No pool, huh? Anywhere you can swim outside? Do you have a yard? You could get a small plastic pool and rig up a tether like this: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c33LdUfvzU8

I can't access the full article, but it doesn't sound like they are making any unfounded claims in the abstract. And it does sound like atrophy occurred within that 5 day period. You can't really criticize a study on apples for not making predictions about oranges...…

Interesting, thanks for posting. Makes sense that protein might not automatically "go" to muscle that is not being used. I don't know what their baseline intake was, but there are plenty of other uses for protein that the body probably sees as higher priority than muscle that is not being used. Good reminder of the…

I don't think the argument is that managed hives are helping to support the native bee populations. They are simply playing a similar ecological role, and one that is sorely needed. I also believe that the honey industry shares many common interests with those concerned with protecting native bees, particularly in regards…

Check out the book Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink. http://mindlesseating.org/index.php The guy is a food researcher and has a lot of insight into the little things that make us overeat, but which can also be used to make us eat at a slight deficit without even noticing (like hiding the cake). Really interesting read.

I agree with this. The decline in bee populations has a huge impact on ecosystem health. I hope someday to have my own backyard hive (in which I will try not to crush or freeze the bees), but I do believe my local beekeeping operations are on balance a positive thing.

Neat video! Makes me appreciate the Y. Are there any women there? Wondering if it is segregated or if swimming is just not big with the ladies.

Names do matter, to make sure we are all talking about the same thing. One week can't be considered a plateau so can't be thought about the same way. The point is, if you lose weight consistently for 5 weeks and then stop losing for a week or two, don't worry about it, don't change anything, don't do anything. As for real…

That is, and you are, incredible! I really admire the way you commit to something, whether it be weight loss, weight maintenance, or illness, and dive in. That is a survivor's attitude. I look forward to the next update.

Not sure it is illogical, depending on how you frame the debate. The republican view is more traditional/conservative in that women's behavior is controlled. The democrat view is more egalitarian. Do you really think there would be a debate if men bore children?

I don't understand the outcry to save the dog. Dogs are euthanized every day for less than this.

Can a vegan use animals for companionship?

It's not really equivalent...chickens don't slough their uterine lining when they release the egg.
-
Personally I would eat them if I believed the chickens were happy, especially if they would go to waste otherwise. I agree with the poster above that you have to use your own discernment. People have all sorts of opinions, including those who don't believe animals should be kept in captivity or that any part of an animal…

I have to admit I'm not even clear what cybersex involves. Is it illegal to even receive images of minors that someone else took and sent you without your permission? Are you not allowed by law to respond to the minor? Not defending it, just not clear on exactly what happened or where the law stands. I get the impression…

Yeah. Not sure. I think the concept of IE is great but the physiological reality is that our bodies want to keep a little extra fat around. Any weight loss plan based on the assumption that we somehow intuitively "know" the right amount to eat to lose X lbs seems flawed. I think being mindful about what, when, how, where…

I don't think there is a "best" way, there is only the way that is most useful to you in any given situation. If you think this might work, try it. Sounds like you stand to benefit more than you have to lose. Despite the fervent moderation crowd around here, there is nothing wrong with avoiding any given food for as long…

You get overwhelmed by your choices in any restaurant where there are more than two acceptable options.

That was beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for posting. Best of luck in your continued awesomeness.

Love everything about this! Thanks for posting! I'm also impressed that MFP estimated your net maintenance so well.

Given the social norms of separate locker rooms, your presence in the women's locker room would itself constitute inappropriate behavior, but yes, the fat that you're heterosexual is irrelevant.
-
Glad to see that the majority of responses here are reasonable and empathetic. The point is, there is BEHAVIOR that is appropriate in a locker room, and BEHAVIOR that is not. The personal life of the person performing said behavior is irrelevant.

^^ I think what he is trying to say is that there really isn't any need to do anything like this -- there is no cleansing or detoxing to be done. Just drink water if you think you are retaining water and eat a balanced diet in moderation. That's pretty much it.

If you've had something for a couple of years that's usually a sign that it's not life-threatening, but go to the doctor when you can. I have sciatic nerve pain in one of my legs and not the other and it is focused at the top of my thigh. Try doing stretches for the pyriformis and hip flexors and see if that helps.

http://breakingmuscle.com/mobility-recovery/this-year-exercise-less Awesome website, awesome message. I also prefer exercise be a byproduct of my daily activities. Plenty of those opportunities to go around too.

Clearly the wheel was meant to be metaphorical. Everyone has a metaphorical wheel. If not an actual wheel, which would be even more awesome.
-
I think you have a pretty good theory going there, for the most part. I agree intention is an important part of it. It may be hard to know what animals would consider necessary without ascribing a bit of our own bias to them, but I think most people would agree that animals would prefer not to be mistreated, at least…

I had success. So can you! Sometimes it seems like the twists and turns in the habitrail of life are just too much, but brush yourself off, fill up those cheek pouches (or the equivalent) with courage and get back on the wheel! (how's that?)

Change "your" to "my" in the above sentence and it is very slightly better. You have a right to say that those calories do not fit into your daily goal. It crosses a line to say that they do not fit into someone else's.
