Because it is extremely high calorie, high sugar, and high fat for little volume and not a great deal of nutritional value. To be honest I didn't choose the ice cream metaphor, and don't find ice cream to be nearly as unhealthy as, say, a can of coke, but in comparison to a bunch of kale YES ice cream offers less…

No, that is absurd. Ice cream is still an unhealthy FOOD, but if it is part of an OVERALL HEALTHY DIET then it is not at all a problem to have it. I'm not sure how you are not getting that, I am not the first person to explain it.

It is absolutely ludicrous to suggest that some foods are not healthier than others. It would be similarly ludicrous to suggest that someone cannot be HEALTHY and eat UNHEALTHY foods sometimes. However, a person cannot be HEALTHY and eat ONLY EXCLUSIVELY UNHEALTHY foods. (capitals for emphasis, not sass.) Here is my…

I did couch to a March half marathon two years ago. I then did a second one the following March and am doing my third this year! It is absolutely possible. Google "Half Marathon training for beginners." Honestly if you have any level of fitness now you could do the one this year if you really wanted to. But its totally…

I'm 5'8" 165 lbs looking to get between 140-165. I eat mostly paleo and my primary exercise is running (training for my third half marathon) and yoga. I eat 1400 cals plus roughly half of the activity cals from my garmin tracker. feel free to add me!

kale chips. Rip up fresh kale- toss with a little oil of your choosing (I prefer olive oil) salt, pepper, galric powder and a little dried ranch mix. Spread on cookie sheet and bake in the oven. The ranch mix is high sodium but these are low cal, kale is super nutritious, and they taste AMAZING.

I'm not from the UK and not familiar with this woman, but this ONE LINE made me think she is seriously deranged: She said: 'I didn’t cry at my weddings. I didn’t cry giving birth. But gaining weight reduced me to a blubbering wreck.' I'm sorry, not only does she seem like a frigid person based on that statement, but…

Start Weight: 175 Current Weight: 165 ****Goal weight for challenge: 145*** (20lbs to lose!) ULTIMATE goal weight: 140 Other goals: Finish half marathon in March with personal record time Pass my second state bar exam in Feb Beat my bf in our diet bet Continue to abstain from caffeine Cut way back on alcohol consumption

If you make coconut oil "chocolate" that can kill the craving. Coconut oil, unsweetened cocoa powder, and the paleo sweetener of your choice. Freeze pieces of it (I use those reusable rubber muffin sleeve things to freeze pieces.) It packs a serious chocolate punch and has satiating fat, so I find that one of those when I…

YUM I love Indian food, this is a great one to remember. Most simmer sauces are heavy on the cream so I hadn't figured out how to make it paleo yet!
-
Sounds great. What is your suggestion for a paleo barbeque sauce? I love bbq sauce on all kinds of meat but it is so sugary I didn't think there was much of a paleo option.

So I got my first few meals yesterday and so far I really liked the one I had! I got the large sizes so one meal is easily two lunches for me, which make sit fairly cost effective if I do about 4 meals/ week since I was usually buying lunch at least 2 days a week anyways. Thanks for the feedback!

I agree that cutting alcohol can be a really helpful way to cut calories overall. HOWEVER- all it takes is a quick look around a spring break destination to know that there are plenty of healthy-weighted (even very slim) folks out there who drink....a LOT. All I mean to say by that is that it is possible to be a very…

I don't know a way to eliminate sugar, but I've substituted pumpkin into brownie and cookie recipes with great results. It essentially takes the place of the butter, eggs, and oil which really cuts down on calories. The texture will come out more fudgey than fluffy, but its totally doable. Also, use diet soda in cupcake…

thanks for the suggestions! I think making a shredded meat is a great idea because I can use it several different ways. I'm pretty excited about this crock pot!
-
I would give this suggestion a try before you alter your supplements too much, especially if this is a relatively new trend. Add some red meat, avocado, olive oil, and cheese for a week, see if that changes things

OP, I am trying to cut back on sugar a fair amount as well. I won't aim for ZERO sugar, because that is nearly impossible, but I eat too much sugar as is. Cutting dairy and sugar has yielded huge results for me with acne in the past, and in general I've been eating too many sweet treats and processed foods, and limiting…

Yep, that is the general idea. Depending on how much weight you need to lose you may not need to do that steep a deficit. In general, if you eat less that the heart rate monitor says you burned, you should lose weight
-
This is a great suggestion. I'm not a pork person myself but I would use shredded chicken a million ways and it would be a helpful way to get protein. Thanks!

Gotcha. Well it may be worth having them add that on to your next blood test since hormones can certainly change as we get older. But if its truly mental then you'll have to find a way to work on that. If its not effecting your life too badly, I would just say keep healthy munchies on hand that fit within your calorie…

When your doctor tests your blood, do they test your thyroid levels? A strong appetite and fast metabolism are associated with hyperthyroidism. Nothing to be terrified of, many people have slightly under or overactive thyroids but it could be the culprit. My other guess would be your iron levels but it sounds like you have…

I'm in a similar position but on my third half marathon in three years. This time I am dealing with runners knee. It is chronic and isn't going to get any better until I shed some weight and gain some running strength, so I am just running through it. My half is in March and I am using a modified beginners plan. I am…

Based on your height and weight you are not even overweight. So for starters, stop calling yourself names, stop feeling down, and appreciate that you have a healthy body that some people would kill to have. Now, wanting to change your shape or lose a small amount of weight healthily and get in better shape is absolutely…

Okay, OP, I actually totally get what you are saying. People here can be a bit aggressive when the word juice cleanse is tossed around, but I completely understand wanting to stick to a super rigid diet for a little while in order to feel like you're getting back on your feet. Its totally mental, and I get that. I often do…

oohhhh okay interesting I see that now. I will have to see if it seems off after a few runs and then try that out. thanks!

Thank you! Glad to know its not just an issue on my end. Just generally walking around. I'm about to go for a run and I am going to see how accurate the distance is. Thanks!
-
also, whenever anyone gets the chance to read this, my vivo is counting WAY more steps than I am taking....like no way it can be correct. Anyone else have this issue? Its sort of a bummer that there are no instructions....I know everything is on the web these days but still...

So true.
-
No I GET that that is what YOU are talking about, but what I am trying to say is that I think there tends to be MORE "hidden" sugar, and I thought that this article was primarily addressing that particular issue. I completely believe that delicious things combine fat and sugar. No argument there. But For example I just…

A couple things: I'm still unclear on how they are actual harvesting this nutritional data. If it is self reporting, that is kind of unfortunate. Second, 42,000....I get that sample sizes are crazy low so maybe that is sound data but it seems hard to believe it represents the entire population. I also really do want to…
