I don't know about feel them but I definitely believe they are attuned enough to our body language to know how we are feeling on some basic level. Sometimes when I'm in a bad mood I try to pretend I'm not so my dog doesn't get upset. :ohwell:

You might be interested in joining the intermittent fasting group here. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/66-intermittent-fasting I don't necessarily agree that you need to commit to a new way of eating forever, if something interests you there's no harm in trying it out (usually). Sometimes it takes some trial and…

I think most "nature vs nurture" questions do involve elements of both but my personal opinion re personality is that a large part of it is nature. Is your daughter the oldest? The typical personalities of 1st, 2nd and 3rd children is also interesting and I know my brother and I fell into those roles somewhat. Not to say…

Yeah, that too. It isn't actually a comparison if you look at the article but it is titled that way.
-
Sorry you got a negative response, I think the title of the thread got people's hackles up because it sounded like it was playing into the whole "good/bad food" dichotomy which is such a touchy subject here on MFP these days. Thank you for sharing the article. :flowerforyou:

LOL. I agree, the moon is clearly better. And coffee is better than a smoothie. Actually, coffee may be better than the moon. It's hard to say.
-
If your husband is taking diuretics it is probably for an issue unrelated to his coffee consumption, although caffeine can cause a short-term increase in blood pressure.
-
I was going to say this too.

Interesting, looks like a couple of posts have been deleted. I had a flash of brilliance so I will say it anyway for anyone who thinks this is petty or insignificant. Just as how in person we are judged first by outward appearance, in online communication we are judged by our ability to express ourselves using written…

Are you one of those grammar bully's?

Terrifying.

 Favorite mental image of the day.

Good advice. There are probably more important battles to fight. Like does a pound of coffee weigh more than a pound of coffee?
-
I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Is it even worth correcting this if it keeps being repeated? To the OP -- coffee is made of water.

Welcome! There is an IF group you might be interested in -- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/49-intermittent-fasting

It's really not that big of a deal. Just go to a restaurant that serves tofu and order it. Chinese is usually a good option. It's just food.

Yes, there was a big paper out in the journal Nature in 2008 to this effect (unfortunately I could only access the abstract): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18454136 They suggested that fat gain in adulthood is due to hypertrophy (increase in size of the cell) rather than hyperplasia (increased number of cells). I…

I have 2003 also and it's not working. Bitter tears are shed. Luckily I have 32 calories left today so I can drown my sorrows in a third of a shot of whiskey.

Just holy water, I think (joke)

You need to be more specific because the dose makes the poison. Do you mean fasting for 5 hours? 12 hours? 40 hours? Google intermittent fasting if you are interesed in the possible benefits of abstaining from food for short periods. ETA -- specifically in regards to weight loss, "detoxification" and food addiction issues,…

May be a couple of issues. 1. Your calorie goal may be too low 2. You are eating calorie-dense food Make sure your deficit is not too aggressive. I agree with setting your rate of loss for 1lb per week as the poster above suggested. To get more bang for your calorie buck, eat food that is filling with fewer calories. An…

I agree it's good to be aware that one's metabolism may be different from the figure the online calculators provide, whether it be due to difference in activity level, hormonal status, illness, or medication. Those groups sound like a great idea too.
-
Yes, they say the difference between 2.6kg and 1.3kg wasn't statistically significant but I am unsure what statistics they used to determine that. The fast group also lost more so if you look at the graph it looks like a fairly comprable amount of regain compared to what they lost.
-
No problem! You got a lot of other good advice here too. If you don't lose after a few weeks in the 1400-1650 range, I would reasses. You may know this but you can set your own calorie goal under food/settings/goals/change goals/custom. You don't need to log your exercise or eat any additional calories when you exercise.
-
Do you think this is true even for people whose hypothyroidism is well controlled by medication? Levothyroxine should elevate BMR back up into the normal range. Too much can even mimic hyperthyroidism and elevate BMR above the normal range.
-
If you go back to the TDEE calculator you used above, you can input your info for different levels of activity. Generally the calorie goal given there (the one where it says "daily calories based on goal in step 6") is pretty good. For light activity, it gives you a maintenence of 1684. For sedentery, it gives you 1469. If…
-
I'll see if I can help. Sounds like you want to lose 12 lbs. Let's say your TDEE is 1900. This is your daily maintenance calorie requirement. Since you don't have much more to lose, you can't lose as quickly as you did before. You can probably expect to lose between 0.5-1 lb per week at the most. To lose 1 lb per week, you…

I agree. I think that last point is what the OP was trying to get across with this thread.
