My auntie has always been Holistic in the head!! She tried for over a year this way with an over active thyroid n looked like a puffer fish!! You couldnt even tell it was her and in the end she gave up n took her meds and they worked so I would do what the doc says based on what happened to her :)

use veggie meat its lower cals, also you can add your reciepe to this and it adds up all the cals carbs sugars ect for ya and works it out how much is in a bowl if say u can get 4 bowls out of a pot!
