  • I take a Selenium supplement just 200mcg - it helps your body convert t4 to t3 and can help lower antibody levels. Since I have Graves Eye Disease too, I've noticed that my eyes don't ache hardly at all anymore. But other than that, I just take a daily vitamin - mostly for the vitamin D.
  • My endo told me that they're going to have to adjust my meds as I lose weight.
  • Basically, people with Graves Disease have a 1 in 90 chance for the disease to effect their eyes in some way. For some reason, the antibodies start attacking them, causing inflammation in the tissues and muscles around the eye which can in turn make the eye bulge out. Smoking can cause the inflammation to flare up. The…
  • Thanks! No idea about the BP... but when I would get the headaches, they were absolutely incapacitating. Could not do anything, but lay in bed. It also caused my eyes to be really gritty and dry all the time. Couldn't wear contacts anymore because of it, and I definitely have to wear sunglasses outside during the day,…
  • Awesome! I really want to get into powerlifting, but I have no idea where to start. <3 GirlsGoneStrong - they're so inspiring!
  • Camp Lejeune, NC - moved here from Oahu a few years back.
  • I dunno... in my opinion, that site is just way over complicating things. I use MFP's calculations, I don't eat hardly any of my exercise calories back, I do however split my meals up to where I eat about 6 times a day. I do an hour of cardio every day, and every other day I add in about 45 minutes worth of strength…
  • Awesome! I'm happy for you! When you're back to "normal" you really know it. I went from being perpetually moody, to walking on rainbows. :p
  • I've been nicotine free for a little over 90 days now. :D I did Chantix just for the first 2 weeks to get over the worst of the withdrawls, then when I would get the random craving, it was a lot easier to just ignore it.
  • Eeew, yeah... find a new doctor. The only time I will ever see a doctor is if I need a specialist. Otherwise, I see a Nurse Practitioner.... I've found that they tend to actually listen more to their patients. Good luck!
  • I do Zumba on my Wii. :D All the tata and booty shaking has me giggling the whole way through. So the full hour long class goes by super fast! Love it! I also found workout inspiration from Girls Gone Strong, so I started doing kettlebell and bodyweight workouts that I found on Myomytv.com.
  • I had to have a sleep study done 6 months ago. My husband kept catching me sitting straight up in bed, and it creeped him out. lol :p Since I never had this problem before when I was at a healthy weight, they said it was due to my weight. I'm hoping once I drop enough I can sleep without the cpap again. But, I'm totally…
  • I've been doing Zumba every day - alternating between 60 & 30 minutes. On my 30 minute Zumba days, I do Kettlebell & bodyweight exercises.
  • I think I read on Mary Shomon's about.com thyroid site that people with thyroid issues have greater weight loss results if they add weight lifting into their routines. Of course, I'm not talking about trying to be a body builder, but if you start building some nice lean muscle, that's going to raise your metabolism a lot…
  • Try taking Selenium supplements, or eat a couple Brazil nuts every day. Selenium is a natural supplement that helps convert T4 into T3. Chlorine in tap water also can cause issues for your thyroid - I've read that if you put a little ascorbic acid (vitamin C) into your drinking water, it clears it up. It might help a…
  • That's great news! What meds are you taking? [/quote] I'm taking 150mcg Synthroid, and 25 mcg Cytomel (split & taken twice a day). Up until about a month ago, I was alternating 150 & 175 mcg of Synthroid with "normal" labs - but still felt like crap all the time, and was unable to lose weight. After speaking to my endo…
  • Once my endo started treating mine, my weight went through the roof. Its been a three year journey for me now, but now that we're starting to get my medications optimized the weight is starting to melt away.
  • Hi! :D My name is Jennifer, I'm a 32 year old Marine wife, and we're currently stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. My weight loss journey has been in progress now for 3 years, but I'm just finally getting started at losing weight. After the birth of my youngest child, I developed a thyroid disease which ended with me having a…
  • Zumba is amazing! I do it on my Wii 7 days a week, and have been doing so for about a month and a half so far. I think its a lot of fun!
  • Welcome to MFP Dave! Good job with the weight loss the past few weeks! Keep at it, and it'll keep getting easier!
  • I used this website when I first got interested in strength training. I'm pretty minimalist, so kettlebells for me were the best thing ever. It builds really dense lean muscle, and can burn 12 calories per minute as well which is amazing. http://www.myomytv.com I mix up bodyweight & kettlebell exercises to get an awesome…
  • Jacksonville here - but I work out at home. Zumba, Kettlebells & TRX. :D
  • I have both Zumba games for Wii, but my favorite has gotta be Zumba 2. Zumba 2 has a calorie and progress tracker, 3 different lengths of classes & intensity modes.
  • My husband and I do too. Well, I used to anyway. I'm having to step away for a while to get my health in order. If I sit down to game, chances are I'll end up here the whole day doing just that. :p
  • Wii Zumba!! I have both that I use - and lately have been sticking with Zumba 2, Full hour long medium intensity classes 7 days a week- and I swear I end up sweating way more than I do when I use my elliptical. <3 The energy it promotes, its gotta be the most fun I've ever had working out. I also do Pilates 3 days a week…

  • I have both Graves Disease and Hashimoto's. Had a complete thyroidectomy in 2010, and have been through 4 Endocrinologists so far in my 4 year journey. Thankfully my latest endocrinologist actually listens to me, and is willing to look at the big picture, rather than try to fit me into their cookie mold. I had been on…
