I am three months into recovery from surgery to repair a major achilles tendon rupture. I started PT about three weeks out of surgery and am still in it. I recently stopped using a cane to walk, and recently got the go ahead to resume cycling at an easy pace for no more than 3-5 miles. Some pain is "recovery pain" --…

I ride a Terry Symmetry, -- until I blew my Achilles Tendon. I am recovering from repair surgery and look forward to cycling again, hopefully by year's end. My mountain bike is a GT Gravity, and I also ride a Specialized Expedition.

Definately this. A registered dietitian (not a nutritionist) is an excellent resource and well worth the out of pocket expenses if your insurance doesn't cover t he consult.

This. And. . . I ruptured my Achilles Tendon while cycling ( 25 miles daily) a few weeks ago. I had surgery to repair it on June 10th. i was in a weight less cast, and now I am in an orthopedic walking boot. However, until I have the stitches removed (July 7th) I can not walk on it; and even then, i will only be able to…

You limit yourself and your well being by stipulating a one week improvement via exercise. Reducing stress via exercise doesn't work on a time line like that. If you are at the hospital, you can take periodic breaks from your mom's bedside with a walk around the main entrance area or ask at the nurse's station if they can…

+1 and stop raggin' on yourself.

You are off to a great start!! You can challenge yourself with either a quicker pace and/or more laps as it becomes easier. If you can, purchase a heart rate monitor to give you a more accurate estimate of the calories burned on your walks. I had a minor mishap while cycling and injured my knee so walking this week has…

No it certainly isn't. My pitbull lays on my legs, hovers over me, and prances around if I am on the floor. When I was outdoors working my first pitbull on agility I tripped and broke my ankle, and fell to the ground. As I lay there, she ran over to me, pulled off my wool cap, and ran into the neighbor's yard. Well, that…

+1 Best perspective here.

+1 This will work better than name calling them back.

Yes. I use a polar hrm and you set up your profile, including your max heart rate, BF%, age, gender, height. I wear it while I am cycling and on an elliptical trainer. For the latter, the calorie expenditure is lower than the equipment and the mfp database.

+1 If you read through some of the success stories, you will see lots of people started out with walking and gradually built on that.

I've never had knee replacement surgery, but a friend of mine did. He prepared for it by getting himself in pretty decent shape prior to the surgery. It helped him tremendously in his recoup. Just curious-- is the knee replacement surgery recommended because you had injured your knee so severely with your fall a few weeks…

Agreed. Some people cannot be silent on matters that they have neither anything neutral or positive to say or add to in a meaningful way. I am not a member of the Roman Church or a Protestant denomination that participates in Lent; but I am respectful of other peoples' practices, and make at least a point of understanding…

I can't say it's an addiction, but i buy cycling stuff and gear. Clothing to layer with for cold weather riding, bike shoes, toe clips, summer tops and bottoms, derailleurs. Clothing I buy as a treat. Bike parts I buy because I need them. I did get carried away buying bikes though-- I have four of them, but like I tell my…

What all of the posters said is correct. Bicycles are considered vehicles and should be in the road. However, you did the right thing calling out on your left. It may be vary from city/municipality, but typically skateboarders aren't allowed on sidewalks either. search on codes/laws governing cycling in your area to know…

You are a remarkable woman, and your beauty really shines through. Thanks for inspiring me.

I meant open to your friends, not the general public. If your diaries are closed to your friends, then what's the point?
-
I cycle 15-20 miles daily. Feel free to add me if your diaries are open, and you net at least 1200 cals.

I think there is some of this going on. Another thought-- food is often the glue that holds people together. There's almost an intimacy about it -- sitting together, sharing food, personal ups and downs, etc., and because you and her have chosen different paths (she the "dieter"/you the "life style" changer) the "glue" is…
