  • we pierced my daughters ears at 6 months on the recommendation of my sister in law who is an RN. when they are little like that, they are less likely to touch and play with them and less prone to infection. however, my daughter is now 6 and it's a struggle to get her to wear them. :ohwell:
  • I don't count the occasional hershey kiss my son gets when we have a similar celebration. :)
  • have you considered co-sleeping every now and again? first of all, let me state that I am NOT an attachment parent (not that there is anything wrong with that). but my son was the same way with the pacifier. and for the record at 2 1/2 he still won't give it up. he calls it his neemer and it is his best buddy. :) at any…
  • like others said - depends on if you are nursing. if you are, you may just need to up your calories (although, I didn't look at your log to see how many you are eating now). If you aren't nursing, b12 is good. you may also be a little iron deficient. try eating some raisins, spinach or lean beef. my baby, now 2 1/2, didn't…
  • punchline - do what works for you. ignore the haters. if you are a gym rat - you are going to need more calories. if you are like me and work a desk job, have two small children and a husband who travels for work and are lucky to get to the gym twice a week, 1200 will probably work for you. if you have questions, visit…
  • Exercise, healthy diet. But do NOT diet. A low glycemic diet would be ok - I had gestational diabetes with my second. The low glycemic diet helped me to keep my blood sugar in check and to not gain any weight while pregnant. But you should only do that if your doctor recommends you not gain. Baby needs you to think about…
  • That's what a loaf of the 'healthiest' grocery store breads go for...
  • oh, and the dollar stores for your toiletries, paper towels, etc. i just discovered this little bit of knowledge and save tons on my cleaning supplies - this coming from a die hard Target shopper. i've just had to rethink where i shop. oh, and meals like stuffed peppers - green peppers aren't expensive. use brown rice.…
  • Aldi and other discount stores are great. I'm in Iowa and we have a chain called Fareway. Not as pretty when you walk in, but it's got the same stuff and averages about 25% less than the other grocery chains in my area. I agree coupons (in our house) are worthless because it's pre-packaged food. Watch for sales on chicken…
  • These, but be sure to follow it with an ultimatum - you know - your mom or me.
  • i have used some supplements with few results. however, in the past, i went to my doctor who prescribed a 3 month cycle of Phentermine. i had to have my blood pressure checked weekly, but it was great for jump starting my diet. if you see it as a short-term tool to help get you kick started, it can be useful. if you think…

  • let us know how that turns out. i'm curious for future reference. i'm more inclined to take the advice from 2 or more people. :)
  • great work! i can't wait until i can post some pics!
  • i'll also note that the mio/crystal light, etc. helps curb my sweet tooth. it gives me a little satisfaction and keeps me away from other things that would be far worse.
  • i do the flavored water from time to time. artificial i know and people will rant about that, but it helps. i like the mio. i also like to put a cucumber slice in my water. i hate cucumbers on their own, but something about adding it to water is very refreshing.
  • 1250 a day??!!! Dude - you need to bump that up to something like 2500 a day. Except on opposite days when you should keep it under 200 calories. Do you even know what your TDEE is? You totally need to check out the Paleo diet. Except on opposite days, when your 200 calories should come in the form of Oreos and some…
  • My son is Max. I also like Aiden, Jackson, Theodore (Theo), Oliver (Ollie), Connor, Albert, and Francis (Frank). My daughter is Shea Frances and we call her 'Frank'. :) Good luck!!!
  • welcome! what i've learned thru the use of this site is that i can fail. and sometimes, i'll fall off the bandwagon for a month. but i keep coming back. there's lots of great support on here. and if you have a bad day or 2 or 30 - it's ok. it's not a reflection on your ability to succeed. just don't give up. you can do it.…
  • i drink at least 120 oz a day. i have my stainless steel insulated water bottle and i keep it with me at all times. i'm perpetually thirsty though. i always have been. they tested me for diabetes when i was 15 because i drank so much. lots of ice and the occasional lemon or lime wedge, cucumber slice and OCCASIONALLY a…
  • ^^^^^ this. i left my first husband because he treated me this way as well. it eventually escalated to physical abuse and infidelity. i finally had enough and left. i was fortunate that we didn't have kids together, but i did major in sociology and i do recall that the stats favored the kids whose parents split up when…
  • my doc advised me not to eat fruit. but i love it and it helps satisfy my sweet tooth. i try to pair it with a piece of string cheese, cottage cheese or other protein to keep my blood sugar levels consistent. (i'm not diabetic, but i'm interested in glycemic responses, etc.) i don't go overkill on it, but i usually eat 1/2…
  • i was 31 with my first and almost 35 with my second. My husband was 40 with the first and 44 with the second. i am so GLAD i waited. i was able to travel abroad and really figure out who i was before being tied down with kids. hindsight, i might have even waited a few more years so hubby and i could have had more time just…
  • Good ideas. I could do the treadmill at the gym (we do have a membership), but I'd like it to be a way to get my kids outdoors too. They sleep so much better when they've had plenty of fresh air. We have a high school track not too far from us that has a public pool nearby. At least for the summer, maybe it could be, let…
  • This would be my 5 year old. Or she would take off. I'd prefer to have her on foot so she can't escape. :)
  • great idea! lots of high schools. i'm sure we could make that work.
  • agree with other posters - it's all in the approach. if you are kind about it "hey, workin' hard...i'm a student in exercise science and i noticed you workin' hard. do you mind a little advice on your form?" is better than, "hey, nice burn. you're doing those wrong and you're gonna get hurt." then they have the opportunity…
  • good advice - depends relationship by relationship. my hubby has met my male friends - he knows them. but i wouldn't dream of inviting one of them to my house without my husband home and i wouldn't go to one of their houses without my husband or their wife present. it's just the mature thing to do. and my husband travels…
