Your statement is also far to broad, that same person weighing 500lbs could also see FAR more harm and think everything is fine, yet suddenly die on his year long VLCD, as has been recorded happening quite a few times before, mostly due to heart issues/ ventricular arrhythmia. Any nutrient shortage much more easily causes…

Well thats fine for some people, especially if you are talking about the author, me or probably you: a highly muscled male with high relative starting weight. I'm similar in strength to that guy who's page you referenced, so I can say yeah for people like us its not so big of a deal to lose (or gain) at that speed of 15…

You do realize you need to rewind CDs before you return them to Netflix right?

Yes, everybody makes judgments all the time, about every person and every thing. Some are more aware of this, most are less aware, maybe not even realizing the huge variety of judgments we make in seconds on meeting every single person. Some are more able to filter the judgments that come up, most are less able to do this.…

That's your opinion now. In their time, they were definitely not unattractive. You aren't going to typically find old pictures of women in that age group in booty shorts with lots of makeup making duck faces as is popular now... But yeah, most world leaders, male or female are not picked because of their sexy good looks…

Not only does one spend more than half the time "lifting" sitting/standing around or moving to the next station, but even if he has 1/4th time actually on the wall, he's doing 30mins of lifting 180lbs++ (bodyweight), she's doing (guesstimate) 20lb OHP for 1.5mins (probable actual time in motion) here, 80lb pulldowns for…

Well, maybe you should re-consider how you look at this, because its very off. 2hrs of rock climbing 3x a week is far far from a tiny change. Now you are doing 3hrs/week of activity by your report, but unless you are swimming hard for 20 mins and pushing a lot of weight, you are comparing 3hrs of lower intensity exercise…

Yes, the mantra is still wrong, as I've always read people write "no new muscle" on here. (On changing the argument to size, it is vague and un-defined enough for any position to be true so as to be pointless to even try to argue). There are many levels of misconceptions here, and most argue one or another issue on both…

If you lost 17lbs in one month as you said, thats about 4lbs/week, so yes you should eat more calories. No, you should not see more daily calories available by MFP, because this goes down as you lose weight. But, because your deficit is very high due to not eating any calories back on the MFP method (eating some of your…

Exactly :) Plus, nobody can tell with any relevant degree of accuracy which really happened to get you that last strength gain anyways, its pretty pointless to say "well its not muscle". Where the strength came from has no real importance for the vast majority and the arguments about it are discouraging to that same…

This wouldn't happen if people here acknowledged the reverse "rule", which is: Unless you don't belong in one of the above widely circumscribed, ill defined, non-studied and quantified made up categories, you CAN gain muscle on a deficit. In making any "rule", you don't say "Well, 99.99% of the time people can do this, so…
-
Its really a MFP myth, its not something that's even close to a rule, nor widely accepted that you cannot build any muscle on a deficit. However, it is very difficult to do, especially the lower your body fat percent goes, and next to impossible to "prove" how much is a muscle gain and how much is a "re-wiring firing…

Guys get it from their family just like girls, maybe occasionally worse. My family sometimes does this strange thing trying to get me to eat more because I've "lost enough weight" (even though I'm never one to completely reject food or eat just a tiny portion), and then later I'll get comments from the same people about…

This just shows some people view spotters in the wrong way. Spotters shouldn't be expected to actually "catch" the weight, but provide a small amount of force to keep it going if necessary. The only time you can expect your spotters to be able to take the whole weight off you requires three people: one person on each end…

Probably, but I'm sure some posted real numbers, you can't exclude internet bragging. Mine are real, but I don't expect people online to believe everything, you don't know and cant see the other person, and even if you could in my case I've never looked like I could lift as much as I can (especially when I look like an…

Congrats on the 500 club membership!! ;) When I started dead lifting I was the same way: my grip was always way behind my ability to pull. Even with shrugs, its usually my grip that failed first, frustrating. I bought some of the higher poundage grippers (they have them in 150-400lb one handed gripper strength) and a fat…

Well, if you change the title to physically fit, then its impossible without exercise, and exercise is the overwhelming percentage. But there is no percent "rule" in general, no. Intake is almost always the biggest impact on weight, (and almost always underestimated) and weight can be reduced without any exercise, but its…

MANY people reduce or get rid of high blood pressure altogether by reducing weight, adding regular exercise and changing diet. Go see a doctor for an appointment for some guidelines as to how in your particular case, and if that doctor doesn't, go see a better doctor!
-
As long as you are actually doing the exercise 5x per week for at least a half hour, and have it set for 290 calories of exercise included in your goals, there should be no problems whatsoever if you dont log the actual calories and dont change anything. In fact, this would probably be a great way to compensate for the…

Its hard to really help much without seeing your stats and diary, the only data you have available is a 7lb loss left to go? If you are close to your ideal weight, it becomes more and more difficult to lose those last pounds, your margin of error gets smaller and smaller and this may be the biggest issue. I would work on…

From that study, it appears you can only conclude with any relevance, that if you are older (69+/-1year), adding protein to your diet does not seem to help reduce muscle loss if immobilized for 5 days...not a very useful study at all, results are predictable, and immobilization for a relatively short time will cause some…

I think there are several levels of confusion here. The first is, if you are lifting, you should be lifting for strength, health benefits of it and long term calorie burns while not lifting, not with the express target of heart rate at optimal for weight loss. If you target fat burning specifically, then a lower heart rate…

Yup, I'm right around the same weight and height (assuming poster is 6'), well muscled, male and hike up mountains with similar stats, like the above poster probably is too. A female, shorter with higher percent bodyfat would more likely be looking at a two hour daily intense workout for 1,000 cals burnt if you want a…
-
You can do it, but take this from someone who used to average 1,100+ cals/day for months: diet is MORE important than exercise burn for weight loss (and nutrition). I actually lose most consistently when I work out by doing short lifting sessions and walking only. When I add more intense or longer aerobic training to burn…

Doesn't count unless you also carry your towel with you and know what an electric monk should be used for. ;)

Well, maybe you have the terminology wrong and you arent saying what you mean? "math is cheating you"...I'm guessing you mean the math doesnt seem to show the same result as what you calculated. If so, most of the time your numbers are wrong, "Is it possible for you to eat 2000 calories but because of your metabolism, your…

If you are buying, any/all of my choices of food, consider it already done! ;)

I do it occasionally, but I would never leave my deficit at -3500 for the day, so after I've had my pork out session on returning, the next day I would never show a pound loss, but I will be able to eat over 5000-6000 cals those days and still lose weight ;)
-
Its obviously done for safety, I'm not sure why she would feel offended, I'd much rather feel humiliated than have them decide to increase my risk of death and other side effects and do it anyways without concern or telling me. Maybe instead she can take it as a wake up call to the additional risks she carries on a daily…

It adds up to something called loss of energy from breaking down an internal source, otherwise known as weight loss. Too much of a deficit and that weight loss may be from breaking down things that arent fat.
