K in April and ran my first 5K in the summer. I started off on a treadmill but had a minor calf injury and was advised by the physio that outside was better for my body. I got hooked on running outside and did my second 10K last Sunday. I'm off out again…

Someone recommended some books on this thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1423870-will-i-ever-stop-obsessing-over-food?page=1#posts-21393528 I seconded the Beck Diet Solution as it has helped me tremendously. I know it won't work for everyone and you have to really be in the right place and the right mood to…

I wish I'd taken photos along the way. When I see the ones on the success story board I find it quite inspirational.

I've been going to my gym for over ten years now and seen all ages, shapes and sizes. Turning it around, how would *you* feel if you saw someone bigger than you there? Would it bother you, because it shouldn't! I was a spectator at a sprint triathlon on Sunday and there were all types of sizes there. I find it quite…

Me too. I started the C25K in April and ran my second 10K yesterday. It is surprisingly addictive. My bum hurts today, but in a good way :-)

I'm early 50s, 5'3" and was around 200lb at my heaviest a couple of years back. It has never stopped me exercising, even though I do get the odd ache and pain. Do what you enjoy and don't wait until you've lost weight to start exercising. This is self defeating and there is no reason why you shouldn't do some exercise.…

Same with me. If I eat too much, too soon before an intense cardio session I just feel really bad.

I saw a physio recently about a calf injury and he said the same thing. I switched to running outside and would be loathe to go back to a treadmill now.
