I work at a corporate office in The Netherlands but we're a very international company with people from all over the spectrum, as far as tats, piercings, and dress code go. One of our HR specialists is in a punk band, complete with mohawk, shaved on the sides, and gauges and wears black leather with studds quite often. She…

hey toady! Just checking in to see how you were doing... would love to hear an update!

if you're really interested in this subject, you should pick up the book Mindless Eating. It's an easy read and really interesting, sharing studies done at the University of Illinois food labs, as to why people overeat. It was recommended to me at the clinic that I went to for weight loss help and was extremely eye…

I love the BBC they have some awesome documentaries. Bumping this for later.

Just keep it in your mind that maybe the first time you won't be able to do it all and maybe not even the second or third time but eventually, with enough persistance, you'll get there! There is also nothing wrong with taking a break inbetween if you really feel you can't continue on during the video. Walk in place to keep…

find any exercise that you like, be it riding a bike, swimming, water aerobics, jumping on a trampoline, walking in your neighborhood, doing videos at home on the Wii (I do the Fitness Coach workouts) and just keep doing it. You will find yourself getting more fit within a few routines, and within a few weeks you'll notice…

this is an awesome question and one I have been wondering about too but wasn't sure how to ask it. Thanks for finding the words!

I've been in Amsterdam for a little under 9 years now. I'm American, did a study abroad program in Swansea, Wales in the UK and came to the Dam for a weekend, ended up meeting my (now) husband and when my semester was over instead of moving back to the US I moved to the NL and have been here ever since. :o)

awesome NSV! And your English is great, as is the English of most of the Dutch people I know! I'm also in the NL *waving*

I used to have the same thing, when I would jog, if I would see people coming towards me on the path, I would stop and walk, and then pick back up after they passed by. I was ashamed of them seeing my 300 pound body jiggling, me puffing, my bright red face... I was just ashamed of myself. As my runs became easier (easy is…

why does anybody spend money on tampons every month when you can buy one cup and be done with it: http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/648061.html I've used every form of TOM product available and once I went to the cup, I'd never, ever turn back. You can spend aprox $35 on one cup and you're done.

I will be indulging in a couple Carbury Creme eggs and not feeling the slighest bit of guilt. I get them once a year. I will log them though because that's what this whole thing is about for me, being accountable.

ditto, although I just keep making myself eat it and the more I do, the less I hate it. edited to add: ditto on the Chia seeds!!! So, so, so very gross.

in Amsterdam here - we are known for any food that cures the munchies! :o) But really, the Dutch love their Febo food (a Dutch fast food chain), especially croquettes! They're also known for making a mean hutspot - which is a mash of potato, carrot and onion usually served with worst. Lekker!

Why don't you call a clinic or your doctor or a nutritionist and talk over the pros and cons with them about surgery? You know that after the surgery you will need to take the same steps to learning to eat right and exercise that you will need to before surgery but I can understand that you may feel like you need the…

jeeezzzz that is amazing!!! You look awesome. Well done!

this is what I do, and run under cold water after for an easy peel.

does fruit not do it for you? what about working some of your favorite sweet treats into your diet? Not necessarily every day, but maybe make Monday and Friday your sweet treat day? Then you don't have to worry about binging on them as you know Monday/Friday is just around the corner and you can have it then.

it's zuchini and I have to agree, it doesn't look that appetizing to me either. I'm sure it's yummy though, the ingredient list is nice!

ditto this but it's a total stab in the dark for me. I have been over 220 since I was a teen, spending most of my adult like in the 280 range so it's just so abstract to me that I won't be able to really tell until I get there.

I have donuts once a year when I'm in the U.S.A and holy mozes what I wouldn't give for a original glazed Krispie Kreme hot off the belt right now!

sounds super yummy and I love the tortilla alternative... oh and the ricota garlic suggestion! YUM!

I felt the same way! I was overwhelmed with information and felt if I didn't do this right this very minute, then I was slacking. I was obsessed with thoughts and my head was just full all the time of food, what I should eat, what I shouldn't eat, what I should be doing, if it was working, what else I could try, what…

I totally applaud your efforts and I think you'll see that it gets easier quicker than you expect it to! Next time you go out to your car (or in a day or two), see if you can do a lap around it before heading back in. Just adding +-20 steps to get around the car but just see if you can do it. If you can, then do that a few…

and can I just say I am touched by the outreach and support throughout this thread!

I have been in that place, so scared, so tired, so desperate but unable to move, mentally and physically. I sought out professional help and it was the ONLY way out for me. I needed somebody to listen to me. I needed some guidance. I needed ONE WAY to thinking and looking at things and not 50 people on a website telling me…

I wrote a blog post about this a few years back. You already KNOW it's sensitive for her. What exactly do you think you're going to say that she doesn't already know. And you have no idea what's going on in her head. http://sarahsweightlossjourneyblog.blogspot.nl/2007/05/wanna-plan-fat-intervention-with-loved.html Yet…

it's been five days... give it time... like 8 weeks before you see steady results. be consistant and stick to it. Only weigh in once a week if the numbers are going to mess with your head. take your measurements so you have other measurable goals and can lose the number focus. In the end, you can eat well, in healthy…
