I gauge mine by using my scale at home, and putting those results against the Omron Body Fat Calculator device that the nutritionists at work use. As I start to see the cellulite on my legs disappear, I am a believer.

Been Primal for nearly 7 months now. Feel free to add me.

When I was losing consistently for a few weeks, I noticed it was because I only had fruit a few times a week, and I hadn't purchased (or consumed) any cheese. So yeah, if you crave it, give it up and see after a few weeks if you still crave it the way you did, and if you notice a difference in your weight loss. As I get…

1. Expect a carb flu. Be prepared for it and don't give in to your cravings. 2. Set your macronutrients to match the Paleo/Primal way (mine are 60/25/15 f/p/c) but standard is something like 60/20/20. 3. Buy snacks because you'll need them for those desperate times in between meals when first starting out (beef jerky,…

Gotcha! Thanks! Are they less sweet than bananas? The banana sweetness is too much for me sometimes (changed perception to sweetness thanks for Paleo).
-
That's a very interesting read. I'm going to have to go get some bananas now. I didn't realize they were "glucose bombs". I'm going to follow this blog now because of my thyroid issues. I've been keeping my carbs really low, but I worry about my T4 to T3 conversion, especially since I found out that acne is a direct result…

I occasionally will eat white potatoes but no rice, as it really has no taste for me. Perhaps I'll try rice again when I've lost some more. When I do eat potatoes, I only eat about 1/4-1/2 cup max because sweet and white potatoes give me gas, but they don't affect my loss in any way. I must avoid all the non-Paleo type of…

I can't find Kerrygold butter, so I use a grass fed, pastured butter from Woodstock Farms that I purchase at Sunflower Market. It's about $5 for a 4-stick pack and so worth it. It tastes delicious. I don't think the brand matters so much as the quality of the butter. It should be pastured, grass fed, organic, etc. It's…

No, it's not about the taste, it's about the body's reaction to it. Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) are excellent sources of fat and optimal for their thermogenic effect, increasing metabolism when it comes to burning fat. The thermogenic effect of the MCT plus the butter (pure fat) assists with weight loss, ensuring the…

I brew it as 2 full cups of Americano (Espresso brewed in my drip coffee pot), 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil, and 2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter. I'm thinking about getting some pure MCT oil instead of the Coconut oil, as the Bulletproof Exec says that it takes 6 Tbsps of coconut oil to equal one Tbsp of MCT oil. Coconut oil is an MCT, and…

I do 60% fat, 25% protein and 15% carbs. As long as my carb intake is around 60 for the day, with no more than 20-25 grams of sugar (fruit), I'm good to go. I eat avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, and ghee by the bucket. When I'm not working out, I do a minimum amount of protein, usually around 85 grams of protein. When I…

Just my experience but mine have been regular for years, down to the day typically. When starting Primal, I noticed no difference except less bloating around that time, and fewer PMS symptoms leading up to it.

Perfectly normal. It's called the carb flu. Here is a timeline of how you're going to feel initially (http://whole9life.com/2012/06/the-whole30-timeline/). Everybody in this group that has done this longer than 3 weeks knows what it's like. Take the time to sleep, eat lots of fat (and extra fruit if you need to eat…

Yes, agreed. Primal is easier for me too. I can try Paleo but I love dairy too much.

Read more about it, don't let the idea go and don't let other people talk you out of it because I guarantee they haven't given it a real chance. Read the research, the science behind it and the see the results for yourself. My results - I lost all of my weight (39 lbs), decreased my overall cholesterol, and reduced my…

My kids are 8, 9, and 10 by the way, not teenagers, but they all eat Primal/Paleo just like me for the most part.

Thanks! It's the most hardcore program I've ever done, besides Boot Camp when I was enlisted. It kicks my *kitten* every day and I love to wake up sore because why waste my time if I"m not working out for real. I always tell my kids to "Go Hard or Go Home!" when they're doing MMA (grappling, boxing, kickboxing, and bag…

Yes, I guess I really need to rethink some things as far as weight and muscle mass go. I want to look like her, lean and mean. I'm putting my scale up in the closet starting today.

Zellagrrl, what do liothyronine and selenium do for you?

Awesome! Thank you everybody for your insight and answers. Although it was a small gain, the information regarding the tiny tears, water retention, and muscle rebuilding makes so much sense. I'll keep on doing what I'm doing, especially regarding how it affects me overall :) I just wanted to be sure I wasn't counteracting…

I have Hashimoto's and I must agree that Paleo/Primal is excellent for people with autoimmune diseases, especially thyroid. Since I have dropped some weight due to Primal/Paleo, I have decreased my dosage and I believe it'll be decreased again later this month. I'm not sure if it will necessarily heal my thyroid issues…

I was having a really hard time with weekends, until I figured out that was my weakness. On Friday night, I'd go and have a beer or two with friends, and of course, I'd have awful foods with it because that's really all they serve at bars. By the time Sunday night rolled around, I was bloated and regretful from weekend…

The biggest help for me the first few weeks was fruit and cheese, especially at night. I thought I would use the almond flour more than I actually did. I have a friend who used it a lot and didn't lose as much weight, probably because she was using too much, frying it up with olive oil (oxidizing fat not good for cooking…

Really, it's simply a lot easier to drop fat when one approaches Primal with 3 full weeks of strict adherence. There is a shift that happens at 3 weeks, once all of the glycogen reserves are used up, where the body starts burning saturated fats as it's energy source. The 80/20 rule is for the rest of one's life IMO, with…

I think this way of thinking is a lot easier than figuring out the math. When I first started, I was trying to figure all of this out too. I questioned everything about Primal/Paleo including my macronutrients but it shouldn't really be that hard. What I did initially is count how many meals and snacks I would be eating…

I second the Paleo/Primal idea over Atkins. It's not considered low carb, because not all carbs are created equal, and is for overall health, not just weight loss.
-
I typically eat between 1200-1500 everyday. I'm not really working out right now, but when I do, I'll up my calories to match accordingly. My diet is different than most though.

<3 this! New motto: All signs of awesome point to me :)

Nothing you can really do about carb flu except to be strong, not give in, and know it gets better. The first week I switched to Primal, I ate fruit to help me cope with not getting a lot of pasta/grainy carbs. Also, lots of water helps.
