If you haven't been running, starting out in the bitter cold will do a number on your legs. It's safe to run in that weather but as cedder1 said, layer layer layer.

Easy, run...a lot. I ran 7.5 miles this morning, took about an hour & 10 minutes, burned 1,133 calories. Ta-da!

Maintain your base, incorporate some speed workouts then ramp back up a few weeks before.

I ran my first half off of Higdon's Intermediate program but I had a pretty good base built up before I started it. Everyone on here that has recommended a long, SLOW increase in mileage is correct. I ran M-T-W-TH-S, still do. Workout 3 times a week at the gym lifting. If you want to train for a half I would forget other…
