You may suffer from something called "Bile Salts Diarrhea" which is an uncommon but well recognized complication of gallbladder removal surgery. You see, your liver makes the bile that digests the foods you eat. Normally the gallbladder holds this bile until it is needed. When the gallbladder is removed, the liver has to…

I have Crohn's Disease, which is very different from IBS. But the common thing it shares is either diarrhea or constipation, which can make you not want to eat depending on which bathroom problem one has. How about medications to manage the symptoms? There are several on the market that can make the IBS more tolerable.…

Have you tried drinking your calories? I find this helps me the most when I am not hungry.

I suffer from severe CD for the better part of my adulthood and I am constantly struggling to both gain and maintain my weight. It can be difficult sometimes, especially when you have food intolerances, like dairy or fresh veggies. I use MFP as a food diary of sorts, it helps me to keep track of the foods I eat, the…

So as a fellow Crohnie, who is struggling to gain weight as well, I have found that no matter how much I eat, I do not gain weight. I think it is due to both the absorption issues of my damaged intestines and the fact that when flaring, food takes the express lane out of my body. Even when I am not flaring, my symptoms do…

I do not have any before-after photos to show you, but when I started this journey ( 2 years ago) I weighed 105 lbs and now I am at 132 lbs. It is a hard road for me to gain weight, I have crohn's disease. Anyway, my advice is to slowly build up the calories. At one point I got to 150 lbs due to steroid use for my disease,…

Have you tried drinking some of your calories? There are plenty of "meal replacement" drinks that you can add to your diet as snacks to help you add more calories. I have CD and since many times I would not be able to hit my daily calories without some liquid help. You can also use it to lighten up your coffee instead of…

I am not sure if this would be helpful to you or not, but since I have Crohn's disease and am frequently malnourished; I found that it is helpful to measure out the servings of my food instead of "eyeballing" it. When I just guess at the servings, I am under the measurements, but using a food scale and measuring cups has…

I would think that you would not be trying to lose weight at this time since you sound like you are in a flare-up. Perhaps you should try liquid nutrition, ie: boost or ensure to keep your calories up. It is not good to only be drinking water, you need to get enough calories each day or you could get wasting syndrome,…

I count everything liquid towards my water intake, as well as anything that melts at room temp (like ice cream) and soups. It is all liquid to me.

You could always buy some Boost or Ensure drinks to use as meal replacements until your nausea goes away.

It looks to me like you are not eating enough calories. My advice would be to up your calories each day. I think that if you keep on this path, when you start eating more, the weight will pile on; but if you eat more calories each day within your restrictions, you should be able to lose weight. PS I too, have a medical…

I looked at your diary, and you are eating way too much sodium. Perhaps try to cut back on the salty foods, and reach for healthier snacks like fruit, veggies, plain popcorn, pretzels, water, low-fat string cheese, etc. I know this may be hard because you eat all your meals in the cafeteria on campus, but I am sure they…

I have had CD for several years now, and I too go through periods of loss of appetite. I try to eat several high calorie snack throughout the day to supplement meal times when I hardly eat at all. Another good trick is to buy drinks that are high calorie. I am not sure if you have diet restrictions or not, but Bolthouse…

When you live at home with your parents, it is hard not to eat the food they bring into the house. When I was still at home, I kept my snacks in a separate cupboard in the kitchen. Perhaps you could do this, and buy your own healthy snacks. If need be, write your name on them in the fridge and ask your family to be…

I joined this group so I could respond to your question: I have Crohn's disease and recently had my first surgery. I was on Humira for 3 years, the last year doing weekly shots. I had good results for the first two years, then it seemed to stop working. Cimzia is another option of an injectable biologic medication and I…

In my quest to gain weight, I try to eat and drink high calorie everything. I have one recipe from the Food Network for Korean Steak Noodles that is around 600 calories a serving. I also try to eat high calorie snacks, 3-6 times a day. If you want to, you can add me as a friend. I know what it is like to try to gain weight…

I log as I go, it is easier to keep track of my calories this way and it gives me an accurate number of calories needed to finish my day. Plus I never know what I am going to want to eat until then.

Have the doctor's checked you for IBD--both Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis? I have had CD diagnosed for about 6 years, but they believe I have had it around 17 years. I too had constipation as one of my main problems as well as severe abdominal pain. My suggestion is to go to a gastroenterologist and get checked.…

I use a few tablespoons of flavored cream; and no sugar since it is already in the cream. If I were to use a type of sugar, it would be Stevia.

I too am here to gain weight, although I have a different problem as to why I have trouble gaining and maintaining. I have found that trying to eat a 2000 cal a day diet helps. Also keeping track of how many calories that are burned in a day and eating them back could lead a person to gain weight. Best of luck!!

I too use this website as a way to track my daily intake of calories in an effort to gain weight. I have found that it is all about the numbers, as long as you set your calorie goal at 2000 per day and consistently meet or exceed this, you will gain weight. Best of luck!!
