Which is good because those things take out all the fiber.

Nope, not enough cat gifs

 :drinker:  :drinker: Congrats on medaling your first 5k marathon!

I see guys running with no shirts all the time. I've never given it a second thought. Well, maybe a second thought if they are really fit. Then, maybe even a third thought. And I do wonder about the guy who runs around my neighborhood without a shirt, but with a wool beanie on his head. But that's for different reasons.

Sorry yo, the elliptical isn't a substitute for running at all. You can get cardio benefits of an elevated heart rate out of it, but that's about it. If aqua-jogging is available to you, that is an ok substitute, but you'll still be missing the impact. Best to let your injury heal, do what you can cardio-wise, and get back…

WHO SAYS THIS? DOES BILL CLINTON SAY THIS? WHY ARE WE SHOUTING???

Srsly. This group already exists. Its called "Chit Chat Fun & Games". But I guess this group will make it easier for everyone's spouses to prove infidelity in divorce court.

Congrats! Races are fun! A few tips: if you run with earbuds, take them out at the beginning and soak up the atmosphere. In fact, its best to keep one out or keep the music low in case you need to hear instructions from the race director, or people are trying to pass. -don't line up at the front unless you're planning on…

Its a common problem - a lot of runners have little appetite after a long run. I spread my calories out through the week to make them up. Generally though - 1g protein per pound lean mass. carbs and fat will depend on you and your goals.

"slamming" down whole bag of broccoli?

I haven't read the thread, but has anyone brought up the idea that maybe the OP should see a doctor if she's peeing oil?

"night before" carb loading has gone out the window, mostly for the reasons you experienced. I will tend to start carb-loading 3 days before hand, gradually increasing the percentage. My last real carb-heavy meal would be lunch the day before. Dinner the night before the race I eat 'normally' (for me that is usually brown…

I'm going to reiterate that I think this is an unwise idea. Not 'you'll never make it', but unwise nonetheless. I have a friend who once ran/walked a marathon having only run 6 miles in her long run. She finished and got a medal. She also went to dinner that night in a wheelchair. Your previous 4 mile/run base might be…

Yeah, I don't know if you're going to be 'fine'. Can it be done? Sure, but it won't be a fun experience. You worked up to 4 miles, then took 5 weeks completely off, so you will have lost fitness. More importantly, you have a blood sugar problem that might not be under control quite yet? Real talk - This doesn't sound like…

I can give you general rules, but I live in Southern California, and really only have to deal with 'mild', 'hot', and 'on fire'. I'm hoping others will chime in. Dress in layers, avoid cotton. Make your outer layer a windbreaker, but something that is still breathable (so you aren't just a giant sealed sweatbag at the…

Here's some words from someone who posted earlier who started over 200lbs Extra weight just means you should be very cautious. Make sure you have the right shoes. Keep your paces slow (even if it feels like you are the slowest slow that ever slowed). Get ample recovery. Also, consult your doctor if you have any previous…

Depends a bit on what you're doing right now, but there are some general things you can do just to put yourself in the best position possible at the start: Give yourself time to recovery, then work your mileage back up. If you have any nagging injuries, take this time to let them heal. Make an effort to lose extra weight…

To your first question: an 18 week marathon training session will assume at least a base of about 20-25 miles per week (you should be able to do that comfortably before beginning). To the question of running the full distance in training: Its not a wise idea for those of us not planning on winning the race. There are…

I assume you're talking to me, but if you want to quote, hit the 'quote' button. It makes things easier. And after I thanked you for the laughs. Why so mean?

man this post really has it all !) New yet knows everything 2) "I would never be as mean as you trailer trash hillbillies" hypocrisy 3) Buddhist fasts yet severely rustled jimmies. 4) "everyone here is overweight/we're all here for the same reason" Love it. Thanks for the chuckle.

Its because seeing a lower weight can be a trigger for those with ED, encouraging them to continue eating below a safe amount. I'm for it.

You shouldn't really need anything for a half, but if you want something, Its all about personal preference. I like Powergel because they are more liquidy than Gus, and I have problems chewing while running (so shot blocks or beans are out). I know that I like citrus flavors and not chocolate/caramel/coffee ones. Some…

In to see where this goes

Yeah, that's pretty much it. You're not going to be doing anything too strenuous with C25K, so getting out there fasted isn't a big deal. Some people like a little something in their stomach, and for that I would suggest an apple or banana, maybe toast. Usually, if the run is under an hour, I just have a few glasses of…

So...this is a well-used park where lots of people and/or children play? Yeah, you don't need a gun and bear spray. Just tell him to get over it and go running. You could get injured in the house, at work, literally anywhere. He can't keep you safe from everything by guilting you into staying in your house forever.

I trail run alone all the time. I take my phone with me and let someone know where I will be, and when I should be back. If you're running at night through the mountains, being alone is a problem, but through a park in the city? Being paranoid to do that falls squarely in the "I won't cross the road because a bus might hit…

Congrats on how far you've come. Here are some things to think about - don't all of a suddenly switch up your program. You're asking a lot of your body pretty suddenly, so don't try to go overboard in the last month. -Your time is up to you. Your placement is up to others. You could run a 22, and still come in 7th because…

Yes, that is exactly what it means. I am also a straight white woman. It doesn't make me bad, but it does make me privileged. I acknowledge that my way in life has been easier than a black woman's by the fact that my skin is white. I didn't form an opinion of her, she gave me her opinion. Its right up there in the quoted…
