  • Here's the best analogy I've heard about body fat: Think of a city that has a lake near it. It rains over that city one day, and then the sun comes out during the "heat of the day." Water is evaporating from everywhere that the sun's rays are hitting, even if we don't see it right away. Meaning, that lake is evaporating at…
  • What about running on your lunch break? I do it occasionally in the winter because with it being cold I don't get as sweaty so I don't have to worry about being sweaty in the office all afternoon. I'm not sure how your work is, but mine is pretty flexible and I can take a 40-45 minute run at my lunch break as long as I get…
  • Mine actually happened this weekend. I've taken to running since the beginning of the year and ran my first half marathon in July. I've kept up with the running 3-4 days/week going 3.5-7 miles per run. I was doing a 6.5 mile run on Saturday at our YMCA and my wife got on the treadmill next to me and has started running…
  • Depends on what you have your activity level set to. If you have it set to "sedentary", add those calories from working out back in.
  • I guess I'm in the minority, I've never had an issue with the armband and prefer it when lifting, running, jumping rope, etc.. I previously had the belt clip but that felt a little too bulky on gym shorts.
  • Use your best guess, but I always go high just in case.
  • A rotate a couple of varieties: MusclePharm Combat Powder - mixes better with just water compared to other proteins and has a creamier texture. I've had chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, chocolate mint, banana, and cookies and cream; not a bad flavor yet. ON Gold Standard - mixes very easily with water, but can be a bit…
  • I agree with all the previous responses that as long as you are hitting your calorie goals, then you will be fine. However, if you are looking for more of a 'natural' bar to consume, then Cliff bars are not the best. LaraBars or Kind bars have fewer processed ingredients and don't have as much sugar.
  • Aldi food stores (if you have them) have always been the lowest price for fruits/veggies. They also have good prices on peanut butter, yogurts, etc. Go with frozen veggies, you can usually get a bag for less than $1 if you get them on sale. Dry beans are a great source of fiber/protein/complex carbs. Instant oatmeal is a…
  • Anything over 5 miles. My "normal" runs are 3-4.5 miles, so anything 5 or more is 'long'.
  • MusclePharm Combat Powder. Incredibly creamy when just using water.
  • Check out this link: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/egg-whites.html? From what I've noticed is that sometimes the food is worth the cost, and I find egg whites to be that. From rough number crunching, I think that egg whites give you one of the best bang's for your buck regarding protein. I don't think you are missing…
  • You could always try lower glycemix fruits if you are concerned about sugar. I eat strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and bananas on a daily basis and rarely go over my sugar.
  • Hard-boiled eggs (skip the yolk if you don't want the fat) - I ate 5 for my morning snack, 90ish calories and 20 grams protein Grilled chicken cut into strips. I dip them in mustard or something else if I want a bit more flavor. If you grill them with some non-sodium flavoring, they are usually good on their own. Protein…
  • Given how variable strength training intensities can be, it's hard to log. The closest way to measure those calories is with a heart rate monitor, but I've heard those are not really accurate for strength training. I log my strength training exercise in a handwritten log to track my progress and keep track that way.
  • I don't think Lean Body touts those shakes as a meal replacement, it's more of a protein shake, which are two different things. A meal replacement should have a good blend of protein, carbs, and quality fats. That being said, protein is slight more dense calorically than carbohydrates, which is why it will help keep you…
  • Optimum Nutrition - Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Cinnamon Graham Cracker Cellucor - Red Velvet Cake Batter (phenomenal) and Peanut Butter Marshmallow
  • Anything that is hot, black, caffeinated, and in my cup works for me. No decaf allowed here.
  • Speak to your doctor if you are that concerned, but ranging from 16.5 - 21% BF for a woman is completely healthy if you look at various BMI calculators, etc. unless you are starting to show signs that women show regarding low BF (menstrual problems, etc.) I wouldn't be concerned about it, but check with your doctor.
  • We go to a home licensed daycare for $30/day since she only goes 3x/week. But the weekly rate for her (under 1) is $120/week.
  • Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. Calories 120 Calories From Fat 10 Fat - 1 g Carb - 3 g (1 g sugar) Protein - 24 g
  • I think the best basic message is to slowly add calories, such as 100-200/day over maintenance. It's the same premise as losing, you don't want to lose or gain to rapidly. You don't necessarily need the powders to add LMM. Just increase the size of your meals by adding in some extra complex carbs and lean proteins. Eat an…
  • Most of the snack's you mention "apes, quaker oats cookies, Special K pastry crisps, Fiber One brownies, apples, Baked Lays/ruffles, Chewy bars, etc." seem to be highly processed and potentially a lot of fast-burning carbs. Why not try nuts? Cashews, peanuts, almonds, etc. will help keep you full longer, they can be easily…
  • I would say that without the height of the 10 month old, there is nothing to judge. What if the 10 month old is taller than your daughter and the weight is proportioned? I have a niece (3.5 years) and nephew (5.5 years) and my niece is one inch taller and 5 lbs heavier than my nephew. She doesn't look heavy, she looks in…
  • This is the best explanation that I think can be offered for this 'problem'. http://www.newbedfordguide.com/understanding-your-bodys-stubborn-belly-fat/2011/06/27
  • I would think most all exercises you can do with dumbbells you can do with resistance bands, maybe with some modification. What brand of resistance bands do you have? I have been looking for some to take with me when I travel for work but haven't been able to get much response from previous posts about it for…
  • I eat almost the exact same basic meals for breakfast and lunch every day. Breakfast - 6 egg whites, one whole egg, one piece of toast with sugar-free jelly Lunch - 1 cup whole grain pasta or brown rice, 4-6 oz lean protein, 1-2 cups vegetables To change it up, I add in different spices such as red pepper flakes, garlic,…
  • I use to drink Muscle Milk until I did some research with Consumer Reports and they showed higher than expected levels of heavy metals (cadmium, etc.) in their products. Since then, I haven't touched it. I switched to Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey instead. I haven't found any red flags on it yet.
