I work out in the morning. I go to bed ~ 10:30 and get up at 4:30 a.m. Brush teeth, get in workout clothes, get to gym ~ 4:50. The sign says they open at 5:00 a.m. but they're cool enough to open it a little early. I do 60 min of weight training and 30 minutes of cardio and I'm outta there by 6:30. I've got my full workout…

I had to get a 18 34/35 Slim Fit dress shirt altered - in the good way! Working out has always kept me in an 18" neck, I have broad shoulders but as my waist has kept getting smaller even a slim fit looks ridiculous. Once I get into a neck size that fits, I have 4" of underarm sail all bunched up into my belt. I got 2"…

I didn't throw a lot of it away - but I chuckled at it when I got some of it back out. "Sure this fits....but I'm not wearing it." Cheap slacks from the beginning of my professional career, jeans that are outdated, shirts that just aren't my style anymore. Here's are the ways I justify buying new clothes. 1. I'm already…

I did 9.6 miles on my bike last night 5 miles of which was through the woods on moutain biking trails. Zero leg pain this morning! All this running and legwork in the gym is paying off!

Now this is the only lunacy in here. Drink Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi...whatever's on sale?!?! Declare your allegiance heretic! One cannot simply switch back and forth - and don't decide to be one of "those" Diet Pepsi people.

Yes and no. One of my favorite features of MFP is the ability to copy meals. Say what you will about my habits but M-F I eat the same 4 meals (breakfast, 9:30 a.m., lunch, 2:30 p.m.) every day. That makes for easy planning. I cook a bunch of chicken and brown rice on Sundays and pack it in individual containers, slicing…

Your calves are some of the most resilient muscles in your whole body as they have to carry your body weight all day every day. To anyone trying to develop LARGER calf muscles they require significant weight resistance training simply BECAUSE they work so hard in regular life. You won't do any harm walking with sore…

I buy Costco's egg whites but I also buy their chicken breasts every week. It's a 6 lb (give or take) Purdue pack of 6 individually vacuum sealed pouches - with 2 breasts each making them rougly 8 oz breasts. At $2.99/lb every day I can't find anyone in town that beats it. Whenever grocery stores do beat it it's with some…

That's not the same thing at all. I use straps too. I couldn't care less how strong my grip is. I don't plan on any rock climbing or becoming the next American Ninja Warrior. I do care about 345 lb deadlifts. My grip gives out well before my back does. Having stronger fingers and forearms in no way actually impacts my…

A small thing I have started doing is using the stairs instead of an elevator for anything less than 5 floors. That includes work, hotels, parking garages, etc. Sure I really knuckled down in the gym and the kitchen, but you asked about small differences. I figured, you count all your calories, kill it in the gym, then…

What?!?!?! Don't give people fake scientific sounding advice. The water molecule is broken??? Then it's not water. The fact is every single liquid you drink has water in it. A bottle of 100 proof whiskey has water in it. It started life as 200 proof whiskey and then was diluted with water (pure, good old fashioned unbroken…

235 down to 195 - around 12% BF currently. I ate roughly 200g of protein/day throughout the loss process and I continue to. Learn to love Costco (or Sam's or whatever). Egg whites by the carton and $2.99/ lb Perdue chicken breasts enter the cart weekly. I grill up 4-5 lbs of chicken breast every Sunday and make 5 cups of…

In your case you could do your small part to break the stereotype that the scale matters. Tell them "no, haven't lost an ounce but I've gone down two dress sizes by really focusing on my fitness."

I read this whole post wondering the same thing. Do I have a decent pace? So it seemes it's time to toot my own horn a bit - I run a 8:15 mile. That works out to 7.2mph. I've been frustrated with it lately, at the end of every run I've been trying to shave time and I come in within 10-20s of my previous time for a 2 mile…

Double your Craigslist usage - sell that dust collecting stationary bike on there and then use that to finance your Craigslist bike purchase.

I wouldn't chalk it up to age. Granted - I'm "only" 35, almost 36 but I have worked out for years with competitive natural bodybuilders in their 50's who don't find age to be as big a problem as you're having. What I'd advise is to move your deadlifts to your back day. I have never done so many big lifts in one day - I…

Neither is "wrong". I often vary grips to change up the focus area of a particular exercise. For example I do a wide grip, standard grip, and very narrow grip barbell curl. They work different parts of the bicep (inner head, outer head, peak). BigT is right - you'll work more triceps in the one example but you will still…

I know I'm generalizing - but 3 lb dumbbells shouldn't exist. If it's not harder than living your everyday life don't expect any significant change in your body composition. A gallon of milk weighs more than 3 lbs. Your purse (assuming you have one) probably weighs 3 lbs or more. A new 45 year old female lifting weights…

The first picture was after losing about 8 lbs already the bottom is my 40 lb mark from last week. January 20th - 235.4 ~ 30% b.f. June 27th - 195.0 ~ 13% b.f.

Check your local library for new workout videos too. I don't know about Stanley, Wisconsin but our local library system has far more and newer DVDs than I would even imagine.

So YOU'RE the person! Under no circumstances should microwaving fish in public be allowed. People do that at my office from time to time and it is awful. I love grilling fish now and then but it's a zero leftovers meal.

I got sick of the line, prices, and nutritional value of even supposed low sodium lunch meats so I started making my own. Every Sunday I make a bunch of grilled chicken breast and brown rice for mid morning and mid afternoon meals. I make an extra pound of chicken, let it cool, and slice it up and put it in the meat drawer…

Seeing huge bf % changes is always much more rewarding that scale changes. Keep it up!

Thanks. The new piece is in progress. It's by Teresa Sharpe, winner of Best Ink.

Yeah...there's something wrong with your pedometer, or your steps per outing on those walks. I work in a office, and I don't even get up as often as I should. On gym rest days I can still exceed 10,000 steps. I don't every day but I do most and for the days I don't I'm still over 8,000. To do that all I'm doing is walking…

Calories in calories out. Whey protein is simply a protein-dense easily transported powder. Just because you have 10 lbs to lose doesn't mean you're not eating chicken, or fish, or steak, or whatever. You'll be fine if it fits in your goals, macros, and calorie count.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/chicken-parm-meatball-subs-recipe.html We've made that for a couple years now. Now that we're losing weight we skip the bun. You've got ground chicken, a little bit of bread crumbs, a little grated parmesan - altogether pretty healthy and it gets you that great chicken parm…

This^^^ Even the scariest of us heavy lifters aren't about to judge the guy walking in for the first time with no clue. You know who we judge? The guys that do dumb $h1t with no want or respect for advice. I'd never judge a guy for doing 10 lb dumbbellls or just the bar but if you act all tough, throw a bunch of weight on…

Ditch the creatine. It's causing your bloat and discomfort. I don't use it specifically because of that. Given your current strength level (can't do 1 pull up, etc.) you don't need anything like that anyway. You'd be surprised how much your physique and appearance will change with just the addition of strength training.…

Sure your goal should have a time frame associated with it, and a target weight. It needs to be reasonable though. This goal is no different than any other goal in your personal or professional career. It should be smart....and by smart I mean S.M.A.R.T. SPECIFIC MEASUREABLE ACHIEVABLE RESULTS based TIME focused You need…
