  • great work for 6 weeks time! i've been at this a year and still trying to find my stride, so kudos to you!!!!
  • thanks for all the great suggestions! I guess I won't sweat going over a little. I am a reformed 1000 - 1200 calorie a day person. I just got tired of being hungry all the time. so going to 1500 was HUGE for me - you can imagine that going over 1500 feels like a complete failure. but that's my mental stuff I need to work…

  • i can't say that i had an issue on too many rides. At a size 18, it could be a squeeze on some of the older coasters if you share a seat with someone. but as far as belts and bars, nothing that a little sucking in couldn't handle. you'll be fine! enjoy yourself!! :) sounds like you've come a long way!!
  • ^^^ This. I have a friend who is a professional ballerina and the women in her company are all at least 5'10. You put that height requirement on women and they are going to have longer muscles - hence the longer, leaner look. it's genetic and a matter of what body composition/body type you were blessed with. at my fittest…
  • bump - my kids might actually eat this.
  • For just eating on their own - Honeycrisp and Ambrosia in the fall/winter and Fuji all other times. For salads - Granny Smith.
  • we go to our local YMCA - we have several branches in our city. the branch that we go to has free childcare (up to 2 hours) if you have a family membership - which also gets us discounts on swim lessons, etc. i will say the hardest part for me has been the guilt of taking my kids straight from school and daycare right into…
  • i brown my stew meat - only doing about 1/2 lb at a time - so they are in a single layer and not crowded so they actually brown. i recommend using a cast iron skillet or stainless steel. get them good and brown on each side. set first batch aside and move on to the second batch, etc. once all are browned & have a nice…
  • This is me to a 't'. I'm a perfectionist and when I finally gave myself permission to 'fail' -- meaning not doing it 'perfectly' as i had defined - i stopped 'failing' and ending up in a cycle of self sabotaging binge behavior. i am better off with try. i get the premise of what you are saying and i agree the SMART goals…
  • my daughter has really curly hair and i put several braids in it to encourage the wave.
  • EAS Lean 100 - 100 cals. Low carb (designed for diabetics). I use the powder, but their pre-mixed drinks are good too. And you can find at target and walgreens at a decent price.
  • I recommend reading Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss. It's basically an inside look into the food industry and how they have taken these things to manipulate us into desiring more. When I learned that Coca-Cola referred to people like me as "heavy users" it pissed me off so much, I gave up diet coke. If nothing else, it…
  • it can be bad on your kidneys and liver. but most people don't consume enough to encounter this.
  • High intensity workouts... http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/Exercise-Metabolism-Energy/a/Does-The-Fat-Burning-Zone-Burn-Fat-Faster.htm
  • D&G Light Blue. Love it.
  • This too ^^^^. I also meditate and find that I do get the 'runner's high' after high intensity cardio. it feels so good!
  • I also suffer. Exercise at home. You can buy the video/dvd/blueray or find some on Pinterest or youtube. It does help. As do proper medications if you are a chronic sufferer as I am. Also, consider investing in a 'happy light'. $60 - 70 US and they help during those gloomy months. motivation can be hard to summon for me…
  • Never tried one. Love mint, but never had the desire to try it...
  • Corn fed Iowan here.
  • I do mine via Turbo Tax as well. We have tons of deductions as my husband has un-reimbursed travel expenses for work; kids; childcare; mortgage; student loans; charitable contribs. But it's still a breeze if you have all your supporting docs. Takes me about 2-3 hours to complete. I also opt for the audit protection because…
  • hands down, one of the BEST success stories I've seen on here. you are doing great and actually inspire me!
  • brown one slice of bacon in a large pot. remove bacon. add 1 chopped onion to bacon drippings and sautee for a minute or so. add cabbage (1/2 - 1 whole head as it cooks down a lot) and cook over very low heat for a few minutes. add about 1/2 cup water, salt, pepper and/or lawry's seasoning salt to taste. cook down until…
  • i live in iowa and i can attest to the factory farms. but even if you put the treatment of animals aside, factory farms are devastating for local economies, they drive family farmers off their land, owners are absentee and do not invest in the communities, surrounding homes see their property values plummet by 50% or more…
  • This explains mine perfectly. It was difficult to breathe, had pain in my chest and it radiated to my shoulder blades. The night I was diagnosed, I woke up around 1 AM thinking I was having a heart attack. My husband was working 1,500 miles away and I had to call my sister and her hubby to come watch my 1 year old and have…
  • I had mine removed. I had stones. gall bladder attacks were the worst pain of my life -- which includes a torn ACL and ACL reconstruction plus knee rehab and two c-sections. pregnancy can cause stones - which is why women are slightly more prone to them. sounds like they aren't ready to take yours out yet? i was so glad to…
  • our Y has childcare available while we workout. we also frequently, after our workouts, take the kids to swim in the pool. i am an american, yet i cannot believe how we will tolerate violence, etc. on television, but see a naked *kitten* and OMG, the world is gonna end. jesus. it's not as though there are sexual acts going…
  • This ^^^^ . I have a six year old daughter and if she's at the Y with her dad, they try to use the family locker rooms, but they are often occupied by self conscious singles who prefer to drop a deuce in private. Pisses me the hell off. But at any rate, I'm by no means a nudist, but I also don't view nudity as a bad thing.…
  • and congrats on giving up the grits! not easy, i know!
  • with *only* 30 to lose (i know, it's still gonna take some work), but if you add some exercise and shoot for a pound a week, you can up your calories for sure. this is a handy calculator too. it also gives you the option of how quickly you want to lose.... http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/calories-required/
