Does anyone get really bad aches and cramps in their shins when running? I usually get them and it isn't fun but what I want to know is there any way to prevent them from happening? I used to run and never had the issue in hs... Now I started running last year to get in shape again and they started happening.. Weak shins?

It may be your shoes. I don't suffer shin splints often but when it happens I just switch my shoes out and I'm fine. I'm sure there may be a dozen other reasons people get shin splints but changing kicks is all I've got.
    Good luck

a Great way to stretch your shins is sit on the floor with knees together sit back onto your heels almost touching your butt similar position is child's pose. You will feel that stretch

90% of all shin splints will be for one of two reasons:
    1) 'too much, too fast, too soon'
    2) bad/old shoes

I'm getting ready to test a theory a friend of mine has to prevent shin splints. She's a roller derby girl and gets shin splints and since I was able to jog before she thinks that my calves are too tight so I'm using a tiger tail to massage them and once the weather gets nicer and snow starts going away she is going to let me jog with her and we'll see what happens.
