GJ, smart thing to do, despite popular opinion on this site. Its just an additional chemical we really don't have enough info on how it will affect you yet, with strong hints of negative. If you don't have to, why use it? If you really can't do without the artificially sweetened stuff after trying and it is actually…

Oh yeah I forgot, and get off my lawn you stinky hippies! (and perfumed cowboys)

Whee, lets whine at whiners for whining! Can I whine at the whiners whining at the whiners? What can you do in the gym? Hey, I don't ask for much, just don't stink in my local airspace either by BO or massive bodyspray/cologne or barf (or worse), don't slime the equipment with puddles of greasy sweat, food (or worse) and…

You could also say its much more likely for stay at home wives, retired, rich, people with more time and executive type job people to work out in the morning than in the evening and maybe income is the primary reason (which strongly correlates with reduction in obesity levels in many studies) .... I find this much more…

Sorry to say I'm not sure there is much to say, you really need to work with your doctor on this one and listen to your common sense and her advice, not random internet people's advice. The good news is that just walking alone with calorie restriction can be enough to lose weight and get two of the biggest health…

You hit the nail on the head most probably. Your form is important, but you can hurt yourself with bad form and kettlebells too, and you can do just as low weight with a barbell or dumbbells. If she isn't wanting to do what you want her to, maybe you should get a new trainer. You also can start with machines first. There…

Ha, I was getting ready to tear that stupid article to shreds and also say it did an even poorer job than the ones that it seems to be modeled after until I finished reading the end. Yeah, complete bs, good one.

No you can't dictate what people do and dont wear, but you can have some common sense and courtesy. However, of course you can't "de-scent" yourself of every item with smell either, and even possibly *think* of every single thing which someone may be sensitive to. Common courtesy is the guideline, think of it like sound:…

I only eat about 800-1200 calories in the evening, unless I went on a long hike, then I may eat 2200-3000 calories. I'm losing weight too. So, its more a question of what DON'T I eat in the evening. Just stay within your calorie goals, do SOME kind of exercise and eat whenever you'd like. :)

I'm not too far from your age, and at the new gym I go to for the past few months, most are younger than me, and I haven't seen a single gym-goer in there who is stronger than me on any lift. One trainer is stronger than me in bench and a few lifts, but guess what? He's 40 too :) So no, 40s are definitely not too old, just…

Cutting will hit bench hard. You have to keep lifting on that lift to keep non-long term established gains in chest muscle since its use is so limited in day to day activities, or focus your attention/flex the muscles isometrically to keep them engaged daily constantly. Heavy pull lifts like dead lift, pull downs, power…

Grapefruit will give you fiber too which also helps, and arguably some enzymatic possible help. Grapefruit juice does not have the same benefits, and will make it likely you are increasing calories drinking sweetened juice or more juice than you'd get from a grapefruit. Grapefruit also is not a magic fruit, so fitting it…

Not "funny" or odd at all: honey's 'durability' is due to basic physical lack of enough moisture for microbes to process and actually causes water to be pulled out of them, while twinkie's "never breaking down" partial truth is due to preservatives designed to kill/metabolically interfere with microbes. Maybe this example…

You got me curious mahana, so I actually looked for the source, and found it is exactly the case yet again of "reporters" misinterpreting information and reporting something wrong. What it comes from is not even a study, its a statement on the lack of research on weight loss from a doctor, and that is not a statement he…

Erm, I'm not sure if you think referencing a "10 myths about anything" article on Yahoo is a study, or that "Ms. Cool" has any authority, but no, I have certainly not seen studies showing fast loss is better for keeping weight off, only studies showing that fast loss and extreme dieting tends to cause more rebounds.…

Is this title supposed to be your Indian name?

If they don't allow chalk, try a simple piece of rough "wipe down" paper they have hanging next to the spray bottle in each hand. It worked for me when my grip was tired getting to 460 on the shrug machine -- for some reason they had fat rubber grips there that actually made it harder at high weight, and the paper solved…

It is a not quite accurate example. It impedes your body's function in many ways, your body is always working to overcome this obstacle, its more like "I'm swimming in a current against me, but I can swim as fast as average" Maybe so, but eventually your body gets tired. As for bodybuilders classified as obese: yes all the…
-
The answer is, yes you "can be obese and healthy" qualified by two things: as an obese person you have chosen a "factor" which will negatively impact yourself in almost every way in health maintenance, recovery, and disease resistance and, it depends on your definition of healthy. In the same way, a heavy smoker could be…

I think that article nicely outlines two issues, which are not what she seems to want people to come away with or what she learned herself: 1) Dieting hard for fast loss will not make you happy, and it is not the way to go about losing weight. 2) If you are losing for praise and to get "noticed" or any other reason than…

Taubes is one of the old blind men trying to describe an elephant by what he hears. So he picks scientific articles to support his theory by scientists, who are blind and trying to describe the elephant by feel, one grabs the trunk and thinks its like a snake, the other feels its side and thinks its a wall, a third feels…

I'm going to bet you know that wearing a loose top flashes your cleavage (as you know by what you said up top) and will not lean forwards for photos in a loose top and take pictures, then post them on a public forum because you know you will probably be exposed right? Again, if you do, it doesn't give anyone the right to…

Now lets be fair and continue this example to make it closer to the case the OP is talking about, and the girl on the bottom bends way forwards to take a few other shots, and "accidentally" partially falls out of her top. She decides to join MFP, and when looking for pictures to post of herself, she chooses the ones where…

My personal experience mirrors the research, I notice this increased appetite with swimming, but I also notice it with heavy lifting or extended heavy loaded hiking. Intensity seems to be the key for me, and I find if I do weeks of just walking and shorter lifting sessions I tend to lose more reliably than weeks of more…

You can lift 365 days/year if you don't go for maximums. Circuit training with high reps in the circuit training section works for both cardio and some overall body strength. If you are lifting primarily to gain strength, you should to lower reps, higher weights and space out the work outs however, to give yourself time to…

"Well I heard a study somewhere that says that whatever you said is wrong too"... OK sure... But even if there was such a study, just so you know, cholesterol markers improve with minimal exercise added to any situation, as does blood pressure and HDL/LDL balance. (BTW, the whole cholesterol level guidelines are very…
-
This is as useless as the Supersize me as a "study". Cholesterol is only one measure, and it is shown in many studies it always improves with exercise alone. Completely worthless to say anything about McDonalds food pro or con based on this, the only thing you can show is the obvious: if you have a calorie restricted diet…
-
The above idea is merely an idea set forth to market a type of diet and making up classifications of body types to sell it to people. There is no body shape = x y or z type of exercise or diet, just like there are no polar bears drinking Coca Cola, and no Geckos selling us insurance, but they do make you think of and pay…

Yeah "cleanse" topics are raining everywhere lately, but I think most comments seem to be on the right track about 'cleanses' and why not to do them. However, you should already know to never take anything as serious coming from someone who uses Mr. Hanky (the talking poo) as a profile pic... ;)

Exactly what she said above. And dont think of it as "lying", its normal human nature to mis-estimate, and food companies specialize in making you mis-estimate and think you have a lower calorie option by sneaking and reducing the portion size they are defining as a "serving". Its how they make more money and make you feel…
