Yes, taper. You want to get to the race rested. Don't stop running all together, but you also shouldn't be running high mileage. For a half, no real special carb loads are needed, though if you want to up your carbs a little, do so the 2-3 days before, then eat normally the day before (nothing too high in fiber,…

90% of all shin splints will be for one of two reasons: 1) 'too much, too fast, too soon' 2) bad/old shoes
-
Is that your average pace or your fastest? How you specifically go about this depends on how fast you want to run the race, butt his is what I would do: I would get on a schedule. Run 4 times a week. Make whatever day the race is (usually Sunday) your long run. If you ran 20 miles last week, increase to 22 this week…

You should basically do a 15k training plan. How many miles/times a week do you run now? I would increase distance up until about 3 months before the race, then do a 12 week 15k training plan that will include tempo and interval work to have you run your fastest. Specifics depend on your endurance/speeds stats right now.

long road runs - zone out, think through life/relationship/job problems, or sometimes think about what I would do if I won one of those 300 million dollar lottery jackpots (despite the fact that I do not play the lottery) trail runs - mainly just concentrate on not breaking an ankle. Its good for when I need to clear my…

I cut out all sugar and replaced it with honey. That, plus oil pulling has me feeling like a new woman.

Well this has been fun. Out of curiosity, what do people consider a nice way to say 'overweight'? I mean, I feel like this is a catch 22. If you say someone is 'overweight', that isn't a judgement on them as a human being, its just a statement of fact. I feel like if you say someone is 'plump' or 'husky' or 'robust' or…

Honestly- no one will even notice you or give you a second thought. I've been running for 10 years and I can count the number of times someone has said something to me on one hand. Other runners will nod or smile and get back to their workout, that's about it.

You mean the girl with the history of ED who eats 30 bananas a day?

Bad news: You're not going to lose 50lbs in 3 months in any healthy or sustainable manner. Hell, even if you did lose 50 lbs in that short a time period, you would probably look saggy and tired and strung out and not at all the way you want to look. Good news: You can lose 20-25 lbs, and look strong and sexy and the best…

Depends on the shoe, but 300-500 miles is standard. I keep track of the miles on my shoes, and usually, if I start to have aches and pains that I don't normally get, I check, and see that my shoes have reached the replacement stage.

Lulz. Ain't no hangry like keto hangry.

It is kind of entertaining. So far, out of the eleventy billion cleanse threads, the responses have been: -99.9% silence -'casein' -caffeine -bad thoughts/feelings I don't think those last three count.

name one. Anyone, name a single toxin that is built up in your body that drinking fruit pulp will rid you of, but that your body will not take care of on its own. I'll wait. It'll give Jof a break
-
the trampoline thread was pretty hilarious.
-
Glad you got good responses and are going to run. Just thought I'd chime in and say that you won't always want to run. Some days you'll really want to stay in bed, or sit on the couch, or have a glass of wine instead. Don't beat yourself up over that feeling, its very common. The key is to just make this time…

STOP DOING THIS. THIS IS DUMB. I am not saying you are dumb, but doing this is dumb. How is this thread not locked yet?
-
it helped me lose 4 pounds in 2 days. Also I was cutting calories and exercising, but it was totally the ethanol vapor.
-
I predict... 1)Dr. Oz doing a show on oil pulling 2) roughly 200000 new threads about oil pulling 3) roughly 200000 butthurt OPs because of the 'oil pulling is dumb' responses 4) slightly fewer 'mean people' threads started on the subject.
-
Also, can someone name a toxin for Jof before this gets deleted? Pretty please? I would love to see him end his quest.
-
Wait... Someone doesn't believe in pizza?

translation; Look, you want support? STAHP with the fads you saw on Dr. Oz. Eat at a moderate deficit. Exercise. There is no magic to this, its just math. You don't need a "jump start" (which, by the way, isn't a jump start, its just three wasted days of drinking sludge). Your body is not dirty and full of toxins. If a…

What is your weekly running schedule like? How many days/miles how fast etc..
-
Its all good, but pretty much every day I see some sort of post along the lines of "I just started running and now my shin/knee/arch hurts", and we all write the same words over and over again for how to fix that, because it is basically always one of the issues in addressed in this post. Its nice to have something to link…

Ha, thought of you with the crossfit line  Just to clarify: Not hating on crossfit - bad advice can come from anywhere
-
Since you're not on a timeline, and don't want to rush into anything, try shorter distances first. Sign up for a local 5k. Then build up to a 10k. There are lots of online training plans. I wouldn't recommend jumping straight into half or full distances anyway. You're more likely to get injured and have a bad experience by…
