My understanding is that increased LBM (specifically muscle mass) affects BMR very little, something to the effect of 10-20 cals per lb of muscle per day. Not sure though, don't have the stats in front of me. ETA: According to the paragon of scientific knowledge, Livestrong.com, a lb of fat burns 2-3 cals per day and a lb…

Honestly I think you have to read the individual dog. Some dogs are probably better faced and challegened, and some are better backed down from, especially if you are on their territory. I think it's hard to have a hard and fast rule when it comes to aggressive dogs. If you are faced with a very dominant aggressive dog…

Yeah but . . . unless she is doing an ironman every day, burning 2000 cals in exercise is a lot. I'm not doubting it, just curious.
-
Do you eat more when you exercise? 1200 net might be OK (looks like you are trying to lose around 100lbs per your ticker) but 1200 total probably isn't enough if you're exercising.
-
You can lose at 4000 cals per day? What kind of exercise do you do?

Thanks, I'll give Run a try. I think she is very readable. I like a lot of things as long as they are reasonably well written or entertaining, but some of my other favorites are Mark Helprin (especially A Winter's Tale and Freddy and Fredericka), Michael Chabon (Yiddish Policeman's Union), Jennifer Egan, and George…

Good decision. It sounds like you are going about this in a smart way. I have seen this recommended as a guide to how much weight to try to lose per week -- as you can see, the closer you get to goal, the slower weight loss you can expect. 75+ to lose = 2lbs 50-75 to lose = 1.5-2lbs 25-50 to lose = 1-1.5lbs 15-25 to lose =…

More like one party doesn't like one law so is trying to use their power to fund the government to get the law changed. Democracy at its finest.

Yes.

I just read the magician's assistant. Have to say it wasn't my favorite. I felt like she was overly wordy and the plot just never rang true for me. Not bad, just not as good as I was expecting.

Sounds good!

I second both posts above. BMR does not include any daily activity. Eat at a sedentery TDEE plus exercise if you want -- although I doubt you will be sedentery on vacation. Will you be able to count calories in Thailand? Do you want to? If not, look into a more intuitive approach. Eat when you're hungry, eat slowly, and…

Hmm, mysterious and intriguing. President Obama? :)

Are you in the mental health field? You seem very knowledgeable.

What I understood from that paper is that "behavioral addiction" is not an officially recognized category of disease. Pathological gambling is the only behavior disorder to be categorized in the new category "Addiction and Related Disorders". "The DSM-V Substance Use Disorders Workgroup [8] has recently proposed that the…

The article you linked to was a good review of the topic and seems to settle the matter. http://www.karger.com/Article/FullText/338310 From the conclusion: "Because of the current rather limited evidence of the addictive behavior of specific food ingredients or additives, we currently conclude that food addiction can best…

I'm so confused as to why this is an important argument.
-
Actually, that works on almost everyone...

Good post. You explained it very well. I agree with the person above who says you are eating it in moderation -- I'm not sure there's a consensus on what "moderation" means in terms of frequency and amount. I'm very glad you found what works for you!

And yet here we are, still swimming...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioural_despair_test It's actually kind of interesting. I see a correlate in posting on the boards. How long does it take to realize it's hopeless?

Yeah, I looked it up too. Doesn't sound as fun if they have to put in electrodes first.

I want to know what this intracranial self stimulation thing is all about.

This should be required reading (the article, not this thread).

This. What was your question? The person who thought you were only eating 1600 and said to eat more was wrong -- you are netting 1600. The concept of net should be tossed out the window when you use TDEE-X%. Gross calorie intake is all that matters. Nice job!
-
I agree. And while it seems obvious I think a lot of people fail to grasp this.
-
Slightly off topic, but does this mean a woman over 40 should not have a BF% under 25? That's news to me.

It's good when it volunteers to teach adult literacy. It's bad when it holds up banks. The rest of the time, it's just pineapple.

No ideas here, but I saw pumpkin at the store today and wondered the same thing!

Thanks, I have tried this ingredient combo before but could never quite get the proportions right. Will give it a shot!
