  • Okay, before we all go trashing OP can we at least recognize she said she needs to take a step back? That's progress. I agree her perception is skewed, but at least she's not pulling the "omg you guys are mean I came here for support" card. She's taking advice into consideration. OP, by now you know your man is not obese…
  • If you lose weight faster without exercise it's because you are losing fat AND muscle. When you exercise, you are ideally hanging onto your muscle (and possibly gaining some). In the long run, exercise is much better. The retained muscle will help you burn fat faster and you will look healthier. Keep exercising, and good…
  • Eat more protein, fruits and veggies. Don't quick add calories because it will not reflect in your macros. Eat back some of your exercise calories, but not all, since machines aren't always accurate. I tend to eat back 1/2 of mine when I can. Also with this only being Week 2 of your journey, be sure to recognize that it…
  • Thank you everyone for your answers! I like this set up a lot. However, I kind of want to do squats every day... lol. Would it be okay to add squats in every single day I lift, or is that too much?
  • Yes, it can certainly slow down weight loss (a lot) if you aren't eating enough. A friend of mine wasn't losing weight- I took a look at her diary, and she was netting under 1,000 calories consistently. I encouraged her to eat more. She did, and BAM. 1.6 lb weight loss this week. I think it's going to be extremely hard to…
  • You didn't gain 6 pounds of actual fat by upping your calories for two days, first of all. :flowerforyou: But yeah, I agree with MzManiak. Diary needs to be open.
  • Listen to her. Good advice.
  • I haven't read all the replies so sorry if I'm repeating. Just because it's a "free" food in your program doesn't mean you have to gorge yourself on it. Listen to your body. You're feeling heavy and bloated and "blah" overall? Eat less of it. Problem solved. PS- No matter what, I still thinking focusing on Calories In vs.…
  • That is quite concerning. Even if you somehow manage to continue losing at that pace, I'd be willing to bet it'll come back as rebound weight once you start fueling your body properly. I hope you take the advice given to you into consideration and either start working out less, or eating more. Best of luck to you.
  • I want some of those homemade poptart/dumpling things you made instead.
  • What? Adhering to a diet that fits within your macros (which will generally then fall into place re: calorie intake) = being chronically overweight? No. I'll say it again: The people I see who support IIFYM are doing wonderful with their weight loss and fitness goals. The majority of those people are ripped.
  • You realize our tickers are set up in a similar fashion, right? Meaning we BOTH set it up to show how many pounds we've lost so far, on the way to our goal. The only difference is the bottom of my ticker shows weight, whereas yours displays pounds lost. ETA: You ARE seeing the 56lbs on the bottom right hand corner of your…
  • The current goal you have set up is to lose 56lbs- which is why it's at the end of your ticker. In other words, the number at the end of the ticker is the *current* goal you've set. That may not be your ending goal (ie; you may want to lose MORE than 56lbs) but that's not what's showing up currently. Additionally, it will…
  • This is your ticker: Clearly states 10lbs lost with a goal of 56. Good grief. ETA: If you want accurate advice when you post these types of threads, providing detailed information is necessary, so it's actually a *good* thing that your ticker shows you have ~46lbs to go (it would actually be helpful to know your actual…
  • I'll definitely check that out, thank you! :)
  • Seriously though, most people I see speaking highly of IIFYM are the ones who are in fantastic shape.
  • Thanks everyone. I think this is what I'll be trying out tonight: Goblet Squats - 5x5 DB Lunges – Right Leg - 5x5 DB Lunges – Left Leg - 5x5 Leg Press - 5x5 Leg Extension - 5x5 Leg Curl - 5x5 Calf Raise - 5x5
  • I've considered dusting off my IG account to use it for workout related stuff, but I can't imagine I'd take a photo of myself on the gym floor. That seems a bit odd.
  • I was thinking about this earlier today, actually. Here's what I do when I get into that "OMG SHE'S SO FIT" mode: 1) Pull out my progress photos and compare myself to ME. Do I look like that totally shredded chick who has been working out like crazy for years? Nope. But I look a LOT better than I used to. 2) If I must…
  • You look fabulous. I only weigh a few pounds less than you, and I'm just now starting my strength training journey. Totally inspiring- keep up the great work!
  • Well this thread was certainly entertaining. My two cents: - I think learning to moderate "junk" food intake is more realistic long term for *most* people. Some people can kick it forever and be good to go, and that's great. But I do agree that moderation is *generally* the key to success. - I don't have anything against…
  • Glad to see my line of thinking RE: carbs is correct. Now that I'm getting closer to maintenance, I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible about Macros. Thanks all for your replies!
  • In my experience becoming a "morning person" is a process for some people, it certainly didn't happen overnight for me. It took about a month of progressively getting up a little earlier each day before I could wake up "early" without feeling like death. Another thing that helps when I want to work out in the morning is…
  • I eat a portion back. For example, if I burn 300 calories at the gym I'd probably eat 100-200 of those back. Food is fuel. You absolutely need to eat more if you're going to be exercising off a significant amount of calories. I had a friend in real life who I convinced to use MFP. Her calorie goal is 1,200 and after a…
  • Can all of those exercises be done with dumbbells? My gym doesn't have a barbell or kettle bells, unfortunately.
  • I've had Bison/Buffalo, and they weren't bad. I've also had Shark sushi which was delicious. However I don't think I could eat horse meat or dog meat... would just feel weird to me. But more power to those that do. I've heard Gator and Snake is delicious, too. Haven't gotten around to trying those yet though.
  • "You look great! You were definitely getting chubby before." Duh, I know. Couldn't have stopped after "you look great"? :grumble:
