Think about your body as a car. Your calorie goal is the amount of calories your body needs to maintain body function and preform daily activities. I should already have a deficit built in to the goal amount, so you see a weight loss at the end of the week. If you exercise, you need more fuel (food). Otherwise your deficit…

If you are new to running, I've found it important to keep a rest day between runs. I had a really good 5k run on saturday, and felt great the rest of the day. Sunday morning I was pumped to get our there and run again. I was really hoping for the same outcome..same great feeling. But about a mile in, I didn't have any…

I loved the NHS c25k series. Week 7's music really blows, but at that point you're doing solid running, no intervals, so I just used my own music for the time frame. It was winter while I was using the program, so my running was on a treadmill. I found that while I had been running at 5mph for the intervals, I wasn't able…

Anyone running in the Dublin Quarter/Half Marathon in August?

You sugar haters are totally missing out. Chobani Flip Key Lime Pie is mind blowing. Just like the real deal.

You're running too fast. Slow it down and focus on duration.

I always go with weight. I measure the weight of my spoon, tare the scale, scoop my peanut butter and weigh it. I've found cereal weight is notoriously off when compared to measuring cups. It's easy to add on an extra 50 calories by going with measuring cups alone.

I've been STARVING all week. It's also the week before I start my period. I haven't changed my diet or my activity, so I blame it on hormones. Simple as that. I just have to wait it out and try not to go overboard.

Others have listed some good stuff. I'd like to add a good pair of scissors and a pencil (and sharpener) or pens. I went to add shelf liner to my cabinets and didn't think to grab either at the store. You'll acquire things as you go. If you don't have furniture either.. DO NOT skimp on a cheap couch. I did, a big waste of…

I didn't have any real boob loss until I started running. Sad news, but I'm still going to run. I've discovered that I actually can do it, and now I've got a half marathon goal.

You don't have to spend everyday working out. Your schedule seems just fine to me. Just make the most out of whatever time you do spend working out, up the intensity, change up your workout from time to time. I used to work out all the time, but I saw the most difference when I had my eating in line. Focus on your diet…

I've had my tsh shoot up to pre medication levels before.. I attribute it to sweet potatoes. I had recently discovered them and ate one practically EVERY DAY for a month. By the end of that month, I was feeling like complete crap and went in for blood work. It was after doing some research that I learned that certain foods…

I have this problem too. I used to weigh my grapefruit, and log the total grams. Then I realized.. DER, most of that weight is in the peel, and I don't eat that! So i started to weigh it before and after. But whose to know how the information was added into the data base? Are those entries with or without peel?

Logging by the slice is irrelevant. The same 12 inch pizza could be cut into 6, 8, or 10 slices. I always go with a percentage of a whole. If my pizza place doesn't have nutritional information, I choose a big box restaurant that has a similar kind of crust. But even those values could easily be off. If the maker was…

When I got my hrm (Polar FT60, it has a built in fitness test) I wasn't a runner either. About a year after I had mine I decided to give C25k a try and loved it. Now I wish I would have gotten an hrm with built in GPS so I could track my distance and speed outside. I suppose a smart phone you could use its gps with various…

The elliptical and running are two entirely different beasts. I could go forever on an elliptical but could barely run for 2 minutes straight. If you want to be able to run for any distance, you have to train by actually running. Start with a c25k program. And take this to heart when you are just starting out with your…

I would give it more time at the calories you already have set. And how accurately are you logging? Unless you are weighing out your portions you could be over by much more than a 'bit'. A digital food scale could cost $20, and it's definitely worth the invesment. And for what it's worth, 6 pm is not a magic time after…

After running for 30 minutes, with a finishing heart rate of 178, my heart rate will drop almost 30 bmp within two minutes. I don't know what that means in terms of heart health.. but I think I win!

It will adjust to give you less calories. Even if you agree to do this, you can always change your calorie goals manually whenever you want. No worries. I never see that message, because I'm always fiddling with my calorie goal.
-
I agree with you.

Slow down your walking speed. It doesn't make sense to me that you have the same speed for running and walking. Are you just picking your knees up higher? My walking is a 3.5 and running 5 (during the interval weeks) or 4.7 when i did the weeks with solid running. I also second the advice on raising incline a bit if you're…

The firs time I ran 3.1 miles, it took me 42 minutes. A few weeks later and I'm down to 37:11 as my best time. I've found that speed comes as you get more accustomed to the distance. You're doing great, just keep doing what you're doing and enjoy it. Just think back to the beginning when running for 30 seconds might have…

Take this to heart: During your running intervals....if you can slow down in any way, you are running TOO FAST. It is about duration, not speed. Speed will come once you've mastered endurance. Seriously, there is no too slow when you're beginning. On a treadmill, the only way I could run for 30 minutes at a time was to run…

I don't listen to anything when I'm doing weights, but when I run, I listen to audio books. They make me concentrate on something other than my suffering.

YAY FOR YOU!! I felt exactly the same way. I was telling random people in the gym that I had just run 5k with the stupidest grin on my face. lol. I couldn't keep it in. Now I've been running 5k every Saturday morning. I'm hooked. I'm working on 4 miles now. My goal is half marathon next may.

It's definitely possible! I was on the last week of c25k and when I noticed my time was nearly up, I realized my body felt really good, So I thought I'd run a few more minutes, then I looked down and saw I was already really close to 3 miles, why not just finish then? And before I knew it I had run my first 5k on the…

I imagine you're heavier than normal because of all the prolonged bouncing around. I almost prefer it that way, since I'm in the clear that much sooner. Like another poster said, get lots of iron and protein and as much rest as you feel you need.

Those are right in line with the numbers I get depending on average heart rate.
