Glad this topic came up. I just finished my longest today, heading into taper now with 17 days to go.

Absolutely. Many people (myself included) feel that diet is more responsible for weight loss than exercise is.

Low maintenance to me doesn't equal skimping on anything they want to do to feel better about themselves. To me, it's being able to be their own woman and having enough confidence to be able to find their own happiness outside of a relationship. There are many relationships where one participant (men too, I'm not being…

I haven't run a 26.2 yet, working towards my first on 10/12, so I'm not an expert by any means. That being said, honestly, pretty much every training plan I looked at prior to starting training for my 1st full focused not only on a long, but total miles per week as well. Everything I've read is that while the long run is a…

C'mon, someone throw me a bone here - tell me I won't get all elderly and slow for a while!

5Ks are run by the widest variety of runners, so you'll probably get a wide variety of answers. People running their first could be anywhere from 30-40, those training more often could be mid-upper 20s, more serious people in lower 20s, with the real fast people in the mid-upper teens. I'm generalizing, of course, but the…

HM on 9/21 - 1:42:16. PR by ~3 mins but I've got a lot further to go.

Nerds are the new cool kids. Especially ones that exercise.

Stand by, I gotta get my daisy dukes on.

Pics of this alleged 'once a great *kitten*-et' please, let the masses decide :) My legs have dropped a bunch of inches. Not that I'm complaining, they were like fat little tree stumps previously. Embrace the side effect I suppose, it's a sign you're a badass runner.

Bad scheduling, I have to fly out of there right after the finish, drive 1+ hours home for a family thing. Otherwise I would do exactly that. I'm thinking I'll have to pick up the remaining 9 later in the afternoon. I hate to break up the long though, so I'm thinking I might do it on Tues or Wed, though that's cutting into…

I had one taken off the small of my back. Couldn't tell you if it left a scar. Turns out it was atypical (moderate dysplasia) so I'm not losing any sleep about it being gone.
-
...you're so focused on training for your first marathon that you completely forgot about the half that is coming up tomorrow. And you're trying to figure out how to make it and your 22 mile long (which happens the day after the race) fit together schedule wise. True story.

to not be able to pinch an inch anywhere on the midsection.

Perhaps you missed the "This is not an I am an alcoholic group" disclaimer by the OP.

It's not like I'm a face-down-in-the-gutter drunk, I usually have a six-pack of craft beers a week. That being said, I'm curious to see if it'll make a difference. I'm in. Plus it gives me some time to clear out the stock I have in the fridge.

It's an acquired taste. I'd recommend starting with a entree with a moderate-to-heavy seasoning and/or sauce that you like, so the salmon taste isn't quite so overpowering. Gradually, go with entrees with less aggressive toppings, until you end up liking a simple grilled or broiled steak.

Most roads have better base layers than sidewalks, and generally are much less uneven due to heaving/settling than the sidewalk.

My parents (who are morbidly obese) look at me at a normal weight and say the same stuff. It drives me crazy.
-
I saw a picture of myself from behind, and wondered "Who is that robust guy?". I use my morbidly obese parents as anti-motivation, so to speak. If I'm not vigilant, I could turn into my father's horrible physical shape and bad eating habits.

I'm almost ready to try this. I wouldn't call what I do boozing by any means. I do like really hoppy IPA craft beers though and will have a six pack a week (assuming they fit into my calories), but I've got a stubborn ~10 lbs and no abs, and want to see if it really does make a difference.

Exercise. It does wonders. Also maybe try venting into a journal.

I'm lucky where I'm able to slip out of the office for as long as 2 hrs without any real fuss. I personally feel it would be ok to break up a mid-distance into two shorter ones, as long as you're not sacrificing your long. That being said, I'd try to get the two pieces of the broken-up mid distance done as close to each…

I'm going to start following these as well. I actually wish I had chronicled my own humble beginnings of not being able to do 1 mile to where I am now.

I've been fighting with this for the past few weeks. My first 26.2 is coming up on 10/06 and I'm in the midst of the long run weeks. I'm so competitive with myself that I have a tough time letting myself run "easy" - I feel if I'm not at 8min/miles with every run, then I'm not pushing it enough. Today I had an 11 that I…

Prior to marathon training (where I've been taking 2 days off per week), there were several stretches where I'd go as many as 10+ days without a rest. It really depends on feel. I wouldn't recommend doing this right off the bat, but gradually add in a days and let yourself adapt. I would also recommend varying the pace,…

I fight with this as well. I've really gotten into some higher calorie craft beers; specifically IPAs which can run 250+. As long as it fits into the daily calorie count, I limit myself to one and savor it.
