Can your surgeon prescribe you something? Also, it depends on why you can't take pills. If they are just too big to go down well and they aren't time-release, you can just cut them two.

I don't do crunches, either. There are better ways to get a strong core.

The numbers MFP gives are just estimates. You have to go by reality. Maybe it's telling you that you burn more than you do when you exercise, for example. (I mention that one in particular because it's very common.) In my case, MFP (and Daily Plate) both told me I should be losing 2x as fast as I was. But I wasn't. They…

Today is Pi Day! I love Pi(e). In honor of Pi Day, I am thinking about making Apple Pie cake pops. I have some ideas for how to make them seem like you smooshed up an apple pie in them without actually baking an apple pie and that don't involve using a ton of sugar.

Well when I "toned up", I gained 5 pounds. But I could fit into my smallest jeans for the first time in months. So sometimes you have to be prepared to let go of a certain number on the scale in favor of improving your appearance.

And my theory is that it's never as easy to lose weight as in the first 6 months after wls when hunger is almost entirely gone and we can't eat too much at any one time, so you might as well do everything in your power to lose as much as possible during that time period. It's only going to get harder the longer out you are…

I must not travel in the right circles any more as I haven't been offered Girl Scout cookies in years. My kids are older and where I work almost everyone has really young kids and/or adult kids. No kids the right age in the neighborhood either. Which is fine by me. Because here's a dirty little secret: the cookies don't…

I do something similar but the percentages and absolute grams work out differently since I'm on maintenance and eating more. So I try to get 120 g of protein a day, limit carbs to around 100 g and don't care about my fats. (They take care of themselves if I keep my calories in check and make my protein and carb goals.)

Exactly! I can be as pedantic as the next person, but even I don't have a cow over this one. Everyone understands what is meant by "muscle weighs more than fat" so why get so bent out of shape that they don't say "for the same volume". It's implied.

When you first start an exercise routine (or up your intensity), your body retains water. Exercise is not really about weight loss anyway. It can help, but it's really more about health. It's more important to be healthy than to be a certain number on the scale. Plus, what really matters is the volume you take up in space.…

I'm trying to decide on what my goals for March should be. I think I'll work on my financial live this month and not worry about "When will I be able to work out again." I'm keeping up a nice calorie deficit even without exercise and the winter weight is slowing coming off. I should be where I want to be by June and I'm…

The thing about exercise is, most of us come into WLS thinking about exercise "like a fat person". We think about food that way too but the surgery kind of kicks our food habits to the curb and gives us a chance to develop new ones and kind of forces this sometimes -- like giving us the foamies when we eat too much. But it…

Hi! I had my sleeve 3.5 years ago. Sometimes I can't remember what it was like to be newly out from surgery but I keep a blog so if you want to see what sorts of things you might go through, feel free to check it out. Fatty Fights Back

Just lift like a guy and skip the book.

Once you spent more than 60-90 minutes running. Our bodies can exercise for about an hour (90 minutes if you train like that regularly) on just water and (maybe) some electrolytes. But after that, you really need nutrition. And since you can only take in about 200-400 calories an hour without getting GI upset, what people…

Well I heard back... the "offer" at the new place wouldn't even let me pay my mortgage. So I said No. Back to the drawing board.

And yet I lost 100 pounds doing cardio after strength training. Seriously, there is no compelling science to argue doing one before the other. Do what works for you and what you can sustain over the long run.

Plus, if you eat crap, as soon as you start eating again, you just "tox" back up. If you don't eat crap, there's nothing to "detox" from. This doesn't get into whether you actually can flush "toxins" out of your body just by taking laxatives and drinking water, which is debatable. IMO the only reason to fast is for…

I weigh every day but when I was losing I would only "count" Monday. I found having my weekly weigh-in day be on a Monday kept me honest over the weekend. Doing it on Friday wouldn't. But probably the ideal time is mid week. I just didn't think I'd be as consistent with that as with Monday. Wait. There are rules?? :noway:

Today is the last day for this thread. So let's send it out with a bang!

Honestly, I think it doesn't really matter. Especially if you aren't a super-elite athlete trying to win stuff. Just workout as hard as you can, mix things up so you aren't doing the same thing every day, listen to your body, and have fun! Sometimes I think we make everything way too complicated... with all these rules to…

I went on a job interview last week and the word on the street is that they want to make me an offer. Hopefully it will be a good one!

I got down to my lowest weight at about 10.5 months out. I bounced back a few pounds from that and maintained that for a year. Then I decided I wanted more muscles and deliberately gained 5 pounds (of muscle). It was kind of scary to deliberately gain but I looked awesome and my clothes fit better. Then I crashed my bike…

This time of month, I give up. I figure a new thread is coming soon. I just read the last page and hope I don't miss anything too important.

The slower you lose, the less the chance you will invoke the famine response which will sabotage your weight loss and leave you with having gained it all back with friends. I know losing faster is more motivating so it's one of those Catch-22 things. Some things to keep in mind: The numbers on MFP are just estimates. Just…

I have a different issue with breakfast. My body doesn't want food when I first get up. I've gotten in the habit of making a protein shake for breakfast and I drink it as I get ready for work, in the car on the way to work and then finish it off at work, if I haven't in the car. It takes me an hour to 1.5 hours to get…

Yes. Now this thread will come up in the list of "My Topics" when you go to Community.

You do realize that, if you take too much iron, you can get heavy metal poisoning, right? You shouldn't just be randomly adding in supplements based on your symptoms but based on lab work. Get lab work to see if you are anemic (then you'd need iron), if your B12 is low (then extra iron won't do squat), if your vitamin D is…

Ice is for inflammation. Heat is for stiffness. Generally the advice is to do ice when you first injure yourself and then later to alternate but I found with my various calf issues that I never had stiffness, just inflammation and I mostly used ice. I agree with Ruby Red Rose. If you've torn the muscle, resting a few days…
