Man I feel you. I love logging downhill miles, but always sound like wounded cattle going uphill. There are a few tips, but mostly its just practice. And mentally, I just don't let myself stop. So the tips: Lean into the hill slightly from your hips. Shorten your stride and increase your turnover. I do a mixture of short…

I like the Shock Absorber Ultimate Run bra. I call it "the boob trap". I can usually find it on amazon, though it is UK sizing.

Oh, that was directed at OP to counter the minimalist zealot up thread, not you.

To be fair, you can spend 300 on shoes, and if they are the wrong shoes, then you might as well light the money on fire. However, I stopped getting injured when I stopped running in Nike Frees and got a gait analysis done. I paid roughly the same for my Brooks all those years ago, and it made all the difference in the…

Entire courses in economics, politics, debate, and logic could be centered around this post.

I think you're low balling that. By a lot.

Yeah, agree with others, I've been running marathon and up distances for 12 years. Never lost a toenail due to racing (lost a toenail due to dropping my luggage on my foot the day after a race when I couldn't control my muscles, but I only indirectly blame running for that).

how's this thread going? Oh....

T shirts are for closers!!!!!

I'm told a real ultra runner is much different from a real road runner. Real ultra runners have great big bushy beards, maximalist shoes, and are following OFM.

Well at very least you are not a runner.

For roads or things 50k or under, FR610 For 50k+, Fenix.

Yeah, I think a full stop to all speed work is probably in order. Sounds like OP is a little below 10k trained right now, with a half marathon under her belt at some point in the past? This is definitely long, slow mileage territory. I think I once had a 20-week ultra plan, and that first long run was still 8 miles,…

So, you want to do a lot of stuff. I guess it depends on your goals. Do you want to *race* every HM? Or just complete them? Because it is unlikely that you will PR every time. Also, training to be fast at the HM distance on roads is much different than training for a trail ultra, or for a 24 hour loop course. If you get…

I've actually found that trail ultras are a lot easier on my body than road marathons. I could maybe run 1-2 "A" marathons a year, but can easily race a 50k every month or every other if my mileage is consistent. Good luck OP, sounds like you might need it.

After anything 90 minutes or more, I usually have a protein shake (I just throw some of my ON protein powder in a blender with frozen strawberries and some water). I also like a fried egg sandwich with cheese. For a really long run, 20+ miles, usually I don't want to eat after and it takes me a while to be hungry, so…

Its personal preference, really, but my general tip for anyone in their first distance race is to set up your long run as race practice. So if the race is on a Sunday morning, go out for your long runs Sunday morning. This way you can practice nutrition (what you eat for breakfast, what time you eat, what works, what…

I would get some that you think might be good, and then try them out, one every 6 miles on runs of 12 miles or more. If you have multiple 20 mile runs, I would use them on one to make sure they work and you aren't getting any unpleasant side effects. I think you'll be fine using them on your training runs now, its when…

Totally personal preference. I like Powergel or Hammer gels, because they are more liquid-y. Others like Gu, Clif, Honey Stinger, because they are more like chewing on something. I found that I can't handle anything frosting-flavored during a race (no chocolate, vanilla, caramel etc), I only like fruit flavors. Because…

difficult.. have you ever worn a tutu at a race?

I stopped at a red light on my run this morning. A guy wearing tights ran by and into the intersection. I shouted "J'ACCUSE!" at him, but he just looked bewildered.

Depending on the Garmin model, it should have an 'autopause' feature you can turn on, that will automatically stop when you stop. Not sure if real runners use autopause or not though, I'll have to get a ruling from the judge.
-
Pretty sure real runners have thumb holes in their shirts.
-
I've let out some serious anger at stoplights when forced to pause 600m into my last 800m repeat. I'd rather be run over than have to do the interval again.
-
Wait. Is it Friday? It all makes sense now.
-
Well now that I know everyone is staring at me and judging my stoplight pauses as being "elitist", I shall stop running! STOP I SAY!!!! ...or I won't
