I'm 23, 5ft 10, with about 25lbs I'd like to lose and several "fitness" events (runs, hikes, challenges) over the next year! Would love to have someone of similar stats and age to keep track with :)

I'm a bit of a newbie here, so I don't really have any tips other than the usual "Drink water, reduce junk food, add exercise including weights" I'm afraid! What are your stats - this will help people get a better idea of what you're starting with? Good luck :)

I get obsessed with the number on the scale really quickly, so I try to aim for Non-Scale Victory style goals.. past and current examples: Run for 1/3/5/10/30 minutes or 0.5/1/3/5 miles comfortably Chest press 10/15/25kg Sign up for a Personal Trainer (had 1st session yesterday and loved it - I had been too nervous…

Wowee - well done! Fab results, your little lads must be so proud of their daddy! Just off to the gym for my first ever PT sesh - thanks for the motivation!!

I totally understand this! I eat breakfast at 5.50am and lunch isn't until 12.30 - often only time to grab an apple halfway between. I've been making smoothies the night before with oats, yoghurt, fruit (berries, a banana) and spinach (can't taste it!) and that seems to keep me going until mid morning. Alternatively add PB…

Nuts! I have the same problem some days - will only net around 850/900 calories - Asda do little snack packs of nuts (e.g the one I had tonight is full of almonds) and they're about 300 calories a pack. You could try switching to semi-skimmed milk if you usually have skimmed, little things like that? Good luck! :)

If you can get hold of some Stevia, it's a raw natural ingredient (some would say therefore even better for you than splenda) and also practically calorie free like Splenda. Sounds so yummy! I also like this recipe which uses oats and yoghurt for about 98 calories a muffin:…

187lbs (13 Stone 5lbs), aiming for 11 stone 7lbs. Size 14/16 aiming for a solid 12. 5 ft 10!

Try baking your own lower calorie/fat versions? I LOVE cake and ended up making some "healthy" muffins to help curb the cravings: Recipe Here: http://dashingdish.com/recipe/strawberry-shortcake-muffins/ There are about 100 calories a cake, made with oats, yoghurt and fruit. I used caster sugar in mine as didn't have any…

I read this recently : Eating badly for a morning, day or even week and deciding 'well, that's it, I may as well just give up and eat rubbish for good now!" is like dropping your phone, chipping the case and deciding "well, that's it, I may as well smash my phone to pieces and throw it in a pond!" And it's so true - You…

2.5lbs... Not a whole lot but it's 2.5lbs in the right direction. I have also lost the "I NEED to eat rubbish, I need the 'energy' " mentality and I've gained a lot of confidence and real energy already. I've joined a gym, started going 6 times a week, signed up with a Personal Trainer; Cut out the chocolate/crisps/endless…

Great post, thanks OP! I actually posted about this earlier in the week as was confused as to whether or not I should be eating the exercise calories back or not - get it now, thanks :D

A "Non Scales Victory" :)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I think there is definitely some logic in only buying one decent one right off the mark, rather than buying twice! Will be researching which is the best Polar HRM for me (have had a few people outside of MFP suggest Polar too!) and hopefully will get one this week! Thanks!! :)
-
Thanks - the Polar ones look a little pricey, but they have rave reviews online, hmm! Early birthday present to myself I think! Any other suggestions from MFPals?
-
Thanks for your reply :) That does make sense - will aim for net calories to be 1500-1700 a day, thank you :)

Sorry if my post was confusing. Basically, using F2F I was given the "lightly active" BMR of 2185... I understand that to mean that I could technically eat 2185 calories a day and stay my current weight, neither gaining nor losing. I chose lightly active as I do not work out every day but my job means I am on my feet for…

Thanks for replying :) How much was that one? x

Thank you for both replying! I actually have a session with a Personal Trainer next week so will ask him how I can incorporate strength training into my workout as I don't have a clue where to begin! So would you recommend eating back the calories I burn off at the gym? E.g - today I have an 'allowance' of 1700 cals, after…

Dried my hair after a shower... don't want the water in my hair weighing me down ;)
