I use both, I am not a sucker. I am a nurse, and after much research, found out some interesting facts about whey protein. I disagree respectfully, of course. What I mean is I use replacement shakes and eat cleanly with greens, nuts, etc. FASTEST meal out there, throw in a shaker bottle, and away you go.

I just say get to a healthy lifestyle. A lot of rice is genetically modified. {GMO} If you choose to do it, choose organic brown rice. I think it sounds awful, though!

I think you need a little resistance training with weights. Why? To build muscles which will help you burn fat! I say some weight training is definitely needed!! Cardio is great, but remember to mix it up & don't do the same thing over & over again!
