  • First bit of advice, start doing some exercise. Saying you spend all day sat down is obviously your main problem but only you can change that.
  • Cereal is one of the worst for sugar when it comes to breakfast food, although i'm surprised your muesli has that much in. What is your portion size? I concur with everyone else on the natural sugar front, but I don't agree that you shouldn't worry about it too much. Sugar is a huge contributer to obesity and if you're…
  • ^^^ Exactly this! And also, if your job is really getting you down that much that you're turning to food for comfort you should consider a career change. I've let horrible jobs get me down in the past but every time I'd spent more than a week feeling miserable I just decided to look for something else. We have to spend a…
  • I just think they're pointless. I'd rather get a sachet of instant miso soup, better for you, only 50 calories and if you mix it up at home you can add chicken or shellfish to it and warm them up in the microwave at work. much better for you, more filling and has the brilliance of seaweed added!
  • *drools* and they are so good. Doesn't help though that the leading brand is called Mr Brain's...
  • Also since someone above mentioned burgers with 4 patties - the whole glorification of stuffing our faces on programmes like Man vs Food arent helping either. Kids grow up seeing this guy get treated like a hero for eating something that would give most healthy people a heart attack and you wonder why they want to shove…
  • Actually you're wrong, the BCG vaccine protects against TB and we have a routine programme of delivering this to children in the UK. I was fully vaccinated as a child, I had no history of taking antibiotics in my childhood, I am not morbidly obese and there is nothing wrong with my thyroid. You're spouting drivel mate, and…
  • Half the problem is people want everything right now - and that didn't always used to be possible. You had SEASONAL vegetables - and you could only get them when they're in season. Except now you just get them imported from some other country where they are in season - but then they're covered in preservatives so they can…
  • First I can't believe your endocrinologist doesn't know the ideal dosage for you. My advice there would be to change doctors!! I'm on 1500mg daily (not the XR version though). I've lost 11lbs in about a year, but before that was unable to lose weight at all. I have upped my exercise and watched my calorie and carb intake…
  • I have a phobia of being sick. Like literally, every time I throw up I then faint! Been to the hospital before with concussion where i've fainted and smacked my head on the toilet. I also can't see anyone else throw up, hear it, smell it or I'll want to be sick and then I'll pass out!
  • How often do you get to go to Vegas?! Have some fun and don't worry about it! My fitness tip however would be to take advantage of all those huge hotels and go running up and down the stairs!
  • Another Bristolian here!
  • To the OP, my advice would be that if you found Metformin worked so well for you before, cut back on whatever you have to in order to afford it again. I take 1500mg daily and before that I wasn't able to lose any weight. Not to say I'm losing it incredibly fast now, but I'm down 11lbs since June last year. And that's a lot…
  • I'm from Bristol so feel free to add me too!
  • It makes me sad that you guys have to pay for the pill. Here in the UK it's completely free, all different brands. Although someone should keep pointing that out to the huge amounts of teenage mums we end up with... *rolls eyes*
  • I'd just like to point out that "because something hurts its making it worse" is completely not true. Pain doesn't always equal damage! I've had a very bad lower back for going on three years now and I spent ages thinking I couldn't do any strenuous exercise or lifting because it would hurt which had to mean I was doing…
  • If you have a colleague who's trying to "share the guilt" as you put it then still say no, and act as a role model to them. This person is obviously trying to lose weight/be healthy themselves. Don't let them drag you down and at the same time show them that it's not hard to say no to treats!
  • bumping this for later, some of these recipe ideas sound amazing!
  • I've been on it for six months and haven't experienced any hair loss from my head! I never really suffered from hair problems elsewhere so can't comment on whether it helps this, but it definitely hasn't thinned me out on top! Everyone is different though, and you could react to it differently than other sufferers. I will…
  • I've worked in admin for six years and am now sick of it, so am studying in my spare time for my HR qualification. Definitely worth it, a career with much more progression and more options.
  • Surely British = fish and chips?! Or sausage and mash?
  • HAHA! I was just thinking to myself, "I'm not an American and I would rip your head off for a Twinkie!"
  • Damn straight, I turn to food because FOOD TASTES GOOD!! I'm not my ideal weight, but I'm not depressed about it. I just get on with sorting it out and losing some weight. Food is not a crutch for me, it's something I enjoy. I enjoy alcohol but it doesn't make me an alcoholic. I enjoy shopping but I'm not massively in…
  • I try and hit around the 100g a day mark, but make sure that it's all low GI options

  • I watch my sugar because of PCOS and just simply had to give up all types of cereal as there's just too much! I swapped for peanut butter on wholemeal toast instead, and from tomorrow I'll just be having a protein shake instead.
  • I've been on Metformin for 5 months and its the only thing I've noticed help me kick off my weight loss too. I also try and follow a low GI diet as much as possible and exercise as often as I can. Without the Metformin however I was doing all these things before and noticing no changes. I'd stopped putting on weight but I…
  • Thanks for all the advice everyone. I've ordered myself some protein shakes to get starting with, and I love the snacking on boiled eggs idea. I love boiled eggs!!
  • Thanks! I'm starting to think the whole salad for lunch with a protein shake thing would be a good idea. i've often made a salad for my lunch but found myself getting hungry again around 4pm and then eating too much for dinner. Breakfast is hard too as I used to hate eating anything at all in the morning, and although I…
  • How often do you go out like this? Because if it's not very often I don't see why you have to abstain from drinking if you think it will spoil your fun. We do only get to live once! When I know I have a night like this coming up I make sure I do more exercise in the days leading up to it, drink more water and try to have a…
